    Most touching for me was the juxtaposition of the Larghetto of the second symphony -- for me, the core and soul of that symphony -- with views of the Rhine. A remarkable film! Thank you for posting this.

    Around 5:20: “CAN we talk about your MUsic?” What he is doing there is cutting off Rubinstein’s flow of thought. He sounds dismissive. Not nice at all.

    Such a wise human being. Especially when he was talking about how there can be no best in art, as each artist has their own universe. Couldn’t have said it any better.

    All in all. AR was the best common sence, purvayer of received opinion. He didnt ho out on ljmbs, he didnt probe. he didnt startle. As an intpreter he grew in office over the years, eliminating vulgarity and bad taste. He loved his audiences and was deeply loved in return. People were awe-struck by Horowitz; they listened to Schnabel with the grave respect accorded priests and rabbis. Rubenstein was an aristocrat of sorts but also smoked cigars and loved a wide array of women. He was himan, a mere mortal, and he was loved as he exuded love. And of course he played damned well!

    A great pianist and a remarkable personality, a musical genius, great raconteur, but he was also a hardcore Zionist and that’s something that I cannot forgive, a man so brilliant and gifted supporting such a terrible cause. Einstein called these Zionists “criminals” and never supported them. Yehudi Menuhin ditto. But Rubinstein supported Israel even after Begin and the terrorists came to power in Israel.

    What art is doing is revealing to us our own human qualities as people and in doing so is reflecting the one-ness of all of existence because our truth is in itself the whole truth

    Rubinstein revealed one of my angriest music buttons right away, and I’m so glad to know we agree, because I love his artistry! I simply cannot stand it when an ignoramus writes in a comment that his favorite pianist, cellist, whatever, is the BEST OF ALL TIME! I don’t know why this upsets me, except that stupidity is extremely irritating….after all, nobody has heard every pianist who ever played, so that’s the first problem, but it’s really very simple: There is no objective measure which can be applied to artists or art! Our opinions are purely subjective, and therefore worthless! If you love an artist’s work, let that be enough!

  • @germanchris4440
    @germanchris4440 2 роки тому

    By human standards, this man was a noble soul, such as there seems to be none left in our completely perverted times ... He explains that one cannot judge music that one does not understand. This is the difference with Rachmaninoff, who did not care about the categorizations with which Grieg's piano concerto was dismissed, nor did he submit to the dead thinking (and faith) of progress. Rachmaninoff declared that music is, among other things, that which goes from heart to heart! - It is not above all about the "understanding" of music, but about whether it goes to the heart or not. Mere noises are not music, no matter if one understands them or not. If you can't do anything with it before you understand it, then you'd better avoid it, because then it doesn't go to the heart. By no means is it only a matter of "understanding". In this highly interesting interview, Rubdinstein, like most conscious and feeling people, proves to be a lifelong wandering seeker. circling around himself. - The problem is that people do not know exactly what they are looking for or what they are really missing. As long as this is the case, they can also clearly decide for or against it. Let me ask this, because it is what is most important: Did Rubinstein get saved in Jesus Christ by the end of his life? I've heard something like that. Does anyone know about it? The Bible is God's Word, it tells us the truth, answers our questions fundamentally, and ends our searching when we accept the truth. The core is the saving gospel! Our whole problem in every way is our sin nature. We truly revolve around ourselves because we are separated from God by nature. The Lord Jesus Christ takes away all our sins and reconciles us to God. We are created by God and toward God! He just lets us all know. He provided a righteous salvation for uns that cost Him very much and costs us nohing! The decision for or against it is our own.
