How to Georeference maps using QGIS
Переглядів 1,3 тис.2 роки тому
Georeferencing maps using QGIS Many times we want to work with maps within a GIS that do not have any spatial reference associated with it but do contain a grid that we can leverage to add the missing georeferenced information, the process is similar to using control points for images based on pattern matching or looking similar locations on a referenced map to "correct" the one we want to use ...

how to get administrator rights and compatibility?
great job! wow, so evenly done!
wow. this is amazing, I am new to pyqgis, this help me a lot. Thanks!
Antonio, thanks so much for the video but i have some questions. A couple questions, what shortcut do you use for the stop editing? And how do you work around the click of the pen on the tablet versus the pen floating in the air but registering movement? I find this very annoying and some additional settings to the stream digitizing option would be very helpful.
How long it last?
Thanks for the great information
Thank you for this extremely helpful video. You are very knowledgeable with the software. May God, the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, bless you.

Hi, where can I download the software?
Unfortunately, no longer provided by ICAO. As it is copyrighted material it is not easy to pass along

I think you can use any brand and no plugin is required as the pen is just replacing the mouse really
Thank you! I'm working with hydrographic basins, and i'm thinking on using this to automate this part. Altrough, we got river buffers(line shapefile) and point shapefile water source buffers, and we merge both buffers, then dissolve. Do you know if i can i put a merge or union algorithm in between the buffer, and then dissolve? Thank you, that really helped.
Should be possible, I guess you buffer first rivers the points collect into a single layer and dissolve as needed. Would be interested to know if you solved it
Great video! :) Sadly Im getting an error when I tried to intersect the exterior ring to the created line. The labels disappeared. My preview says NULL. Do you know how to solve this?
Is everything in the same coordinate system?
Hello, I would like to ask how you were able to uncheck/check multiple layers all at once with just one click in QGIS?
If I remember correctly select all layers and use spacebar?
Hello, I have exported a full data snapshot of the AIXM database, but I cant add a vector layer, there is allways an error when trying to add the .xml file. There's any pre configuration ? Thank you!
Absolutely no pre configuration, you just need to drag n drop into the main canvas. What version of AIXM are you exporting to?
I'm a honduran student. this video helped me. thank you.
Great that it helped out
Thanks for making this video. Its very helpful but for me it has given me half answer as far as my assignment is concerned. I want to have a query for whole work. Like from extending lines to the nearest line on the basis of one or two vertices. then converting those very new polygon shape into polygon. I have also done it manually but need command to do it automatically. Do you have any answer?
its amazing. i am also working on such data. Could you please make a video in how to do the Geoborder encoding using annotation or href?
Thanks for liking the video, are you referring on extracting the border from a GIS file and then pushing it in the corresponding AIXM geoborder tag?

thanks for the comment
thanks for your explanation, actually i'm looking to get the layers ordered like in "layers panel" not alphabetically , can you please give me a tip
Hi, I want to create 3d model of airspace from GPS coordinates with different floor and ceiling altitudes. Can I do that with Qgis? Or only with a flat floor?
It would be better if you did a script or processing modeling to be able to achieve what you want, getting the Z for the ceiling and floor is not the issue but being able to construct the walls of the 3D volumes
@@antoniolocandro could you clarify a bit what you wrote? I'm totally new to this. Where would I use this processing? In Qgis? Maybe there's better software like some CADs to achieve what I want?
docs.qgis.org/3.22/en/docs/user_manual/processing/index.html; don’t think any other software will give you advantages. The minute the floor is not the ground you will need someway to calculate the walls of the 3D volume. When the floor is the ground you can calculate the ceiling and extrude to the floor.
Good afternoon Antonio! I ve been checking your youtube tutorial from to time for guidance. I have a query, Do you have demo for the reverse workflow? Meaning, Generating AIXM 5.1 file from the layer feature? Coz what ive been currently doing is for each feature type, i generateed aixm:members and combined them in notepad++ which is very archaic and time-consuming. It's been on my list for quite sometime, i believe it needs python coding which i have little knowledge of but for purposes of laying groundworks for such approach. It would be nice for us QGIS users belonging to aeronautical information domain to know the possibility of generating such xml on the feature level. Tks in advance
it helped a lot, thx for sharing
Glad it helped! I definitely struggled to use it until I understood the principles on it. I haven’t checked the current official documentation but may I should to see if it can be improved
Thats cool.. How did you create the buttoms? With Virsual Studio? I'm also looking for a Qgis plugin.. :)
If you use streamdeck they have their own app which you can program the hot keys and macros which are then passed to the device. I would like a physical board but it’s considerably more expensive
if you don't mind please take the bg music a few notches down, it's a tad distracting 😊
I will try this on the next video I eventually upload, can't re upload videos unfortunately without loosing the views
thanks for posting could you please zoom in a bit? not easy to watch on small screen, cheers
I will take into consideration is just that the zoom part is more editing time but you are right! I do have a 24 inch monitor so I maybe am missing the fact other people have smaller ones
Its really helpful! but Can you do an example with PyQgis code? I don't get work :(
This is inspiring.
Thanks! Really there are a lot of things that we can start doing little by little and over time improve our skills. Automation specially the boring tasks should be one of the first steps
Great work Antonio! There are so many layers to this problem. You have to work on this problem little by little over time. It will not fit neatly into a project manager's 2 week sprints or multiple sprints unless you have already been working on it for a while. Though the productivity or correctness gains can pay off in future client work.
Little by little improving skills and making things more automated is the goal, I’m my own Project Manager so that helps for sure
Really helpful - thanks
Glad it was useful
I'm following your steps but it fails to select with outline only
What version of QGIS are you using and which OS?
Check your expression "is selected ()" Don't forget for ")"
The expression must be in black, not red colored
Just what I needed, great explanation. Thanks!!!
great that you found this useful!
good video any one knows why the trim and extend often do so incorrectly? just as in the video you showed some instances of errors that where corrected once you changed CRS
Most tools in QGIS only work correctly with a projected coordinate system (PCS), I suspect this is the case with the trim/extend tool.
@@antoniolocandro So I've been using this tool a lot for a while and I can't figure out how to chop off the dangles/overshoots. I do a lot of topological editing and the extend feature is really convenient. To trim I just use the vertex selecting tool and highlight the node of the overshoot and just delete it. I'm also working usually in NAD83 UTM 17N or 18N, so as to the projected system, it hasn't made a difference for me. I have found that snapping becomes a real issue if you have your project in one coordinate system and your data is in another or the wrong one (e.g. the project is in 18N but the geopackage for your lines was set to 17N.) Edit: Messing around a bit, I did get the trim tool to work, but I had to have a line that intersected the other without a node at their intersection. I usually run a smooth on my lines (for maps), then v.clean and fix geometries to take care of the majority of the topological errors. In the snapping tool bar I always keep toplogical editing turned on which will create a node when snapping a line to another. However, QGIS will see a dangle at that intersection until you split the line at that intersection. v.clean or fix geometries will usually either create a node at a dangle or split it, so the trim tool can't work on something like that.
You can replace the CD with Sata SSD
No CD on the laptop, but good to know that is an option maybe for others
It will be better if you will show from basics. Even where to download free qgis, what kind of benefits it has and etc.
There are many videos already here on those topics which you can watch, this is just the specific application of reading AIXM 5.1 but will take into consideration
Thanks Antonio for this useful video, well explained! I use isodistance rings to approximate accessibility times from a service center. Instead of the entire ring, in some cases, it would be more appropriate to represent only a portion / angle of the ring (as a sort of "fan"). Through the geometry generator (or other tool), would you know how it could be done?
Thanks! I think it would be possible but could you provide me an example to see the final expected result. I think in principle you could draw the polygon and intersect the rings, that would give you a snapshot and if you wanted some more dynamic you could do the same using geometry generator options
@@antoniolocandro thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely try! My problem is that my study areas are often mountain and border areas. Accessibility is therefore often naturally constrained only in a few directions. I overlap the isodistance rings with the road isochronous areas, but I don't need the whole isodistance ring (... which crosses the mountains), just the "fan" in the direction of the isochronous towards the valley.
@@danielerinaldi3123 if I understand correctly do you want just the blue line like here ibb.co/GHVxKFL

Awesome!
It would be great if you could share your expression with your video. Great tutorial though!!!
updated the description of the video to include the expression used in the video, good idea!
Agree, well done. The other minor suggestion is to zoom on the expresion box if possible. Is hard to read on small screens.
@@Refreshment01 Zoom in is on the list of things to improve, it just requires extra editing which is more time ;)
