Patos Island “Harbor”….isn’t very good

On a NW wind, this is a genuinely awful anchorage.

I really enjoyed this video.
They’re still out there trying to find the answer to the question!
It seems verry low in the water
I was reading Capt. Pete's "On Wooden Boats" when I caught this video. You said all that needs saying to my mind when you said, "The boat then looks after you." Succinct , Mr. McMullen. Thank you for touching up my my day. Pete Culler wrote what I consider my other bible, and I could hear Capt Pete saying those very same words. Best of health to you Mr. McMullen from the hills of Virginia. Cork Camden
I don't know how I hadn't come across this video until now. This must have been one awesome day on the water.

I personally would like to see a video of at least several hours featuring James McMullen sailing and/or diatribing about anything that comes to mind.
Ha ha! What would you like me to rant about next?
I agree. Blowing right down a wide open fetch. But, at least you're there, while I am here.
The narrator has an awful stammer.
Ambient sound. Excellent!
Hmm. Somehow I missed this one until pointed right at it by your post at the WoodenBoat Forum. Thanks!
Would you mind giving a bit more detail, maybe dimensions? This is just what I need to build!
Очень красивая лодка!!
you really need to change the title on this clip chap, talk about false advertising. nicely built boat by the way.
I've sailed that stretch in a 16 foot flat bottom skiff with a fractional marconi rig with a little stem head jib .... Beautiful place
My fist time was in my Victory 17... can be a tricky place to sail at times. But I always enjoy the beauty of the San Juan Islands.
Просто кайф!)
a real beauty
Beautifull
What kind of boat is that ... Designer & dimensions please
Just installed a new standing lug on my Grumman 18 trimaran. Slightly smaller than the 65ft gunter that I have been using for several years, and with the boom length shorter, I was wondering about adding a small mizzen. Any recommendations on such? I have a 19ft Poo Duck jib. Is that transferable if I rake it like the mizzen on this boat to simulate its natural set?
Techno/Yodelin' Fusion. Hold me back. I'm about to bust a move. Great video. Someday, you might encounter a Grumman 18 trimaran out on the salt chuck. It's okay. You can laugh.
My dear James Bond . Nice video.. but still Not a word about the speed?? But the heading is misleading ?
Sivagurunathan Paranitharan, I believe the question is still unanswered, perhaps unanswerable. It is a veritable zen koan of a question. The answer depends on who asks it.
So sad that James McMullen left out the vitals stats on these Peapods. There is a wide range of Peapods, you would hope they would tell us some basic info about the boats. I see so many of these types of videos with nameless designers, length, beam, characteristics under sail, mods if any and why, best sailing conditions, etc, that I assume they're more interested in making the video than boats, please consider rest of us boat lovers we’d love to know.
I might be wrong Karl-and I certainly would not want to overstep my boundaries-but I believe the boat is the Matinicus peapod as designed by duck trap. A start for you anyway..
Jim, looks like a good time. I was just wondering, are you related to Joe and Christie? I went to school with them. Anyway, thanks for posting this one. Pretty cool. -b
I'm afraid I don't know Joe or Christie, so if we are related, it's only distantly. Glad you liked the vid, though.
@@jameswmcmullen Oh well...thank for not leaving me hanging.
Hi James! Wonderful boat. Did you by chance purchase it up in San Juan islands/Anacortes?
Joshua, yes I did. But I sold it over four years ago when I moved from the US to Singapore. I think she’s down in Seattle now.
James McMullen did you purchase it from a Robert Lehr? Just curious if this was the boat I grew up sailing on Lopez!
The guy I bought it from was named Clay. This boat was originally all white. I repainted the topsides green when I hauled it to install a new diesel.
great upload peapod is a timeless
Real class.
We had an old family boat called the rowena
Привет! Давай больше видео!
Meh New England cat boats are faster.
Looks like to me that these boats can easily capsize and are hard to righten up after a capsize. Am I wrong? I would prefer a small keelboat or an unsinkable dingy for safety reasons. These small wooden sailing vessels looks to be lively to handle.
Yep. These are not boats for lubbers. They reward excellent seamanship but they also absolutely require it. Choose a different sort of boating if you're not willing to invest in the time and practice required. Sail & oar cruising in the PNW is not a casual sport.
This is what health and safety stickers anywhere and on everything does to people. LOL.
@@team3383 Stop people drowning? We can’t have that now, can we?😉
I check a lot of woodworking handbooks. These one from woodprix are the best.
How fast ???????????
Yep, but you don’t answer your question? Did you get 5 or 6 SOG?
Hey uncle
Good looking fleet!
Cute, in the best possible way. 😎
I love this video :-) Abo and like !
Nice video ! Abo thx :-)
This is still great, but not as awesome as it was with the audio!
The boat is not nuts & I love it. The music sounds completely nuts but I think I love it too.
Coastal British Columbia?
Almost too much fun to be legal!
You race that in the "Scramble" last summer?
You are a tease skipper, how fast can it go?
I suppose it all depends on your scale of reference, donnit?
Nice tour... You make it look too easy😉
But how fast can a Peapod go ?
