Jasmine - 茉莉花
One more piece that we recorded with the Hanjiang Normal University music team. Jasmine is a very popular piece that has been played all over the world. It is a more lighthearted melody and a lot of fun to play in a group!!

大五声符 - Five Great Tones - Wudang Daoist Music
Переглядів 127Місяць тому
The Daoist music is inherited from Ming Dynasty royal court music. This is a popular piece that is played often here and has a much more lively atmosphere. A lot of traditional instruments besides dongxiao (which is a little irregular because its volume is not as high): guzheng, pipa (stringed lute), erhu (2 string Chinese violin), dizi (transverse flute), muyu (wood fish - percussion), gu (dru...

5:12 Agreed :) Learning about the instrument itself helps one to understand and embody the essence of it ❤
Cheers Jake :) -It feels different watching your channel again now since having met you in Wudang earlier this year. I'm really glad, brother. 很高兴认识你 ❤
Wonderful ❤
❤❤
good,good
Beautiful setting and sound. You seem to have mastered the xiao, which is far from easy to play.
Mesmerizing. Thank you.
有真仙氣!❤❤❤
Is there any sheet music for this song? That sounds so great.
Just got very interested in this song. But to get the Lower 3. Unless I learn the C key fingering. Please help. Thanks!
and for sharps and flats?
its really hard to find music tabs for dongxiao so these are really helpful, thanks man
Will this help me play a 6 hole Nanyin Dong Xiao? 🙏
Wow amazing, Molihua is one of my favourite songs, I am planning on getting a Erhu from Sound of Mountain music, then I will be doing online lessons with 8 tones music school, My dream is to travel to Wudang Mountain one day, traditional Chinese Culture is beautiful, since I was a kid growing up watching kung fu movies, I felt so connected to traditional Chinese culture
Come brother. Wonderful ❤
man sometime I really miss that place
I really like this song and would like to learn it on my xiāo and also on my gǔqín if possible and then make a recording with both of the instruments. Thank you very much for sharing, Jake!
It can be done! ☺
@ Yes, I think so, too - and thank you so much for subscribing to my channel! 😊
Hi is this a bass flute?
I don't think xiao really specifies bass versions because there is typically only one range of each pitched flute. The is a D key flute though so it is a deeper tonal range, yes.
@wudaomusic Oh splendid Where can I get one like this that you recommend is good quality?
@@christiscatholic I still have one available and I can order more. If you are interested you can join our discord and listen to demonstration videos.
@@christiscatholic www.waysofwudang.com/discord-server
@ yes please Although do you have a website I can order from? I can also browse your existing videos for demos if that’s easier!
Pardon me, how is this new technique different to the normal rearticulation we learned in the beginning? Maybe it is my english, not sure how to play this
super cette adaptation ,bravo
It’s a test in patience indeed 😅
I might have missed this somewhere, but Fa 4 has the same fingering notation as Sol * 5. Is that accurate or is there something else to it?
The fingering position is different. You can see a chart here: www.waysofwudang.com/how-to-read-jian-pu
Dude, I have been looking for something like this for YEARS, went to the chinese comunity no one could help me with someone who could play! I can,t believe your video never came up! My shifu thought me to play but he never mentioned the basic of "that is (f or g) from here now all finger pressed" CHanged my life THANK YOU !
Happy to be of service ☺
Thank you, that was so useful. I’ve also bought your book!
Fantastic English video for learning Jian Pu! Violinist learning Erhu here, it came with a booklet that explained Jian pu in the most confusing way possible. So glad I found you, as I couldn’t make heads or tails of it. Keep up the good work for us non-mandarin speakers!
Awesome! I am so glad that the jian pu explanation helps. It is a really intuitive system once you get the hang of it.
A bit confuzing. For example the first line, do you rearticulate with a higher note between the 1s near eachother as usual, aswell as "hitting"? Well I guess the logical answer is no. Thanks for all the videos anyways:)
This is a striking technique (the 打 notation above) which means to strike a the lower hole of each particular note repetition. It is described in my book (link in description) on page 47. ☺
There are probably some sellers in the area. However, if you are interested in a bamboo xiao I also can ship international. ☺
What a lovely evocation of Chinese culture. It fits the scenery especially well.
Beautiful. Can you please provide music notes for this. Love from India ❤
Thanks for your recommendations.
This one is beautiful 💛
Helpful video, but I feel like for those of use coming to jianpu with a background in Western-style notation, calling each beat a "whole note" is very confusing. I get what you're saying, because it takes up a whole beat, but to me a "whole note" is 4 counts, or a full measure in 4/4. So, to me (and, I would think, most coming from a Western music background), no line should be called a "quarter note," one line underneath an "eighth note," two lines a "sixteenth note," etc.
I have been watching your videos for some time now, my Dong Xiao took almos a month to ship but now I have it. Just gotta say mate your videos have been extremely helpful. Thank you for taking the time to make, edit and upload this videos. I hope you are doing good.
請問您演奏的是哪一首曲子?
Man I don't know what would I do without you, thank you so much!
Hi, Jake! Thank for contributing your time and sharing your knowledge. What type of Xiao do you play at the entering title?
How is this possible that in the second part of the video you're playing such high notes? I'm looking at your fingers possitions and they seem to be placed just like in the first part. Am I missing something?
you just need to blow really hard at this moment. then the notes will be higher
@@elena_236 Hm, can it be possible that there's something wrong with my xiao? Not gonna lie, it was a pretty cheap one 😅 No matter how hard I try, it's not this high
@@ava_qira Dude, I'm 100% sure there's nothing wrong with the instrument. Well... Try to blow just as hard, but direct the air flow a little higher than for normal notes. It should work
Great video and also excellent book. One question my Xiao has a UV style opening. I guess it's a little harder to blow and get sound initially. Is it important that your chin where the Xiao rest needs to seal the opening? It's not clear and can't find anywhere where this is mentioned. Any other advice for this kind of mouthpiece opening? Thanks.
Спасибо за ваши видео. Вашему обучающему каналу на ютубе нет равных для меня. Все наглядно и доступно. Туториалы и тренировки очень удобные. Почему-то многим нравится слушать музыку этой флейты, но мало кто обучается игре на ней.
Hi thk fr the video can u explain the oranamental in jianpu their symbols & hw to play it
Beautifull. I love this music. Touch my heart and soul.
Sir, your hard work is very appreciated! So many of us do not have access to teachers for China's beautiful instruments. Thank you a thousand times! God bless you!
Jake, do you use your tongue when playing xiao or just blow?
I found the answer in the next video. Thank you! :-)
Is it possible if i request you to play a song call with or without you from lost you forever with f key?
好棒的介绍❤

This is an F key xiao 箫, but the chart on the right of the image is for a G xiao. All holes closed on an key of F xiao, according to the chart in your book, is a 6, not a 5. Please correct my understanding if necessary, I am a complete beginner...
No, you are absolutely correct. In the standard tuning that is exactly how you would read it. The great thing about xiao is that the solfege (do-re-mi) scale is movable throughout the range of pitches. Throughout the book I am simply doing 1=G or 1=F depending on which flute I am using. That way the fingering positions do not need to be changed. If I wanted to play a G key song (as in with a G key accompaniment) then I would need to play the lowest note on my F key as a 6. However, this is not necessary for music listed as 1=F
@@WuDaoMusic Thanks for your clear explanations. I am currently working on moving to the middle register higher end. For some reason, I cannot do all covered 5 (standard fingering) middle register or beyond. I have heard that if must direct the flow of air higher and more parallel to the floor to achieve the higher tones, but it doesn't seem to work well for me yet. As an exercise, I try to switch from all covered 5 low, to all covered 5 middle but it is very iffy. I have noticed that if I loosen the back thumb covering just a little bit, the higher tones are more accessible. But I think this may not be correct to do this because so far it sounds like a squeak nothing more. I have a tuner app, and I can hit the lower 5 (a solid C, on my F调洞箫 (although a bit airy) but the middle register is only occasionally achieved. I suppose this is a common issue, so I hope this could be useful to others. Thanks in advance for any tips.
