Nice video of the B36, @ 7:05 is that Curtis Lemay ??. Cheers
Just think of the engineering involved. It amazes me. I never did well in algebra. The 1st day I was confused and stuck on the "number" line. I never knew why a letter should substitute a number. Then there are these people who are able to design and build these mammoth aircraft that have a million moving parts and able to get off the ground.
Sounds like HELL to go thru all that, especially in freezing Loring!
2 in the pocket, no more
And the B-52 is still flying today. They said it will be flying till 2050. WOW.

Hello sir. 1982-1990. Grissom AFB, In. 305th ARW "Around the world, around the clock" KC135A,D,E. EC 135, E4B.
I lived near a Sac base growing up. As I got older and could drive, my friends and I would go out and park off hanger road and Mather and watch the 320th and 940th MITO practice alerts. 4 B52G's and 4 KC135's sitting on the alert pad loaded with gas or nukes. Impressive show of force even sitting there on the alert pad. They call her the BUFF, but that kind of beauty transcends time. My mom worked on base as a volunteer for the 450the nav training squadron. My pops was a retired P47D pilot and worked across town at McClellan for AFLC doing C checks on F4's and F105's back from Vietnam. BRING BACK SAC!
I wonder if any of those BUFFs are still in service.
I was a B-52G crewchief in SAC from 1985 to 1992
I was Security Police 76 - 80 Never in SAC I’ll never understand deactivating SAC. Some General had it in for SAC and pulled the plug. USAF lost part of its edge after that. Now we have Global Strike Command. REALLY ? And that awesome SAC shield. Known and feared !
There was even march ( Song ) written for SAC.
The Strategic Command operates just like SAC but now works with the Navy in command of their joint nukes and flying command posts out of Offutt AFB Nebraska.
@@giveitathink6749 They do operate out of Offutt. But they don't operate in a manner even remotely close to the way SAC operated.
We need an organization like SAC, and men like General Curtis Lemay now more than ever
I just found the test range on google earth and search lead here.
SAC Headquarters for a year, 1979-1980, then the SAC missile fields from 1980-1983. I’ve never quite understood how the Air Force worked their nuke security and strategy after SAC’s demise.
Two visits to Lackland in my career. Dorm Chief in 3707th in summer of 1969, and 3743/CC from 83 to 85. Great tour except we had two TIs die under different circumstances. Didn't lose any trainees though.
It seems that ICBMs put an end to the BOMARC.
The man was a hero. God placed him in the right place at the right time.
WOW!!! I have never heard this before. I was only 2 months out of High School then.
I was a SACCS Operator out of the 55th wg/595th SCS
Hi John do you think the choice of the USAF to change the b52 to mostly conventional arms is a good thing. Would having an f-15 or f-16 alongside a b52 offset the dangers of air to air missiles? Do you think the b2 is a superior choice ?
@@M856BushBurner When the Cold War ended in 1991, the Air Force entered into the START II with Russia. That resulted in a limited number of nuclear delivery aircraft allowed under the treaty. The Air Force decided to destroy all of the B-52G models, and designate all the newer B-1 Bombers to a "Conventional" role only. This left the remaining B-52H and B-2 Bombers for the nuclear carrier role.
It’s crazy, the usa put 3 megaton warhead Jupiter missiles right in turkey and then can’t understand why the soviet put missiles in Cuba! Why was it so tough for the USA to pull missiles from turkey? That’s so childish and ignorant and aggressive
How are we able to hear these conversations ?
Kennedy was the first President to have a tape recorder installed in the Oval Office at the White House. Johnson didn't even know it was there for quite some time. Nixon continued to use it and it ended up causing him trouble during the Watergate Scandal. Remember the 18 minutes of erased recordings? 🤔
I can hardly hear Ike. Music is grand but it's a bit loud and he's a bit quiet.
The recording was made from a tape recorder kept in the Oval Office at the White House. Therefore, you can only hear Kennedy's voice clearly. The fact that you can hear Eisenhower's voice at all, is because the tape recorder was close enough to the telephone, to pick up the caller's voice.
Kennedy got owned by Fidel. Humiliation
very good video keep it up
2W2! Love seeing those SRAMs. That was a killer weapon.
I'd love a recording of a real "Skyking" message set to a video of planes doing a scramble takeoff. That would be epic
Awesome content. Great channel. Thanks. 2W2
Fascinating. I totally share your concerns. Since the closure of Rocky Flats in what I feel amounted to an administrative coup, this country has lacked any real mass production capacity for plutonium pits. That's going on 40 years now. I am dubious that the will exists to reestablish pit production and that current safety and environmental regs may make such production impossible unless they are substantially waived, which is a pipe dream. In short, the US nuclear arsenal is increasingly a chimera and grows more so every day. Meanwhile, Russia and China never pretended "history is over" and never stopped producing pits. Thank you for trying to call attention to this matter of critical national importance.
That was one big aircraft!
Tanker Toad here, thanks for the video! Too bad you didn't have a video of moose (real moose not the ones with the Moose call sign) on the runway.
Oswald did NOT kill Kennedy
Arch hangar had a heated floor, which made working in the winter on concrete less fatigued. Good times in FMS 1986-1989, NDI.
Did many of those back in the Cold War days! And had a lot of good laughs sitting BUFF alert!
Nice video of the Bomarc - grew up in North Bay where there was the exact same site located up Hwy 11, RCAF 446 SAM Sqn was disbanded in 1972. Cheers and thanks for sharing
🤡🍸 was there a lottery to figure out who is the lucky motherfucker that got depressed the big red button?🍸🤡
🤡 how do they decide who the lucky guy is that gets to press the big red button?🤡

“Give me a 341” lol things haven’t changed 😂
Excellent. Note at :42 and 1:12, a smaller "shape" is being dropped first...my guess is that it is an instrumentation/telemetry device intended to monitor detonation effects in free space.
Awesome.
They did a helluva great job hiding these Nike/nuclear missile sites. A few years ago I was surprised when I was looking up nuclear missile sites online there were some in CT. one missile site was one town over from where I was born and grew up in CT. less than 5 miles away. The Cromwell site that was actually in Middletown on Mile Rd. It was a different time and easy to keep things under wraps. Nobody had a clue. ha
Awesome presentation! One of my dream jobs was a MX missilieer.
Thanks for sharing this. I never knew Plattsburgh had this capability. Keep up the great presentations of our nation's Cold War history. Cheers
