For everyone complaining about the over-acting - sometimes it actually works for this movie, especially for the second half during the titular riot. Yes it is cringy but it’s very clear that the creators of this film put their souls into it

Stupid movie! First of all, Stravinsky never shouted at his musicians. There is a lot of historical evidence that all the musicians were surprisingly cooperative during the rehearsals and even quite enthusiastic about the score. Secondly, the riot during the premiere couldn't have started from the very first few notes of the performance. Even if there had been some people in the audience who had come to the premiere deliberately to stage a riot, they would have done it at least ten minutes into the concert; otherwise, it would have been too obvious that they had planned the riot beforehand.

Perhaps Nijinsky was right about the concept being his idea after all. We see him dancing himself to death throughout the film, poor man.

How come no one else is discussing the whole thing with Diagelevs abuse of power over Najinsky? It portrays such an icky truth and the emotional mess it creates (Najinskys temper in this film, and his later mental breakdown)

Some of the bass players have extensions on their instruments, which did not exist in 1913. Perhaps this is not really that important but as a bass player it really struck me as a huge anachronism and destroyed the illusion.

Many years ago, I played Horn in an excellent amateur orchestra. Given adequate rehearsal it was able to produce a concert of very high quality. For its 100th concert, the Rite featured in the 2nd half. There was a party later for the orchestra members and wives etc and one of my colleagues in the Horn section introduced me to his wife. I asked what she thought of the concert - did she enjoy it etc. She said she loved the Rachmaninov in the 1st half but the Rite made her want to scream ! If Stravinsky dreamed this while asleep, i wonder wat he ate for supper before going to bed ?

Funny how a ballet about savage primitive life would reveal who the real savages are. BTW DId you know Stravinsky was alive when Disney made Fantasia, they had to get permission to use The Rite of Spring for their dinosaur segment. It was mixed wether Stravinsky liked it or not.

When i heard this first time in my life in a concert version with 16 years i was completely blown away. After the concert i was in total euphoria and disbilief. I figured that this work is work of pure genius, but i felt that i can berely comprehend its depth. When i saw this film after manymany years i was again blown away by the Nhizinsky coreography which was even more revolutionary. Those steps, dance and ballet positions is complete opposite of everything which was ballet meant to be before that performance. If i was on premiere that day i would be triple schocked - culturally, with music and with dance... Btw i am professional musician and conductor nowdays.

After hearing it, ( first in Disney's " Fantasia" done in animation showing the evolution of life on this planet) then seeing the ballet Nijinsky created, then going over the actual score while listening and following along, and reading about the audience reaction, to see this.... ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT, pulling all the stories together. The perfect end piece to the study of this particular work.
