Hey everyone! I know it's been a long time but here is an update video!! I have been avoided filming it because I was honestly a bit sad and ashamed that I didn't achieve my goal (spoiler). Interesting! Which part of China are your grandparents from? I thought maybe your parents are from Hongkong or Canton, so you want to learn Cantonese. But actually from India... wow By the way, i am a native Cantonese speaker who is learning Hindi, do you have a plan to learn Hindi, too? 😁

Hiya!! My grandparents are both from the Guangdong area! My mum side of the family are Cantonese speakers and my dad are Hakka speakers. So yes you're right! I am mainly learning Cantonese as it is my heritage language :D I would really love to learn Hindi one day!! How is it going for you?

You are so inspiring! 🧡 How was it getting back to the violin after 20 years? I'm also thinking of getting back to it (although I was pretty much just an upper beginner when I quit). I also really love how you spent some time talking about your hobbies, as someone who's also passionate about them! I haven't seen a lot of creators do that.

Hiya!! I am so happy to see you found the video inspiring :D It was equally fun and frustrating getting back to the violin. Frustrating as I had to relearn everything again. However it's honestly been more rewarding and fun practising and learning as an adult!! I hope you get back to the violin too :)

I share your passion for learning many languages but I found out that I can’t make progress without both consistency and intensity. I tried to learn Chinese, Japanese and Spanish at the same time and it wasn’t doable. Especially languages that are hard for us take more than one hour a day to crack the language barrier. Spanish was relatively easy for me after learning German and English up to a high level, but Japanese was difficult even after 2 years of Chinese and being familiar with Chinese characters.

I set a goal for B2 too last year, failed it too because it turned out not to be a top priority, and was not studying intensely either. I feel you on that but I LOVE your reflections you shared! I know many content creators who are studying Russian and German at the same time, more often than other language pairs. Personally I would probably be too overwhelmed with cases with both of those languages at the same time, German cases were, dare I say, almost a piece of cake. Russian on the other hand...NEXT level for me but I am not giving up lol. I love the Russian with Max podcast as well! Keep going and cannot wait to see how you progress!

Just found this channel. Really like this video in that there are yearssss in between when you last talked about your Russian progress. That as well as the fact that we need to keep working on our languages, feels like a much more realistic representation of what hobby/part time language learning is really like. I'm curious to know if there is a way to just stay at A2 level, studying just enough to not lose skills but also too much to move up in levels. All the best with German, Russian, and life in general

Don't learn russian grammar in the beginning. You must focus on vocabulary, you will still be understood. The language is very flexible. The different ends you put on most words are the same. You can talk like Yoda and sound normal in Russia. However, the declination by cases gives each word your function in the sentence, So it ok to put them in any order. But without the declination it may be hard to understand, but yeah, for a beginner you don't need to worry about that. People will eventuality understand you.
