Zx Spectrum Next - Black & White Demo
#zxspectrumnext #retrogaming #zxspectrum
Black and White
patmorita.itch.io/black-and-white-spectrum-next
This is a game for the ZX Spectrum Next.
Synopsis:
The night seemed peaceful until the twin witches, Candel and Alice, started playing with their wands near the treasure of the Kingdom of Kalela, which they were supposed to guard to earn the title of Royal Mages.
Suddenly, the clash of their wands caused the witches to merge and created a powerful magical tornado that scattered the great treasure of diamonds across the Kingdom.
Now, to repay their debt to the King and earn their teacher's forgiveness, thus breaking the spell, they must recover every last diamond using their magic, whether black or white...
Goal
Collect all the diamonds on the screen before time runs out. Use your magic to break blocks of your color and to stunt enemies for a few seconds.
If your magic bar runs out, it will start to blink, and you'll need to recharge it at the magic crystals. But remember, recharging will switch your color.
There are 6 worlds to explore: High Mountains, The Dark Woods, Coconuts Beach, Creepy Castle, The Cavern, and Aztec Pyramid.
Features
Genre: Arcade - Puzzle - Platform
Players: 1
Worlds: 6
Levels: 60

Feeling hyper nostalgic...... for.. er.. 2024?!
The Road Rage game was inspired by Sega's very old "Monaco GP" :)
@@bytemyascii_zx ahh yes..just looked it up. Cheers.
those games in BASIC show great performance, especially Moon Alert. Question. Surely the Next Basic can be compiled and the speed of running game logic increased, better collision detection, more objects per frame ?
@@gurujoe75 i imagine so yes. Most of the basic games shown from kevman 3d are not fully realised games but experimental learning pieces for the community. There for a book hes writing.
Good video mate enjoyed watching that thank you for sharing

How is this a Speccy Nexty Game this looks like an Amstrad CPC Game
@@EnderArloReacts i think it originally was yes. Conversion.
The C64 mini is usually listed around £30 on fleabay. A maxi went for £55 not so long back.
nice little mini machine
What do you guys think of the XBerry Pi? XBerry or the Retro Games Speccy ( November)? Hmmm
Love the xberry. I have one myself, you have to be careful of the micro usb connector though. The retro specy that's coming out is good for people who remember the machine but who are not part of the scene. The more we can get interested the better, and hopefully then over to the next. Gotta be a good thing?
Bungles acid trip... woah... lol
@@ErosMadelung Thats gonna become a thing...hehe
love castle escape! thx for ep9 ! : )
@@andre0000000007 Thank you for watching.
one effin unpredictable spider and tyrian 2 looks arcadey prime.
I suppose games that have both a physical and digital release will probably use the digital price to help recoup the physical costs. But digital only games ideally should be cheaper. I felt releasing both Dougie Do and Webster as free downloads helped give back to the community, and my reward was helping me learn z80 and the intricacies of the machine; everyone wins🙂
@@robertmoran4067 You still deserve something back. Maybe we could do a very limited run. 👍
Personally I think we really should support the developers of Spectrum Next games, even if we might feel the cost for physical copies might be a bit high...Or the system could die. Perhaps digital could make the developers enough without the extra cost of producing physicals. It's a personal thing for me but I always remember the only choice of the original speccy was physical. Having said that the main priority is that developers make money I guess - even if it means digital downloads. Back in the day did everybody actually pay or just pirate speccy games? So perhaps some guilt money there ;-) It's back to bedroom coding (which is cool) but costs for a small run *will* be high. For a software release there is the funding option (for less hobbyist games) at places like Patreon. With the ever move to digital only I love that the speccy next is bucking the trend and offering physical copies to put on our shelves, and with more than just the SD Card. The great art, the tactile element of picking up something physical, with printed instructions, sometimes extra goodies and more - just like the original speccy!
@@stephenelliott7071 Well said. No one's going to be a millionaire out of this game It's just a fun hobby and a great community that's worth keeping as long as we can.
Good show buddy enjoyed watching thanks for making
Where's doing very well thank you very much ,😂 until I saw that new dark intro 😂
@@retrorobbins ? Eh? 😜
Ita a difficult one isnt it. I think everyone deserves something for there efforts. The next community is realativly small. Lets say £5 for the game, £2 for the box, printing isnt cheap as this has to be done in bulk at least 1000 sheets say £2 a sheet and sd card label plus who designed it? Do they need paying? Then theres the SD card £2 each? Then there is shipping £5...£10..? So all adds up. You could say whats the point? But then no software, then the next is dead.
That he ya!! Keep me 😂😂😂
The prices of new games being released for the Next both digital and physical seems pretty high but I guess it’s up to the buyers if they are willing to pay those prices. £20 plus shipping for physical and £6 for digital for an extremely simplistic game like Starman is a bit optimistic.
Мдаа....
hmmm?
for the owners of the original Speccy, it's bizarre. Speccy with gfx qualities of Amiga. Instead of a magnetic disk, floppy or CD it has very very fast flash RAM. It's connected to the internet. Even the old Speccy with flash RAM and an internet connection would have been something incredible. After 1991, when objectively Speccy was already kaput with the big players, I wouldn't have expected that in another 30 years we would be sitting here talking about Speccy /Next/ all the time.
yep...i had moved on to the Amiga after the specy...and then the Pc early 90s....then the Next was announced...now looks what happened lol.
@@whatsnext128 From Speccy rubber 48K with AY/Kempston interface + RESET button, heh I switched directly to Pentium 100@133Mhz. Mates had A500/600, later A1200 with 030/50 turbos etc. Their graphics, audio, demoscene was really amazing. But I never felt sorry for myself. I drove Speccy over and above, went to Speccy competitions as a graphic artist and played some amazing stuff in 1995 - ua-cam.com/video/Z8O8GL3-Ygg/v-deo.html

Magnum clean shot looks very professional but £30 plus shipping is pretty steep especially for people living outside the UK.

@@Choober65 noooooooooo
Fullscreen parallax scrolling with floating HUD, lots of sprites, vivid colors. Nothing less is expected from Next. I just don't understand why Atari ST users are screaming that Atari can do so much more, heh.
@@gurujoe75 some of the advantages of the Next are the hardware sprites and the different screen modes. This allows easy parallax scrolling and the ability to use sprites for almost everything including the HUD. Shame the Spectrum wasn't like this back in the day😉
@@robertmoran4067 You can imagine how much criticism in our country /east europe, post soviet/ went in the direction of Sam Coupe, which was technically a bit better Amstrad CPC. Sam had no HW scrolling, sprites, blitter or DMA. My knock on the Atari ST is based on the fact that its supporters repeatedly write that the 68 000 is a MUCH better CPU and the ST proves things beyond the capabilities of the Next. Heh. The Next could of course be significantly better /we're talking mainly about games/ than even the Amiga 1200 but it's already run out of free space on the FPGA.
Thanks for making the video and showcasing the game👍 You almost made it to the end of level 2, but you forgot to use the slowdown time feature☹️ Hopefully next time you'll get further 😊

Thanks for watching, and thank you for designing such a fun game and awesome physical release.
Whats wrong with the video player?
Don't know...is there something wrong?
@whatsnext128 yes it seems to be jerky and slow frame rate can't it use dma?
@@ZXSpectrum128K No idea
@@whatsnext128 The Dragon is built around the Motorola MC6809E processor running at 0.89 MHz. It was an advanced 8-bit CPU design, with limited 16-bit capabilities. It was possible to increase the speed of the computer by using POKE 65495,0 which accelerated the ROM-resident BASIC interpreter, but temporarily disabled proper functioning of the cassette/printer ports
Theres a cpc version that supports the v9990 video chip can we add that using the pizero quad core accelerator board?

I wonder if this could be ported to consoles... Id love to see it on the Genesis or SNES... Both had mouse support... hell, the SNES has a hi-res mode! 😋 just let me dream~
Never say never..
the advantages of modern times, game music as a stream from an SD card, don't worry about the size of the storage like in the days of speccy or amiga.
