2022 Genesis G70 - Disable Exhaust Valves
A short video tutorial on how to permanently disable exhaust valves on a 2022 Genesis G70 equipped with variable valve exhaust.
Once everything is done you can either wrap the ends of the connectors in electrical tape or you can Google "exhaust valve delete plugs" and you should see a bunch of results for blank plugs to connect in the open ends. A lot of them are listed for specific car models, but from what I've seen they all look identical.

K&N Typhoon Intake on 2010 EVO X Before & After
Переглядів 40 тис.14 років тому
EVO X completely stock, then with only intake installed
Took me 2 hours to get my passenger side plug out. Had to get a friend to help me too and jack the car up on some ramps. It took both of us with our hands uo there to get it out. The clamp on one side of it would not stay unclamped and took two people. That thing did not want to come out. Friggn ridiculous. I was so over it lol. The driver side one came out no problem. Took max 5 minutes to pull it out, install simulator plugs, then ziptie the hanging cord to the side wall
what simulator plugs did you get?

whats the noise at the beginning that almost sounds like a belt winding, my s3 makes it i assume it’s normal, but wondering why i don’t hear it in the second clip. just the exhaust is loud enough to mask it or does the new exhaust cause the noise to stop
Yea mine always made that sound on startup, second clip is just masked by exhaust sound.
Do tips change tht sound to?
No the tips are just for aesthetics, the only thing that changed the exhaust sound was the resonator delete.
u don’t get no check engine light?
Nope, no light 👍🏼
Can you leave the cable unplugged next to the exhaust? Like nothing will happen?
@@carloshewtty4536 I mean you can, I would at the very least wrap the open ends of the plug with electrical tape to prevent water or anything from getting inside in case you want to go back to stock. The only downside is that unplugging them will throw a soft fault but no check engine lights or anything else that you would ever notice without running diagnostics.
I'm having a custom exhaust fabricated. Borla S type mufflers in which one exhaust pipe will go through the muffler, but the valved one will go around it. So when you flip the valve open, you have basically a straight pipe bypassing the muffler giving you a much more aggressive sound. Still in the process of being made, but hoping this gives a good sound while still retaining a quiet tone in eco or comfort
That sounds dope, definitely post a video of the finished project!
Did you end up getting the custom exhaust installed?
Any drone with this set up?
I have the CTS Res delete. I get a little drone when I manually shift and hold a gear at 3000 rpm. I also have my valves open all the time.
saw your vid today and did it on my 2023 g70 immediately... sounds SO much better while I'm cruising.
Any DSG farts after remove?
Nope not from this mod
New York ?
Yes sir
Hi thanks for the video, but when does the valve actually opens when it's connected? Even if i switch to sport mode and go to have a look i can see its still closed
From what I remember it opens while accelerating and/or over a certain RPM but it always remains closed while parked and idling no matter what mode you're in.
Did this to my 2023 GT2 awd stinger. Really great easy to do. Used electrical tape to cover the port and secure the cable. Easy to plug back in if I want to. Love the sound difference. Thanks!
Nice! Yea i went the electrical tape route on my Audi S3, worked great if you don't mind the soft faults.
If I do this without the plugs does it show any lights on dash?
Nope no lights, it's just a soft fault code only visible with diagnostic software.
What tips did you buy? And from where?
They were just some tips that my local exhaust shop had on display, couldn't tell you any more about them sorry man.
Tips aren’t as nice but each to their own
Great video. Will this void the warranty in any way?
I would say not to worry, they would have to directly link this mod to something going wrong with the car in order for the warranty to not cover it. Opening these valves is something the stock car does anyway in sport mode. You can also easily plug them back in before taking it to the dealership for service if you want. That said they could make any dumb excuse they want to get out of being responsible, so it's ultimately up to you.
Can this be done on a 2021 3.3 sport model.
I don't believe it can. I think the 2022 was the first year they added the valved exhaust systems.
Nice car sir what do you do for a living lollll
it’s only like 30,000 lol
I have the same specs with my g70 as yours. I will definitely do this to my car. Did you notice any decline in mpg after?
Nope, nothing noticeable if anything.
Is the right side same as left with 2 pipes
Yes both sides are essentially mirror images of each other.
What path did you go down for those tips? I’ve been wanting to upgrade mine but don’t wanna touch the muffler too much
I went to a local exhaust shop and had them chop off the stock tips and just weld the new ones on while they were removing the resonator. I think the whole job cost about $300-350.
@@gflo412 thanks for getting back to me! And ah that sounds easy enough. I might get some clamp tips and just do it myself and then get them welded later on. What size OD are your tips? I’m wondering if I’ll be able to fit 2x 4” tips in either bumper cutout.
@@fizz2754 I'm not sure honestly, the shop had tips that I liked and they just used them. I would measure but I don't have the Audi anymore, sorry dude. You can probably look at some other aftermarket exhaust and see what size tips are on those for reference.
What are the exact plug covers you used so can order once and they work ?
Couldn't find the exact listing but these are the same ones - www.ebay.com/itm/254703733951?hash=item3b4d868cbf:g:Y6AAAOSwdvlfSqhh
Gonna try this cause was thinking of doing a muffler delete with straight pipe see if i like it cause not to many exhaust set up out their yet cat back and problably wont be for a while
Just wanted to let anyone reading this know that I ordered the exact set that Steve linked and they work great. Ignore the title about it being for mustang. It was a 5 minute job! No issues, no check lights
Very good tip thx
Wait how did you start it ? Remote start with the app? Or can you do it with the key?
You can do it with the key fob as well. Hit the lock button twice then hold the start button down (looks like a circle with an arrow, second button down on the right side)
@@gflo412 Just a heads up I was given the instructions to Lock twice then hold the start button down as well, but you only have to lock once :)
@@johnvari3231 oh nice thanks for the tip, I wonder why they say to lock twice 🤔
@@gflo412 I’ve wondered the same thing. I just wish I could leave the vehicle with it running and lock it from outside.
@@johnvari3231 there's some quirks for sure, I hate that you can't remote start then open the doors or else it shuts off after a bit. I feel like remote start then packing the car with stuff is a common scenario they should have considered..
Is this JUST a res delete, or did you do anything else? (Other than the tips)
The only other mod was permanently opening the active exhaust valves. Otherwise totally stock in terms of performance.
Did you do both resonators?
Just the resonator right before the muffler.
Hey Steve, thanks for uploading. Would you know if the valve helps with droning if the muffler was deleted?
Sorry I wouldn't be able to say for sure as I still have the stock mufflers. The valves are the only modification so far.
@@gflo412 No worries, thanks again Steve
With a muffler delete you will have a great sound but it will drone at certain speeds
Does this trigger check engine light?
Nope, no visible lights or errors in the car at all. The worst that can happen is it throws a soft fault if you were to plug into the diagnostics port but if you get a set of blanking plugs it will simulate the connection and prevent any faults.
Epic, thank you.
Does that affect the engine in the future?
These valves are open in sport and sport+ modes so the only difference should be the 3hp gained in those modes.
Is the car quiet with the valves closed? Or even noticeably louder with them closed vs stock?
Having the valves closed does quiet it down a bit more, but if you know the car you can still tell a difference from stock. The res delete alone has a slightly more aggressive tone while the open valves add some more volume to that tone.
Any drone or anything?
@@pray4war_1ss I wouldn't say drone, it's definitely louder when cruising but it's nothing a passenger would complain about (I have a wife and 1 year old and it's never been an issue). There's a noticable increase in volume when you hit about 3100 RPM otherwise just highway speed in 6th gear is very nice.
@@gflo412 thank you
@@gflo412 So around 3100 rpm there is a droning sound when driving on highways? My S3 Facelift has 7 speed dsg btw, not 6. 😅
Also forgot to mention for those who may be wondering: Car is completely stock in terms of performance and this is a US facelift model. I also have the exhaust valves permanently open (unplugged the power to the valve motors). I know a resonator delete outside the US has some way better sound, which is what I had originally found on UA-cam and didn't realize the fuel mapping was different for the US. No pops and bangs for us in the states 😒
You can have it re-tuned aye ? Prolly not worth the cost tho unless your gonna go full exhaust
What are those exhaust tips?
@@S3brandon I'm not sure of any specific brand or model. The exhaust shop had them and I liked them so they put them on lol sorry dude
About unplugging the exhaust it actually puts the car in a soft limp mode and reduce performance significantly. Plug them back in and delete the codes
Looks like a New York plate😁

Do you have an aftermarket intercooler and what downpipe worked with the K&n
Hey, no custom intercooler installed. This intake kit just comes with a rigid upper intercooler pipe to replace the stock flex pipe.
Hi steve did you get any check engine light issues from installing this kit? Please let me know asap. It looks awesome bro...
Thanks man! No i haven't had a single issue since installing this, never had to touch it again (besides a new air filter).
Thx bro.
The instructions are pretty straight forward, the only thing that got me confused for a minute was reusing one of the stock z brackets. But all in all it was one of the easier bolt ons to install.
Is the install a pain?
I get mine in 2 days for my 2013 gsr,.
I've had it in for a couple years now and I've never had 1 issue with it. As far as the intake temp im not sure, I live in NY so i cant tell u it will be fine in texas lol sorry
hey man, did you have any issues with this intake? have you checked the intake air temperature? i'm worried it would get too hot without an air box since i live in Texas
@Chris K this is a GSR, not quite sure what the rules are for MRs sorry
Is this an MR or GSR? I Currently have a 2010nMR and I want to do this on my MR. Forgive me I am new at this but, I have had people say that adding HP to an MR can lead to problems....Will I be okay putting a CAI like yours on my MR?
Woaaah that sounds awesome!
because of where the maf sensor is it needs to stay recirculated. If he wanted to vent to atmostphere than he would need to have the maf after the BOV.
i dont mean to sound nooby so dont go crazy but... for the Evo X, do you have to recirculate the valve? its attatched to the black piping...that leads to what??..and the other end on the ram intake? vs the older evo 9,8 the bov was off the piping alone, not circulating into anything...some one help me out here im lost lol
@Helixclothing yes
@ImThatSickKid760 I just installed mine last week, from the reviews I've seen the gains are actually around 20-21whp. I've seen some independent dyno testing and they all get gains in that range. There is no tuning needed with this intake set up. It goes on fairly easy and sounds great!
How much HP did u gain from this? And u didn't require a tune up? I'm interested in getting it if I don't go with AMS because I know I'll need a tune up if I get the AMS intake but what about this 1? I know I can buy the intake at autozone that's y I ask
@ufcgsp1234 no this was just the intake nothing else, you can hear the BOV much better with this intake installed. I can here it from the drivers seat with the windows up, not too loud, its just right IMO.
