Dephemerember 2024 - Prompt 03 Layered Tag & Retro Film Strip
Prompt 03 Layered Tag & Retro Film Strip - “A Rose, is a Rose, is a Rose”
Ephemera - Stacked & Staggered Accordion Fold Tags (And a freebie)
When I filmed this prompt response, I hadn’t reached 500 subscribers, I was so close, yet so far away. By the time I started editing it, I had finally cracked the elusive 500 mark, which was somehow fortuitous given that it happened in time for this video to be published. You need to watch the video all the way through to find out why.
I’ll be releasing a special video to celebrate reaching my target and to launch a giveaway for one or more or my lucky subscribers. Be sure to keep an eye out for the upcoming video if you would like to be in to win.
As soon as I started planning this prompt response, I knew I wanted to design a printable to go with it. The tags themselves quickly came together, but I struggled to find the focal images that I wanted. It was so difficult to find an image of the same rose in three different stages of flowering, at least in my budget. Eventually I found an image which had all three in one, so then began the tedious job of editing the three apart, which was soon followed by trying to find three mushroom images that would fit within each of the tags.
I am really proud of the finished printable and am just so happy to offer it as a free printable through my Ko-fi page. Look for the link below.
I’ve used the retro film strip as the hinges for this prompt, but I think it would also look amazing with ribbon or fabric instead. It you grab the freebie, be sure to send me a link so I can see what you create with it.
Please join me in the studio for the second prompt for Dephemerember 2024. Thank you for subscribing, liking and commenting below my videos. I really do love hearing from each and every one of you.
My freebie for this prompt response can be found;

Prompt 02 Altered Playing Card & Antique Keys - “It’s All Just Perception” Ephemera - Side Tuck with Page Tab and Dangle Ahhh Dephemerember, oh how I have missed you. Believe it or not I’ve missed the late-night panics about trying to get videos filmed, edited and published in a record amount of time, okay maybe not that bit of it, but I definitely missed the challenge issued to my creative jui...
Dephemerember 2024 - Sneaky Birthday Gift and Dephemerember Scraps
Переглядів 7217 годин тому
At the beginning of my Dephemerember preparation I started making a number of journals, all centred around a paper bag in fabric, journal cover. One of those covers was for my Dephemerember journal which you might have already seen. Several of them were gifts for crafting friends of mine around the world. None of the recipients knew they were on the way, so I’ve been waiting for confirmation fr...

This has been an extraordinary journey for me. I’ve learnt so much about the creative process, I’ve learnt new techniques and used some new products and I’ve learnt a lot about myself along the way. This was a challenge for me. Not just all the new products and new techniques, but the new me stuff as well. It’s been a journey that began long before I started this journal. The journey for this j...

This is it. Today I finally finished making my Dephemerember journal for 2024. What can I say except, I love, love, LOVE her! I think she truly is spectacular, even if I say so myself. I am so proud to call her mine. So much love has gone into the making of this journal and I think it shows. Thank you for joining me on this journey. I really have appreciated you along for this part of it, but t...
Dephemerember 2024 - Rookie Mistake or Absolute Genius? You be the judge.

I have known for some time now, that my mind works differently to most other people. Most of the time that works out to be really, really weird and people wonder what planet I’m from and just how did I come up with A B = Octopus; but other times it works out to be really, frikkin’ genius, if I say so myself. As with any handcraft, hobby or passion, there is so much we can learn and the more we ...

I’m pretty sure I said it only days ago, but I am having so much fun creating and decorating all these pages for my journal. They are all more than I have ever had; more than I have ever wanted and more than I honestly thought I deserved; but now I know that I do deserve beautiful pages like these. I have worked bloody hard to make them, so damned straight, I deserve them. And what’s more, I am...

This was supposed to be part of a longer video not a shorter video on its own, but editing Paula couldn’t resist leaving my reactions to these pages in the video, at full length. I just love these papers so much. Luise, and Barbara, you have me convinced. I am officially a convert to printing my printables on photo paper, and in particular double sided photo paper. Never, ever have I done so much to any pages that I have put into a journal as I have done for this journal. There I said it. Out loud. Publicly. And I have even arrived at the most of it. I know that doesn’t sound right, the saying is the worst of it; but I really like what is still to come video-wise, so it’s definitely not worst. I’m starting to experiment with my papers in this video. Stepp...

Have I said how much fun I have had decorating and creating the pages for my Dephemerember journal? If I haven’t already, I should have done so, definitely. Whatever I could say, simply wouldn’t be really able to express my feelings about them at all. Creating and making is my happy place. When I am creating, all my aches and pains disappear. When Cinderella went to the ball, she didn’t just go in the rags she was wearing, nor did Sophie Beckett when she went to the Masquerade at Bridgerton House. Now that I've all but finished the cover for my Dephemerember Journal, it's on to the good bit, the sorting out the papers to house within it's humble covers. May I ask where you got your bulk embossing powder?

    • @MoxyMojo
      @MoxyMojo 7 днів тому

      Now that's a tough question because I've had my embossing powder for so long that I'm struggling to remember where I got it from. I used to have an online scrapbooking business, and I think I may have purchased it from a local wholesaler here in New Zealand. Where they got it from, no idea. I've not been able to find a new supplier since they sold the business.

      Thank you R.J. I hope it helps. I know using my templates as a stitching guide has made sewing in my signatures so much easier. I've only tried it on soft (fabric) cover journals, but there is no reason it wouldn't work on hard covers as well.

    Your pages are GORGEOUS! Absolutely GORGEOUS! I saved the backing off book contact paper for my faux sellotape. Made it into a booklet and I have a variety of sizes and colours to choose from.

      @MoxyMojo 7 днів тому

      Thank you R.J. you are so sweet, but I think so too! That is an awesome idea and perfect. I've got my craft sheets rolled up and stored in an empty paper towel tube. It helps to keep control of my tape. Any short bits and scraps I stick on the front of my collage folders (these are by colour) so easy to find the colour I want. I love your alternative idea.

  • @tanjablume6343
    @tanjablume6343 8 днів тому

    Your pages look absolutely amazing! 💯🎉😊 How does the oxidation feel on the photo paper? Does any of it come off if you add water? When I added oxide inks onto photo paper through stencils, I wiped some of the oxidation off, underneath the colours are really bright and smooth. I am not saying that you should do anything g like that, I was just wondering since my printables are on library copy paper, so I didn't want to use the oxide inks on them ad they wouldn't be waterproof. I hopeI am making sense to you😂🤔🙋‍♀️💛

    • @MoxyMojo
      @MoxyMojo 7 днів тому

      Aww shucks Tanja, thank you. The oxidation itself feels quite chalky and its a weird cross between feeling incredibly smooth and silky and almost having a texture that catches your skin as you rub your finger across the paper. Like when your skin is a little dry because you've been in air conditioning. Yes, yes, yes, the colours underneath the oxidation are so vivid its almost like a colour overload. It's like the difference between printing in draft quality and photo quality, but bump that up another level again, and then you've got the pigment colour under the oxidation. I have patches of both on my photo papers - the oxidation and the straight pigment. It's really hard to explain the intensity of the colour or the variety. It's totally amazing, and I definitely think you should experiment with library printing or not. I think it would still work.

    Wow! You’ve been paper crafting for a long time! I don’t think I’ve found any others who’ve been doing it for 11years! I just saw one of your new videos & I always look to see how long they’ve been making videos! I discovered the world of junk journals at the beginning of the pandemic! So I’m a newbie compared to you! But I’m interested in the challenge run by Barbara & Luisa, so I’ve subscribed! I like this box arrangement, I need to make for my long strips of paper also! I was number 491, so you’re very close to 500! Erica❤I live in Kansas, USA, right smack dab in the middle of the country! I love your accent!❤

      Hi Erica. Thank you so much for subscribing. When I reach 500 I will be doing a giveaway, so watch this space! I may have been here for a while, but I still have so much to learn compared to some. Welcome to the world of junk journals. And it really is a world. I've met wonderful people from all corners of the world. My husband and I drove across the US from LA to Newark a few years ago. Unfortunately we were only able to drive through Kansas, but we both would love to come back at some stage. I'd love to go shopping for junk journal supplies. We struggle to get genuine ephemera here. This is my second year participating in Dephemerember, but I definitely plan on going back and completing the previous two year's prompts. I'd love to see how you use your strip box. I've found mine really useful and still use it to this day, though at the moment I'm too busy making journals to use the strips currently sitting in it.

      Thank you Tanja. I'll film something after Dephemerember is done. They'll probably be a little fuller by the time we're done. Essentially I have a file rack (from an office supplies) in which I sit a number of transparent "L" shaped pockets. Each pocket is labelled with faux blackboard label that I can write on with a pastel pencil, whatever colour is in the folder. I then store all my leftover scraps by colour, regardless of the material. I can even store any tape/washi scraps on the front because they are plastic. I do have a couple of colour combination folders for frequently used colour combinations or combinations that I'm planning to use for an upcoming journal.

    Hi Paula🙋‍♀️ I haven’t finished watching yet, but I like how you did it and how organised you where with your paper bags. I have noticed that the inks dry really quite quickly on photo paper.

    • @MoxyMojo
      @MoxyMojo 7 днів тому

      Thank you Tanja. I have a HUGE stash of paperbags, so finding a means of using up some of that stash is awesome. I think I see a lot more paperbag cover journals in my future if I'm to stay on top of my stash though. I'm always trying to get as much benefit out of things as possible, so I'm always looking for ways to maximise my useable real estate, so to speak. I was surprised myself at how fast the ink dried on the photo paper. Almost instantly. They really didn't need drying with a heat tool, especially during warmer weather. I'm just impatient, especially when filming.

      @MoxyMojo 14 днів тому

      Thank you Tanja. The tree is growing on me. I agree, gesso is a great option when it all turns to custard. I would have considered it, had it not been that particular piece of paper. Almost any other yes, but I chose that paper because it was gifted to me by another crafter so I just couldn't bring myself to cover up the tea and coffee dyed pattern on it. I know I'm my own worst enemy lol.

    • @MoxyMojo
      @MoxyMojo 16 днів тому

      To be honest my ink swatches are a mess. I love how Luise has done all her swatches. If I had the time and the inclination, I would do something similar to what she has done, instead of my mismatch, lazy swatching. I started off really well, but recently have been letting the team down with them. For you though I will sort out my act and both record a video and tidy up my swatches... just maybe after Dephemerember.

    I was happy to see how you used re-inker ink. Now I can have a play. Thank you for your video !

      Thank you. I love hearing that I've inspired someone to try something. I bought some cheap misting bottles (might've been for hair products) and partially filled them with water. I kept adding a few drops at a time, then mixing it up before testing it until I was happy with the colour I was getting. I make sure to shake the bottles before spraying, especially the one from the Oxide Ink. The Oxide separates so you just want to mix them together before using. I'm only now about ready to make my second batch. You don't use that much at a time so I've been surprised at how well it has lasted. Let me know how you get on.

    I like the end result of the brail page. Also, the stencil with the round numbers looks great 👍

      Thank you Tanja. The results from the braille pages were awesome, especially the second page (which of course I didn't film). I'm not sure if it was because the paper was just that little bit heavier than most of the usual papers we use or not, but it really handled all the wet mediums so well. I love how the ink reacted around both the indents and raised "dots". They each seemed to have a mnd of their own. I'm so pleased you like the stencil with the round numbers. I love it too.

      Thank you. Some days you struggle to find papers for a journal and other days you just know what you want. I'm grateful this went nice and smoothly as it's made all the decorating so much more fun.

      Hahaha Tanja, that is so true. So long as they don't decide to also put up a bit of a fight, I'm okay with a bit of backchat.

    Hi Paula, I am so glad you loved the bits & pieces I sent you🥰 I am also so glad that we have found each other last year,💯👯‍♀️🥰 thanks to Luise 💛& Barbara💛🥳🙏 Sorry, I left you off the map🇳🇿🤭 I loved making the tag for you ! I hadn't allocated either person, but you are right, they are very cute, so that must be us😂🤣😂 For the texture I mixed smooth texture paste with beach sand⛱️ The owl and the leaf are stamps that I made from those foam sheets you can buy in craft shops. The stencil is a damask wallpaper pattern, again texture paste on top of gesso. Then coffee, there might have been a little bit of walnut stain in it. The black paper was a magazine page that I used last dephemerember for the prompt "Christmas meets Halloween" You also got some of the pages my with rust water experiments & coffee, the two comined create different shades of grey to almost black. The serviette was an experiment following one of Luise's fabolous videos, where she stamped onto a non stick surface and then used thinned grungy glue (mixed with coffee) to adhere one layer of serviette on top, to pick up the stamped image. She had some great results!! The last two pages come from whichcraftdoyoudo in Australia, they have been printed on news print paper. I have stamped the phrases( Tim Holtz clear stamps) onto matte photo paper. So you cod throw some oxide ink onto it,which then would be waterproof😃 🙋‍♀️💖💖💖🏡👩🏼‍🎨

      Thank you for the awesome bundle of scraps. You never fail to send items that delight me and I know will challenge me. We are two peas in a pod, soul sisters who must've known each other in a past life or something as we do get on and seem to know each other so well. I love the tag. They might need to be on display during Dephemerember cheering me on, but then they will eventually go into my Happy Mail / Gratitude Journal, once I finish making it... I've done the cover! I've not tried adding sand to texture paste, mainly because I'm not much of a beach person, no bikini body, but I might have to convince myself to go for a wander to collect some. I do have some of the sheet foam and have made some texture plates which I've used on my gelli print plate, but not tried them as stamps... DUH! Adding that to my techniques to try in the New Year list. Ahh some of the infamous rust and coffee water experiments currently heading my to-do list. It really is a long list! I don't think I watched that video, so now I need a videos to watch in the New Year list as well. I've heard of Whichcraftdoyoudo, and briefly looked at their website but not bought anything. The huge freigh charge is a little off-putting, but I might need to go back and have another look... you are such an enabler! LOL Gotcha re the phrases. I will try that. Awesome idea about the stamping and the Oxide ink. Love you Scrappy Sister

      Actually, the texture paste I mixed up for your tag, might have included powder sugar, since it's so white. I have heard people using aquarium sand to add to acrylic paint to mix your own. I'll have to experiment some more during Dephemerember 🎉

      I hadn't thought of aquarium sand. Surely that's an expensive option, but if you don't have access to a beach, then needs must. Thank goodness we're close to a beach.

    I like the cover with the measuring tapes and your first one with the black stripes in a kind of circle shape🙋‍♀️💛

      @MoxyMojo 20 днів тому

      Thank you Tanja. I love all the fabrc I used for these journals but I do have some favourites, The black stripes and circles is definitely one of them. I think I've used it in three or four journals now. I just keep coming back to it. I also love anything sewing themed but yes the measuring tapes is a favourite too. There is something about the combination of the brighter colours and the structure of the measuring tapes lined up that I love.
