Imagine if they just made an "Install" button like in Windows...Why does it have to be so convoluted?
While I don't have much information on the exact reason why, Linux is more of a server OS then a more consumer friendly system like Windows. There are better methods to install that not all systems come with like SnapD and Flatpaks, or even AppImages but it varies per distribution. Additionally, Snap has been seen as a problem in terms of privacy and tracking although I'm not sure why. I've never cared to use Snap on my systems especially with Arch where after install of OS and Paru, it's as easy as Paru -S *software package name*.
Great video! I followed this to set mine up. Do you have a vpn set up to be able to manage the proxmox server remotely? The other question I had, what OS are you hosting your mc server on? I'm just using a w11 client on my proxmox server, but yours looks to be through a CLI.
All of my servers I keep at home in a 25U rack. Expensive on power but worth it imo. I do use Tailscale though if I'm away from home. My MC server is hosted in what's called an LXC container (using Debian) in Proxmox. I'm not sure if folks still use these, I find them handy to reduce overhead when I don't need all the features of a full virtual machine.
EXCELLENT!!
Unfortunately, this video does not make it easy to understand what you are doing and how to set up/use VeraCrypt. You may want to slow down the process and explain it better and clearer.
for ME?
How'd you setup your DNS hostname for rancher? I set it to an arbitrary .internal name, but it's not reachable.
You may need to set a DNS record with your internal server if you haven't already, but I have mine set to rancher.dwxe.internal with an A record pointing at Traefik with it's load balancer IPv4 address. Make sure too your client machine is using the internal DNS, I've had mine overwrite itself more then once
Do it cast spells… :3
Is there a way to use the security key for login without a password, but have a password as a fallback if the key is damaged or lost?
I believe "auth sufficient..." should do this. Making it required will require the key but sufficient will ignore the key if it is not plugged in, but also still make it a viable method of authentication. See this for info, under 10.2.1 under Control Flags: docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/red_hat_enterprise_linux/7/html/system-level_authentication_guide/pam_configuration_files#PAM_Configuration_File_Format
Stork link..
Helpful video, thanks. Do you know if the Unlock feature can unlock a Unifi Access Lock Electric (electric strike lock)?
I'm not too sure, I thought UI deprecated those but I'd love to test and get my hands on one

Thank you sm :) I'm new to Linux and this was really helpful for downloading Veracrypt! it seems to work, though in the Terminal after i got to the step at 3:50 (in the video timestamp) and pressed enter on 'veracrypt', another line came up saying "Gtk-CRITICAL gtk_widget_get_scale_factor: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed" which it does every time i do that, and I'm not really sure if i'm supposed to do something about it or if I can just ignore that.. lol but i'm trying to look into it
If I recall correctly it happens. Unless Veracrypt has issues opening/mounting/other regular operations, I wouldn't be too concerned.
@@yeehawitsjake okay thank you sm :)
Looking forward to seeing what you do with this!

It's nice because you can program any NFC device or credential. I used a bus pass (I have a video on doing just this), and it is amazing. I use HomeBridge and exposed to HomeKit so it unlocks both my security door and my inner door at once.
It is, I gave my two other roommates my old hotel keycards I used from work shows lol. Now to train them on the Flipper...

Hm! I thought it was pronounced similar to "techniCIAN", "attenTION". I'm glad I never said it out loud. BTW, you have the same vague filler I used to have. Mine was dealt with by my local Alliance Française prof/principal; he'd threaten hitting me with a rock each time I ended sentences with "et des choses comme ça". The same week I picked that habit it was gone. He was a short, harmless-looking charming older guy. Very charismatic. But he meant business with that stupid boulder. :/ Also, TSIG is where you create a key to send secure dynamic updates.
Good to know, maybe I'll make a follow up on TSIG. As for the pronunciation, I expected some push back lol. Native English speaker, grew up in the states but pronouncing and speaking was always an issue I had. As long as people understand what I'm saying I suppose it's fine...?
Spoopy

Believe it or not, been planning on one. Stay tuned lol

Thanks so much for making this video! It's tutorials like this that have made Linux accessible to me.
Glad to hear, don't be shy to get a VM and mess around, or even a spare machine if you have one. I've broke one too many installs learning it, but it was worth it
@@yeehawitsjake Thanks for the tip! I've gotten a couple nice machines from family upgrading due to Windows 11 and Apple Silicon. Still haven't dared experiment until the OS breaks, maybe I'll give it a try!
Hey, have you taken a look at SAMBA Active Directory Server? I think it's a great alternative if you don't need all the features AD provides. The big plus is that you don't have to pay for all the user CALs. I have it set up with a win 10 vm with the remote management tools. It works very well and is fairly easy to setup.
I was gonna look into that since I do actually need Active Directory, I'll have to see once I'm free and all
@yeehawitsjake it's worth to dig through it!
Protogen photo is based :3
actually its a gIF
What commands did you enter in terminal
Just neofetch, used to give an overview to your system and specs

That’s pretty slow
Yeah, it's because of how it has to connect. I have a machine running HomeAssistant that has to connect to the lock after bluetooth and that's after receiving the connection request over HTTPS. Sometimes it responds quickly, sometimes it likes to take its time. Either way I think it's a fun addition at least.
what card do you use? can you share the link?
Any NFC card should work, including some newer hotel keys. The one I use may be a bit overpowered as its also for smart card login for computers. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00SJV2CNK
where to add windows key? I didn't asked for one?
Windows will usually activate itself if it's been installed before, otherwise you'll need to do so through Settings. I believe it's under System, then Activation
I REFUSE
🔥
If This can work with 3rd party smart locks that would be nice.
It can, I just got it setup on mine. Basically Webhook Alarm Event from UI > Webhook goes to N8N > N8N sends an event to Home Assistant that's linked to my doorlock.
Apparently you can, using webhooks and home assistant.
Imagine using windows smh
The reeecap <3
Wanted to watch, but the audio is too soft. Sorry.
Thank you for the note, I'll see if I can improve it but the Pixel phones don't have a super good mic. Planning on getting one of those DJI clip on mics or something
i agree, the audio would be better with a dedicated microphone! 😉👊

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!
Thanks for sharing this story; I think your concerns & perspective are far more legitimate than LinkedIn's reasoning in this matter. (Their 'Policy' likely a group-think effort including opinions from several inept people and a Sr. decision maker who didn't really belong in that position. This _is_ Microsoft after all. I know their internal culture well.) I'm glad to hear you actually got responses from them! (And especially now, a resolution.👏) ...I had one of my Twitter accts shutdown a couple months ago for absolutely no reason that I can determine. Didn't even get a warning, just a violation notice & shutdown. I've sent 4 appeals. I received an automated email response with my case# on the first two appeal letters. The 2nd two letters didn't even get that. And of course... not a single actual _"response"_ from Twitter at all. Here's to the future of social media! 🥃.
Huzzah! Yeah, I'm not surprised with Twitter. It's probably some AI bullshiet that flagged you and the staff member doesn't care to actually remedy the situation (if there's even a human element behind it). Ive had that problem with Instagram and getting locked out with an old email. Absolutely no support in sight
@@yeehawitsjake Yeah, I too was thinking just about the same! ..Some AI flagged non-sense and none of the flunkies that work there anymore give a care to even read my case file. I had only reached about 320 posts; and about 3 dozen 'real' followers. Just bcuz that doesn't generate enough traffic for them, doesn't mean they can run their bizness like shietheads.
UPDATE: I did create a new ticket with LinkedIn and got in touch with another support agent - huzzah, account was restored! Regardless, I do still believe in what I said in which the support and verification protocol should be easier and be a little more privacy-respecting.
hell yeah, got notified on the way to the gym. Thanks for the goated upload even if it was infuriating for you lmao. I don't personally use LinkedIn but I'm always worried about services like Cashapp and PayPal having these issues when using them for freelancing, along with UA-cams new-ish requirements for new channels to either submit your ID (not happening lol) submitting a video asking to be verified (gets ignored) and "building channel history" that doesn't work so any new accounts I've created don't have access to basic features like pinning comments or having links in descriptions. It really is baffling that these megacorp companies with 5 billion data breaches a year still expect people to be comfortable submitting ID for them to store or do with as they please, you made the right choice ditching the endless hoop jumping hell and just giving up on the account, I've heard nothing but good things from creator/streamer friends that use KoFi so hopefully it works out better for you in the future man, good video 👑
Tyty, for sure. I believe fully in privacy and a balance, maybe this will be a turning point and hopefully gain traction but we shall see. So many peeps give up their privacy these days because they don't push back and I think if we as a society (we live in a society grrr) would push more towards quality, safety, and real security we wouldn't have as many issues.
@@yeehawitsjake totally agree, I hope schools are still teaching some form of "internet etiquette" or like a hey idiot don't dox yourself class so the next generation has a chance to keep whatever privacy their parents haven't already uploaded for them
@@JACKELincorporated As nice as that may be, they've most likely already taken an L by the school district using GSuite or other vendors that may have more info. Especially PowerSchool, not even sure what data they have. I'm not sure what would be best for the younger folks given that they can't even sign a lot of those agreements, not to mention I doubt they'll understand a lot of what they're agreeing to.
I was hoping this would let me encrypt my current volume, not a container volume.
With Veracrypt, you can encrypt the drive but it needs to be blank/formatted first. Existing files could potentially be recovered if you do a quick overwrite and I am sure there are limitations to the Veracrypt system itself to not allow this. I believe Bitlocker is the only file system encryption method that can encrypt data that already exists, but I may be incorrect.
@@yeehawitsjake you can encrypt the entire drive preexisting files not removed no formatting with veracrypt, just select full drive encrypt and it will be fully encrypted until password is used on boot. im sure it says something about files wipes in the setup process but it isn't what you think it is it will keep them it intact. it's some kind of security procedure that is a bit to complicated for me to explain but it works really well.
windows only apparently sorry
LUKS is what you need
What an underrated channel, there's a ton of helpful vids here.
Is it actually true that ad nauseum click the ads in the background? If so, why? I saw someone say it does that.
To my understanding it does. This is why I love AdNauseam as it not only blocks ads, but it's intended to also mess with ad networks. By clicking on all the ads it sees, it tells the networks that you like everything, resulting in them unable to "fingerprint" you for your likes and interests. Probably a bad way to explain it, they do have a report on AdNauseam at ceur-ws.org/Vol-1873/IWPE17_paper_23.pdf
It screws with the advertising dataset and costs the advertisers money on bad clicks
@RT-qd8yl now that's kinda cool actually now that I think about it. Screw the advertising companies!
mate, arent you worried about snakes in that bush/scrub ?
Meh, I didn't get bit or anything but by the time I got home I did fall ill. Worth it
