Impressions Of Dune (David Lynch's Dune) - Making of
Dune is a 1984 American epic space opera film written and directed by David Lynch and based on the 1965 Frank Herbert novel of the same name. It was filmed at the Churubusco Studios in Mexico City. The soundtrack was composed by the rock band Toto, with a contribution from Brian Eno. Its large ensemble cast includes Kyle MacLachlan's film debut as young nobleman Paul Atreides, Patrick Stewart, Brad Dourif, Dean Stockwell, Virginia Madsen, José Ferrer, Sean Young, Sting, Linda Hunt, and Max von Sydow.
The setting is the distant future, chronicling the conflict between rival noble families as they battle for control of the extremely harsh desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune. The planet is the only source of the drug melange (spice), which allows prescience and is vital to space travel, making it the most essential and valuable commodity in the universe. Paul Atreides is the scion and heir of a powerful noble family, whose appointment to the control of Arrakis brings them into conflict with its former overlords, House Harkonnen. Paul is also possibly the Kwisatz Haderach, a messianic figure expected by the Bene Gesserit sisterhood.
After the novel's initial success, attempts to adapt Dune as a film began in 1971. A lengthy process of development followed throughout the 1970s, during which Arthur P. Jacobs, Alejandro Jodorowsky, and Ridley Scott unsuccessfully tried to bring their visions to the screen. In 1981, executive producer Dino De Laurentiis hired Lynch as director.
The film underperformed at the box office, grossing $30.9 million from a $40-42 million budget. At least four versions have been released worldwide. Lynch largely disowned the finished film and had his name removed or changed to pseudonyms. The film has developed a cult following,[4][5] but opinion varies between fans of the novel and fans of Lynch's films.[6]

It’s amazing how I watched the making of training day before this and both directors are great, but very different. Antoine let the actors do what they felt was authentic with the script and movements from time to time. Michael Mann from what I saw in this has it all mapped out and tells them exactly what to say, how to say it, and where to move for every physical movement. They both work, but holy shit there’s no way I could keep my composure filming the same scene 75 times for a couple lines on a cell phone. I would definitely get nasty with Michael and be like I’m not doing this all night because you have some weird never satisfied perfectionist thing going on. But then again I guess that’s why I’m just a limo driver.
One of my all time favorite movies! You always know that so much goes into making a movie but it always shocks me as to how much time and effort goes into every detail in these great movies, you knew ones like this and training day were gonna be classics in modern cinema because of how deep these talented directors and actors care about these projects, please believe us fans when we tell you that it doesn’t go unnoticed! Training day and Collateral, two classic LA movies!
A "must own" movie! Thank you to all who worked on the film for their dedication to perfection!!!
I just watched for the second time. WE NEED PART 2
Such a crazy good movie, I'm really glad that you uploaded this!
I really appreciate your efforts! I have a quick question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
Just admit it - the movie is not about "max" - it's about VIncent.
It’s about how a perfectly average dude would interact with and be changed by someone like Vincent
It was so unfair how she got kicked off The Mandalorian because of some opinions?!? You can get blacklisted for saying your opinion today, and it has similarities when you read about artists getting publically shamed and put in prisons in some places of the world. I have not seen this film, but I am going to do so tonight.
Fun little movie with lots of a-listers in every role. I have no idea why it got so bad reviews. It has a lot of spy movie vintage vibe and never boring.
We need a backstory movie on vincent.
I love watching crap movie like this one...especially on bootleg 😂
One of the best horror movies of all time geniuos
The fact that all the actors keep their natural accents makes it even funnier.
I wish Michael Mann would make a movie every year. This dude is amazing. I can’t believe Jason Stathem had a small role
And they managed to do it with only 8 million dollars..poor actors..they did not get paid a penny
...you never know who you gonna meet
where's the publicist ava duverney
man i cannot believe just how amazing this film is... absolute winner of any oscar!! sooooo underrated, i love it!
Keep up the great work! Excellent doc on Michael Mann's creative genius!
I'm watching it for the first time. After that Portlandia episode, I had to go for it. Especially since the death of Star Wars (RIP). I just finished season 2 and I'm floored what they did with Gaius and looping that all together. Just a fantastic series.
I love the chemistry between Jamie and Tom.
Awesome movie, mate
HEAT + COLLATERAL + MIAMI VICE....one of the best saga
Amazing
The cold, dead eyes of jada pinkett: Sadly, she can't convey warmth. foxx ticks the 'Affirmative Action' box... But, it's Cruise who's the revelation, here 💥💥💥
this show was mine game of thrones at the time and for many people was huge in 2004 beyond
This making of it's a masterclass. Michael Mann is a genius
I've always hated that the girl being hunted by a killer gets into the cab which the killer later takes. Not that the killer sees her take and then decides he wants. They just happen to share the same cab driver. It's so stupid to me.
How the hell do you tie the story together in any other way??
28:44 *"Yo homie, are those my pants"*
Michael Mann is the greatest urban director ever 👏 👏
This is my favorite zombie movie 🎥🍿 franchise
Do you have the subtitles of all the extras from the bluray? I've been looking for them.
This was basically a realistic version of John Wick without being over the top. I always wonder what John Wick would have been like if someone with more acting chops was cast in the role. Someone that can actually act angry and threatening.
Movie is great (.)
39:20 what song is that?
I saw this during the holidays
What the hell is this, a making of or a documentary about OMS???
So Tom Cruise helped Jamie Foxx to be on this movie and to be nominated. In exchange, Jamie Foxx fuc*ed Tom's wife. What a douche.
Since they made Tom’s hair grey in this he could easily do a prequel to this where they show another time that he was in LA or a different city
Bob Dylan's song "You're gonna make me lonesome when you go saved my life.
The amazing thing about Badlands is, that Holly and Kit is that they do horrendeous, heinous crimes but still come somehow across as innocent kids.
Holly’s Daddy’s wasn’t too crazy about her boyfriend Terri especially when he’s killed her doggie 🐶. Jennydebrier
Michael Mann is the greatest director ever. Last of the Mohicans and Heat are my two favorite movies of all time.
I knew Apollo was British, but that's definitely not the accent I assumed he has.
One of my favorite movies.
sean bean acts like a meth head the whole film
best driving scene in a movie is in to live and die La by william freidkin
The chase scene is up there with the best five of all time. Reminds me of Hitchcock's simplicity that takes a master to achieve. Could not take my eye off the screen in case I missed something. But I did miss the case content or this is like Vincent Vegas case ? Loved it.
It's that slap women?????
Wow, actor and director met there match . The work ethic of Tom Cruise is elite. There will never be an actor of this caliber again .
"Attention to detail" is the epitome of understatement. Holy cow.
