A native of Davenport, Iowa, tubist Bethany Wiese was appointed to the Blair faculty as associate professor of tuba and euphonium in 2023. She most recently served at Appalachian State University (Boone, North Carolina) and also spent two years as a fellow of the New World Symphony (Miami Beach, Florida). Wiese holds degrees from Northwestern University (D.M.), Yale University (M.M.), and Lawrence University (B.M.).

Henry Eccles (1670-1742) was born in England and became a renowned composer and violinist during the Baroque period. In France, he became a member of the royal court orchestra and a soloist in the Opera Royal. Eccles is known for his contributions to the development of the sonata form, which is a musical structure used in many classical compositions.
