The Scripps Masters of Advanced Studies in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (MAS MBC) is a one-year masters program equipping leaders in marine conservation, science communication and public policy. Through this channel, we're looking to showcase the dynamic working underway in the MAS MBC program and engage professionals looking to launch or expand their career in marine conservation.

Very important video! Thank you
I was vice President of The American Kelp Company in S.D. Calif in the 90,s, Richard Pesta was the President. We pick up the Sea weed along Imperial Beach an other areas, composted it , made dried fertilizer an liquids as well . Then the county closed our operation out of ignorace on their behalf saying we were contaminating the local land areas ??????, SO , WE HAD TO CLOSE., RICHARD PESTA, died, still alive is , Lawrence Bentley an Terrell Kaucher , now in Country of Laos, retired, an x , chief of police, L. A. CA. , A MAJOR meeting was held at Lawrence Bentleys ranch in Fallbrook, with USA , Gov,t reps of Soil Conservation service, , County reps, an other Gov,t dept. Reps, Concerning Seaweed business an Ocean Teck. Industries.
I love it.
Perdón me dejé llevar por la nostalgia, TE FELICITO A TI POR ESTE TRANAJO TAN MARAVILLOSO. OJALÁ SE ESTE CONVIRTIENDO EN UN BENEFICIO PARA ELLOS. TE FELICITO. WELL DONE!
I totally agree. In 1982 I was finishing my career, Biology, and I stayed there for a year. So I am so glad to witness how far they"ve come. If , by any chance you read this, and you are in touch with these people, please tell them how much I remember the young people that helped me finishing my career and treated me so kindly : el Gavilán, líder de la cooperativa en ese entonces, el Pulpo y su esposa, el Cristina, don Pablo, su esposa y sus hijos, Carlos y su esposa Lupe , sus 2 preciosas hijitas, el farero, el Chuy Guerrero... I have forgotten all their names. But I WILL NEVER EVER forget their kindness . Nunca olvidaré su determinación de trabajar, de educar a sus hijitos.ME SIENTO MUY FELIZ. If, you happen to go to Isla Natividad please say hello for me.
U are amazing
Interesting I need an invite for me and my kids
Dr. GOFF! Love this. Thank you for leading the way! This is wonderful.
Hi cousin, my grandma used to tell us we were from the sea, she never used the word ocean, she always said the sea. In Barona a couple of tribal elders have been teaching our language to the young ones to keep it alive Pat Curo is one of them, Sam Brown is teaching it in Viejas, Bird Singers have made a great comeback.

Impresionante el trabajo! 💪
Was a great pleasure sailing with you all!
I love this insightful video and will share through DOSI. You girls - young and older - are an inspiration to female marine scientists. How far we have come......and will go.
Dear 'Women of the Deep', Wishing you well in your ocean studies. Please err on the side of caution vs. risk- so later you can publish discoveries you make. Remember Conrad Limbaugh, who brought the aqua lung to Scripps, and was a top diver there- only to die prematurely while diving in blackness (1960). He is still missed. May your efforts all be successful ! With respect, m.
Is this a parody? I am genuinely unsure.
Hahah yes! The Microbes team did a horror-satire of climate deniers/flat-earthers. Definitely a satire!
@@scrippsmasmbc8857 It is brilliant! I loved the video. The small channel size had me unsure if I found gold or an actual lunatic
definitely gold! 😁@@Bufla10
Haven't you heard? Bird is the word!
I understand nothing
What are you doing?!!!
I am absolutely thrilled to see the removal of these dams and the restoration of the river, but there is much more to the story that needs to be told. Streams need protection as well, and beavers must be returned to habitat that will allow them to survive and thrive so that birds, fish, and other wildlife can also return to the lands. I am sooooo happy to see this being done by the tribes that I cannot find the words to describe the joy I feel.
This was great
such a stunning video & a wonderful way to honor the collection as well as Ms. Charlotte's work👏
Excellent example cross-disciplinary research integrating local ecological knowledge and resource use with biological disciplines.
Thank you MBC students for making this. Well done :) ( From Lorenzo, Jane's son )
Really love this idea, thanks so much for working on this training project, Kayla!
What a wonderful video highlighting Jane and all the amazing work she did for UCSD / SIO and countless young minds. I was one of the first UCSD Environmental Systems (ESYS) classes in 2003 and she was at the helm of the brand new program and steered us all into our new environmental careers. Unfortunately Jane passed away in early July 2022. I'm glad this video will live on forever so that all can see her amazing legacy in video form. Jane was always smiling and kind to all. She will be with all of us forever in our hearts.
Amazing Thomas👏🏻
