Fixing the engine coolant over temperature error on a 2015 F150 XLT 2.7l. Scanned code P1299 in this instance. Check if this is the only code, if so you need a cylinder head temp sensor. Remove engine cover with two 10mm nuts, use a small flat screwdriver to unclip the 2 wire connector, use 19mm wrench to remove the old sensor, put the new sensor on hand tight, and clear codes. Mine is reading a p0128 and p1299 changed out both thermostat and cylinder head temp sensor and nothing gauge still goes to hot as soon as truck is started but not getting hot also ac doesn’t blow cold and truck is in protective mode if I clear the code everything works fine for a few minutes then check engine light comes back on
You will have to get a scan tool hooked up that can read the sensors individually. If they are reading out of limit or something high then you can spot the issue. Most likely you will need a dealer or a small repair shop to find your issue.
