Benton Park neighborhood St Louis, USA

The Benton Park neighborhood centers around the park, which was located there due to the fact that in the 1800s its many sinkholes prevented construction of residences. Currently it is considered to be a "hot" real estate market.

Is this St Louis neighborhood Haunted???? Halloween 2024
Переглядів 212Місяць тому
St. Louis definitely has places that look creepy. It's because of the way we now view some Victorian architecture. The Lemp Mansion and brewery have been the subjects of paranormal investigation. I don't intend to demean the people who make their homes in the buildings shown here.

Cahokia Mounds -- Southwest Illinois' World Heritage Site
Переглядів 1463 місяці тому
Cahokia Mounds is an archaeological site in southwest Illinois thought to be more than one thousand years old. At its peak it was larger than London in the year 1100 AD. Excavation and study of the burial mounds is ongoing, as is renovation of the museum. Studies suggest that there were mass burials as a result of ritual sacrifice. I went on home tour in Lafayette Park once in cold weather, thought I would freeze LOL
I would think that those homes require large furnaces.
Thank you the people of Lafayette Square for saving this beautiful neighborhood from the modernization wrecking ball so many years ago!!!
Yes, at one point the area was going to be some sort of freight depot and all the houses would have been torn down.
I live right next to Forest Park, but go to Lafayette park often. It is so peaceful and i love the beautiful wraught iron fences and historical feel of the park. Thanks for the great video!
Nice Snowfall walk through the Park. 🫠 Stay Warm 🙂
I lived there for eight years in the 1970,s
Fantastic Tour of The neighborhood 👌
I thought it was a wonderful day---breezy, but not really cold at all. It seems odd that people were not on the streets in the middle of the afternoon.
So beautiful - I really enjoyed your tour & your photography. Loved the tree in the breeze
In a way, it reminds me of Berlin. Those are beautiful historic homes, no wonder it is a "hot" real estate market area. $$$
Looking at Zillow.com, I see that there are many typical homes in this neighborhood valued at less than 400 thousand dollars, which is about the national average.
My first home was at 1431 Dolman. Living in Lafayette Square was amazing. The neighbors were some of the best people I’d met. The Second Empires are amongst the most preserved and beautiful in America.
Yes, and many homes there are relatively affordable.
How my comment is the first for the first time. Nice tour! 🫠
It was a perfect fall day.
Hey MrDEWaters I came across your UA-cam channel and noticed a few issues that could be affecting your growth. Addressing these could significantly increase your views, subscribers, likes, and comments, making your channel more professional. Here are some specific challenges I observed: Low SEO Optimization: Enhancing your video titles and descriptions can improve discoverability. Thumbnails: Eye-catching thumbnails are essential for higher click-through rates. Engagement: Fostering interaction with your audience can boost community growth. Content Structure: Refining the structure of your videos can enhance viewer retention. I’d love to discuss how I can help you overcome these challenges and elevate your channel!
Beautiful video but I would appreciate some context. Is this our equivalent of Williamsburg? I love seeing this appreciation of our past, our cultural heritage. Loved seeing all the artifacts of daily life, the women’s clothes. I am wondering if this is an annual event.
This was a military fort built by the French to establish control over the land they owned in North America during the 1700s. It didn't last very long. The present day buildings are reconstructions, built on the original foundation stones. Each year history buffs hold a re-enactment of the gatherings that frontier fur trappers used to hold during that time. Williamsburg was an actual town inhabited by the British that survived. Another historic site with reconstructed buildings is Saint Mary's City, Maryland which is on the Potomac River south of D.C. Several of my ancestors lived there.
Spooky 👻☠
Some really nice buildings, but sadly I would not walk those streets, especially at night because of crime not paranormal activity.
Painted ladies showing off their beauty.
And grandeur.
Beautiful. Just like st. Louis 😢😮😅😊
Where's Bartholomule? I wonder.
Beautiful
Amazing video
Hey thanks.
Moved to St. Louis in 1992 and loved going to Soulard Market early on Saturday mornings. Back then every stall was occupied and the place was packed with customers. There was a tiny walk in pet store w cats, dogs & other animals. The more unusual items were frozen raccoons with the feet left on and a place that sold quail & duck eggs.
Yes, I remember the pet shop. It sells BBQ now. Sometimes there is a place selling live chickens and ducks.
Look at all the tents! That's what I like about this beach, it's usually a pretty chill place to be on weekends!
Yes, I have been going there for decades and I don't remember tents there in the past.
I missed the German booth.👍
This festival appeared to be much larger than in previous years. It stretched all the way from Grand Blvd. to the central circle. There were many hundreds of booths. It was 92 degrees and I couldn't see them all.
@@MrDEWaters That's fine thanks for sharing.
West County Mall used to be a Drive-in Theater in the early 1960s when 270 was built
I wasn't here in the 60s but I do remember the older version of the mall in the 80s that had one story and tile flooring. It was rebuilt and enlarged in the 90s I think.
I love this neighborhood! The houses at 20, 32, and 2:40 are the best. They all look like they've been in horror movies. The spiked wrought iron fences and gates are perfect. I would so want to live in one of those houses.
Great memories. My mother lived there in the Allen Market Apts. It was hectic during Mardi Gras. We shopped at Soulard and ate at Bogarts one weekend. She's gone 😢 but thanks for the memories. ❤️
I grew up there and a guy my old man new had a stand and I used to sling fruit for him and go one block away to school and then work for him after school
Well Done. So peaceful. 🫠
It was 90 degrees but the puffy clouds look good on video.
Great video and great music! Soulard was one of our favorite hangouts (especially Molly's) when we lived there between 1987 and 2001. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, we'll be back there in a few weeks to visit. Really looking forward to it!
What an amazing place! How did any of this survive urban renewal?
That's right. the City of St. Louis lost two-thirds of its population after World War II when many of the old factories became obsolete and there was massive movement to the suburbs. In general people didn't want to live in the hundred year old houses that had deteriorated---but some were willing to fix them up to their original condition.
Wonderful State Fair Ride Video!!!! F+L, Corey
Another one might be coming soon. I will try to get to go both to Springfield IL and Sedalia MO this year.
Interesting!
St. Louis is a beautiful city thanks for a great video 😊
Thanks for watching!
Yes, thank you.😢😮😅😊
Go the hospital where the exorcist happened 😮
They tore that hospital down I believe it was called Alexian Brothers
There's reality, then there's fiction. Batman isn't real...sorry to bust your bubble, but someone has to do it.
@@garryferrington811 No, it really happened. There were events in St Louis that inspired the Exorcist book and film. Look it up. Whether or not the kid was really possessed by a demon is up for debate.
GIVE US NARRATION, NOT AEROPORT MUSIC !
A unique place. Beautiful day. 😎 Enjoyed the video- Keep up the good work.
The Soulard area, where the Lemp Mansion is located, has many beautiful homes of French architecture. I'm curious where House #2, the one that resembles the Addams Family home, is located...
2322 S. 12th Street (Soulard neighborhood) at the corner of Lami St. www.stlmag.com/history/a-look-at-the-renovation-of-one-of-soulards-most-lavish-and-historically-intact-houses/
That’s not soulard.. it’s Benton park
Metro was built 20 years after my time in St. Louis and the airport had just become The Lambert- St. Louis International Airport. Thanks for a beautiful video, Don.👍👍
Security has been ramped up on the metro lines lately and also there are new trains on order--possibly for next year.
Hi Dan, Thanks for showing the sculptures, the giant eyeball looks like my plastic eye prosthesis.✨✨
I might make another video in this park. There are lots of other things i didn't show.
Look like everyone was having a great time. Stay safe and cool. 🙂
What a beautiful City suburb. Thank you for bringing back memories of our family cars of the 50s. Dad had a 1953 ford Ranch Wagon and a 56 Chevrolet and a 59 Ranch Wagon. My 1st car was a black 1959 Ford Galaxie, if I remember correctly it cost $900 in 1970. Dad bought it as a graduation present for me right before he went To Vietnam. I looked at the Census figures for St Louis and saw that it grew by about 80,000 people since I lived in Missouri. Thankyou for sharing, Don!👍
Also there was a white 1959 Chevrolet station wagon just like one my uncle had.
The core problem is the wine isn't very good. Investors need to stop trying to make Augusta Napa.
I agree. The Hoffman company is mostly interested in real estate development in my opinion.
Great music. These streets and houses remind me of the Garden District in New Orleans.
I have been to New Orleans twice and I think old parts of St. Louis look a lot like it. Much of St. Louis was torn down in the mid-20th century unfortunately.
When is the annual tour of Lafayette Square and it's homes and monuments? It used to be in June?
lafayettesquare.org/event/lafayette-squares-51st-annual-house-garden-tour-auction/
1st Saturday in June: Garden tour/antique fair 1st weekend in Dec: House tours/Christmas Market+tree lighting.
Thanks for playing exciting music for the beautiful community of St.louis soulard, it amazing, I will always love this city and what it’s have to offer ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yes, I think the music is important in these videos.
St. Louis is a beautiful city---and I think it will be better with time.
Wow....used to live in St. Charles. Beautiful town!
I had the impression that there were more different things to see and do since the last time I was there.
That place still looks fantastic. I haven't been to that Market in decades. Awesome Video. 😊
It was a perfect day weather-wise. I'm glad you liked it.
