Hippo Marc 4911 leads Marc #582 north
The hippos are rare to see today, mostly in the shops and not seen out on the main line much anymore
I was out in town, and decided to go shoot some Amtrak, and the afternoon Marc Train 582 appeared, and nice to see Marc #4911 on the point
These were acquired in 2002 by Marc, they are HHP-8 (Bombardier/Alstom)
This is the northbound afternoon commuter that terminates at Perryville, MD and heads back to Washington, DC

Weird how the bells stop ringing once the gates are down. In Colorado (and most places for that matter) they ring until the gates go up.

Self contained unit. Fresh water, black water, HVAC. Unknown what engine is used for power. Two sizeable fuel tanks.

Had an experience like this along the CP mainline in Minnesota a few years ago. I came out of a gas station as a completely normal freight was passing... normal except that it had a caboose. Not a worn, rusted one on its way to be scrapped, either; a cherry-red, freshly-painted, straight-out-of-1955 caboose. I figure it had just been restored (or at least repainted) and was on its way back to some museum or city park.
I knew a guy at a coal mine site in Widen WV that had a caboose on a side track that he slept in was pretty cool
