The most devastating music in the world
Woops, no 8D for this one, eh?
Looks like a 12D. I wouldn't want to play that on an 8D! I have to admit though, this was my first thought too LOL
It is a 12D. Look at the valve caps and the 3rd valve slide Bb side. I own both a 12D and a Paxman 40 right now. Nathaniel is playing the 12D for sure. There is also a significant linkage difference on the Bb/F alto trigger. The 40 is mechanical while the 12D is string.
Y’all are ridiculous 😂
I know. Gotta embrace the inner nerd.

Cleveland, nice!
Me and the boys:
There is a wonderful excerpt of this, the last 4 minutes of this opus recorded in 1957 by Reiner and the Chicago Symphony with Bud Herseth et. al, that is about the same tempo, and if anything, more precise without a loss of control. Worth listening to. And yes, Strauss is a guilty pleasure but then so is pasta. I can't do without either.
Listen again to Reiner. I think you are wrong that it is "about the same tempo". Reiner is somewhat slower and it makes all the difference. This performance by the BPO sounds chaotic to me -- Reiner and the CSO do not.
And why the hell is Strauss a "guilty pleasure"???
@@somebody9033 Play through a piano reduction of let's say, Beethoven 6th, or Brahms 4, and this Strauss piece and you will see the difference.
@@guidepost42 and what precisely IS the difference?
Es sind Wiener Trompeten
Strauss's greatest tone poem

Semplicemente Eccezionali!!! Come sempre del resto. Fantastici!!!
Ugghhhh i hate classic music its so annoying!!!
bravo‼️
Bravi! You sound like you' re playing 10 brass instruments👏👏
Whoever wrote “the music gets lost in that [the tempo]” needs a soul transplant. This is Strauss in all his insane, virtuosic excess. No one else gets it like Petrenko and the BPO. Thank God we have them in our midst to keep the flame alive.
This is noticeably too fast. There's no need to hurry. Don't tarry, but don't rush Enjoy the JOY. Mehta and the LA Phil in 1968 did it best (available on Sony)
@@jamesoliver6625 I agree about the tempo; too fast. For me, nothing compares with Reiner and the CSO in this masterpiece.
Wow stefan dohrs tone in the high range is insane lord have mercy
Looks like fast forward
trumpet power!👍
OMG is the sound pure! ❤ They played as one. There are a lot of superb hornists out there today. I used to fear that classical instruments would dissappear.
the saxophones sounding good on the recording, very good
I would pee in my pants if I knew I had to play Domestica at that tempo. Oh my God. The truest challenge. The music unfortunately gets lost in that. I believe the only true recording I have is from Maazel with Bavarian Radio. However, the Berliners play this majestically as always. The best in the world no doubt.
In many ways it's easier, it goes by faster! Musically it misses the point... it's just not as beautiful.
High E's on a single F Vienna horn! Wow
You mean high A
*Double Alexander*
@@byzongahtrum107 Yes, actual pitch is A

The greatest orchestra, and the greatest horn section, in the world!
Well, double horns...
It's definitely one of....
I wouldn’t call that a solo when it’s with the cellos and whoever else but still incredible playing
Why do vienna horns have so much more power than double horns? Is it just all to do with the bell flare and bell itself?
This is wonderful. I haven't heard it done better in any recording.
Grande mati
Sometimes, horn players get accused of believing that they are gods. Belief has nothing to do with it. 😊
Wahnsinn
Sarah Willis on 2nd. One of my favourite players who does a lot to spread the word about the horn.
And p.s. 2nd is a very important part. Chief job is to provide support for 1st. Section without a strong 2nd is not a good section IMHO
Ooo, i love that version.
Samuel tiene un sonido muy bonito 💪📯👏
Bravo...but...wait....there's more.....!
A mighty gang of three wolves! 😎😇👍
Wahnsinn
I like so much this kind of www.
Where can one find the recording in whole?
Unfortunately I didn’t find the whole concert
The first time I heard this piece of music on the radio was around the 1970s.It was performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra during their visit to my country.I was deeply captivated by the music and the sound seemed to be from outside of this world.
Beautiful horn performance, sadly the trumpets were a bit sharp…
Thank you for sharing😮
Heldenleben on vienna horns are crazy

Himmlisch
Diese Hörner hören sich fatal an 🤮
Love the concertmaster- wonderfully played!
Unglaublicher Sound und tolle Intonation - musikalisch sowieso!
You can always tell the comments from non-orchestral players on here. I've played that Horn solo and, as others have said, the concentration, poise, constant attention to intonation - especially in the duet with the lead violin - is immense. It is a wonderful moment when it's obvious to me that Richard Strauss pays homage, not just to his wife (in the solo violin part) but also to his horn-playing father. It's so moving. You cannot get playing like this with a gun to your head!
