    Have you ever used a sateen binding?

    • @CharlottesQuiltingtutorials
      @CharlottesQuiltingtutorials 8 днів тому

      I used some of that years ago on a little cheater baby quilt. i wasn’t a fan of it, it is a slippery fabric, and harder to work with. But, as I always say, It’s your quilt do it the way you would like. The only way you will know if you like it, is if you try it for yourself. I do prefer to cut my own and sew it together, for one, because I can get a better color match for the quilt that I am doing at the time. For another, I can use what ever fabric that I like, which is usually a soft flannel or just a cotton that matches my quilt.

    Love your quilting❤ what kind and brand of batting do you find the best to hand quilt

    • @CharlottesQuiltingtutorials
      @CharlottesQuiltingtutorials День тому

      Well I use a poly fil batting, usually the extra loft, i feel that it makes the quilts puffier looking, which is what I like. I have used the cotton batting, but I don’t care for it as much because I feel it doesn’t give the quilts as much of that nice puffy look that i am looking for. But as I say that is just my opinion. Everyone likes what they like. So I always say use what You like, not what others tell you that they like. Because it is your quilt, make it how you like it.

    Your stitches are beautiful! What batting are you using?

    • @CharlottesQuiltingtutorials
      @CharlottesQuiltingtutorials Місяць тому

      i’m using a poly-fill extra loft batting. 100% polyester. and it isn’t supposed to shift. so it also helps prevent the puckers.

      What is the design drawn with?

    • @CharlottesQuiltingtutorials
      @CharlottesQuiltingtutorials Місяць тому

      @@danabailey6174 i have a stencil that the design is on, made of a plastic material and i drew it on the fabric with a fabric pencil. Sometimes the fabric pencil will rub off to easily so then i might use a regular pencil and it will wash out if i get it too dark. It’s whatever you prefer to work with.

    • @CharlottesQuiltingtutorials
      @CharlottesQuiltingtutorials Місяць тому

      Thank you! I usually use a polyfill batting, which is what i am using in this quilt. But sometimes i use the all cotton batting. That is also each quilter’s preference.

    I totally agree about hand quilting making the cool puffiness! But I cannot get my finger with a thimble to hold the needle like you. So I do it my way, which is super duper slow!

  • @carolg.6838
    @carolg.6838 Місяць тому

    Thank you for this tutorial. Your hand work is very even and beautiful. My machine quilting is mostly stitch in the ditch and I run into puckers at times. I will go back and see about using the hoop. It doesn't seem like you would get puckers as you wouldn't have the feed dogs, machine tension and machine throat size as possible issues. I did some hand ties recently on somewhat thick 80/20 batting. I had to do many over as they didn't go through to the backing. I bet you have a favorite batting for hand quilting. I will subscribe and watch your earlier videos.

    • @CharlottesQuiltingtutorials
      @CharlottesQuiltingtutorials Місяць тому

      well you could get puckers if you don’t make sure the 3 layers are nice and flat and even when you pin them together, and also pin the quilt enough so that it doesn’t move , but for the most part i don’t usually have problems with puckers.
