Dance Fever is an American musical variety series that aired weekly in syndication from January 1979 to September 1987. The series was created and produced by Merv Griffin and written by Tony Garofalo.
Deney Terrio hosted the series until September 1985, where he was replaced by Adrian Zmed. The show's announcer for the first two years was Freeman King until September 1980 where he was replaced by Charlie O'Donnell.
During Terrio's tenure as host, the show's theme was performed by a musical team called Triple "S" Connection.
Each week, four dancing couples competed for a weekly cash prize of $1,000; Each couple performed their dance routine for a total of two minutes and the celebrity judges scored them anywhere between 70 and 100 points. The couple with the highest total score were the winners and advanced into the next round of competition.

The Best Ever. Really enjoyed Dance Fever one of it's kind. Forever Disco. Disco rules now and forever. 💜🏆
It's Atlantic Starr
Just spoke with Mr. Pool over the phone - he placed an over-the-phone order with the company I work for and I had the pleasure of speaking with him. He referenced this video on UA-cam to check him out during his skating days, and says he still rollerskates to this day! Mr. Pool, Thank you for making my week: it was a pleasure chatting with you, Sir. Class act.
Thank You @Ivan-b2v7s. It was my pleasure also. If I need anything else from your company, I will notify you. Thanks once again.
My favorite are the can can girls
Adrian Zmed??!!! He'd take over as host about two years later!
The ONLY couple that danced Real Classy Disco with elegance from Virginia and they were given an 85? from that Rip Clown..?? They should've taken 1st price... The rest just danced good enough for a circus act... And they other clowns won "because they were a happy couple"... What a Ridiculous panel of morons...
Didn't like the floor that last season.
My parents back in the day had some connections on the distributor of the show. Back in later 1978, the show already cleared over 75% of the U.S. markets. 20th Century Fox TV had the distribution rights back then until 1987. I was told that Sony took over the rights several years later. It's sad the old taped episodes had either been destroyed or erased completely. There was a set of those episodes in the basement of a TV station in New York City back in the 90's. Unfortunately, they were scrubbed and damaged. ☹️ Thanks to UA-cam! We were able to see those classic episodes.
Deney T was the best of the pack.
It's better than the original Dancing with the Stars!!!!
That’s my Dad at the end! I very much appreciate you posting this video, what a wonderful thing it is for me to see this.
Beautiful people and great music!
7:48 music name?
Merv Griffin watching: Oooooooohhhhhh, yesss, niceeee moves! Yeahhhhhhhh!
Bobby Van died a year after this ..... a brain tumor. RIP
Who is here from the Pop Culture Preservation Society?
Deney with the Power fist rules. Loved this show.
0:47 *HE SAID IT!!!*
It took 36 years to find this video and the first one thanks for the memories to show my family & kids it was a once in a life time experience Jerry Jones & Dewayne Sutton from Mobile Alabama we were the guys in all the Gold outfit.I still say we were better than our competitions and we won and was Robbed for the winning if this Show... somebody brought it to my attention it was a tie score.i never paid it any attention back then untill now that I keep looking back at this!!!!
You were robbed. Clearly the best couple.
Here for the MJ Girls…. The audience looks dumbfounded 😅
Wow ! These dancers were lit !!!
Well I preferred couple number 2 but then again I'm not a celebrity....
I feel kind of bad for Benji.
Deney nailed that opening Pop Music ! All the celebrity judges could dance too even Benji...
Those days were such fun before AIDS. We had little warning of what was just around the corner with the new decade.
The host was paid 3k a show. He said that he should have been paid 10k-15k each show. He used coke in the 80s since everyone was. I wasnt. hmm. He is straight- but was hit on by the management, Harrassed-
I forgot to mention this in my comments, but by the time this episode of Dance Fever aired, the show itself (at the time) was on CBS Affiliate WDVM (now WUSA, the call letters since 1986) channel 9 here in DC. It aired at 12:30am on Friday nights after Music Video Connection (Shout Out to that show’s host Candy Shannon). That means if anyone who lived in DC during 1985-1987 (until June 12, 1987)watched Dance Fever had to miss the first 30 minutes of Friday Night Videos, which was on NBC and it’s affiliate WRC-TV (also here in DC)like all NBC affiliates carried the show (Originally 90 minutes since it’s 1983 premiere, FNV was cut down to an hour in 1987, the same year Dance Fever ended)
People, I’m asking you, PLEASE don’t blame Adrian Zmed for killing Dance Fever, because he didn’t. The shows last two years were cool.
Janet looks so much like Rebbie. Most of the Jackson children resemble the mother. A few of the boys looked more like the father e.g. Tito, Jermaine etc.
Wow! This is the best! I was 4 yrs old watching this every weekend. My Mom would make us Jiffy Pop and we would watch together. Times were so much better then. People had fun! Music was great!
Amazing! I loved this show. Wish a time machine would take me back to the '70s and '80s. People were happier then. No one is offended or bitching and complaining.
@Gildedbutterfly1976 I hear you Gildedbutterfly1976. Long live the 70's and 80's!🤗❤📻🙏
No cell phones !
The very last song Bang my drum , is still a jam in 2023 .
