1999 AMA 125 West Coast SUPERCROSS - FULL SEASON
An action packed series. Casey JOHNSON looks like he will walk away with the title after dominating the early rounds. Unfortunately being side-lined with injury mid season, his team mate Casey LYTLE gets a gift to lead the series. However the pressure gets to him & in rides an on-form Nathan RAMSEY, who does the business & comes good when it matters to take the series title on his Pro-Circuit Kawasaki.

The year of the Ernie, Ernesto FONSECA. See Ernie battle with Stefan RONCADA, Broc SELLARDS & Co to show his silky smooth style. This was the year when Kelly SMITH on his KTM lead a round until the last lap, when he collided with FONSECA. SMITH was NOT happy. Excellent viewing.

The year of the EMIG. Jeff EMIG gives a masterclass of riding to take a 1:1 at the historic Millville circuit. However, race 2 he had to earn his spot, with an epic battle all the way to the chequered flag with Yamaha's John DOWD. Excellent viewing for any Moto fan.

Round 10 of 13 at Spring Creek, 125's @ Millville With Ricky CARMICHAEL dominating in his rookie year, it was the time for the reigning champ Steve LAMSON to have a decent weekend. Race 2 saw LAMSON hunt down & pass CARMICHAEL to show he's still got some fight left in him to take a solid 2nd place on the podium behind RC. Excellent racing.

On the very warm Ohio weekend, who can not just finish up front, but who can even finish the moto's in the humid Troy heat. The answer is reigning champ Jeff EMIG, who goes 1:1 on the day, however he had to earn it. Batlling with Ezra LUSK, Damon BRADSHAW & Jeremy McGRATH in moto 1. Moto 2 saw an on form Larry WARD pushing EMIG for much of the race, encouraged by the fact that the Honda of Troy...

On a very warm Ohio day, Kawasaki mounted Damon HUFFMAN shows the field how it's done. With Ricky CARMICHAEL dominating the class all year, it was a surpise to see HUFFMAN take both moto's, making it look effortless. He was silky smooth all weekend. CARMICHAEL limits the damage by taking 2 runner up spots, trying to keep HUFFMAN in his sights.

Bradshaw Day & the High Point fans went WILD - Racerxonline gave a write-up better than anything I can offer, which is as follows: By the summer of 1997, Bradshaw was again just an occasional podium guy, including the first moto at High Point, his favorite track, where he finished third in a muddy first moto. Then it kept raining. Raining and raining and by the second 250 moto, most of the ride...

With RC dominating the first 3 rounds of the 1997 AMA 125 Outdoor, a day for the tables to turn & let someone else top the podium. Scott SHEAK was up to the job with a hard fought 1:1 on the day, but he had to work for it. I don't think there was anyone, apart from RC, who was not happy to see the paddocks favourite SHEAK get his first ever clean sweep. Excellent racing on the sloppy track with...

After the all action Foxhill Double Header GP in England the week before, Italian Ace Alessio CHIODI stamped his authority with a 1:1 on the day. Championship leader & fellow Italian Alex PUZAR, along with the french youngster Sebastian TORTELLI took the next steps on the poduim, both ready to pounce if the little Italian made a mistake at the front of the pack.

With Jeff EMIG having an off in moto 1, it leaves the field open for the rest. Jeremy McGRATH, Ezra LUSK, Mike LAROCCO & Ryan HUGHES to fight for the top spot. An on form LUSK takes his first win of the season. Excellent to keep an eye on EMIG cutting his way through the pack from mid 20's position to his eventual 5th spot. EMIG keeps it upright in moto 2 to take the win, with LUSK ending in 2n...

From the Iconic Maryland circuit, Kevin WINDHAM has the speed but no luck & Ricky CARMICHAEL shows his dominance in his ROOKIE year. Scott SHEAK also had good speed & came into the event just a couple of points behind CARMICHAEL, however after suffering from bike mechanicals, he left the event way behind Ricky in the standings. Solid performances from Damon HUFFMAN & Casey JOHNSON kept CARMICHA...

Watch Stefan EVERTS show his dominance to go 1:1 for the day, with Marnicq BERVOETS in sight of EVERTS in both races, ready & waiting for the mistake that never happened. Brit Kurt NICHOLL rode well in both motos to take the 3rd step of the podium, with a strong ride for former 125 World Champ Pedro TRAGTER getting 3rd in race 2 for 4th overall on the day.

Classic David VUILLEMIN v Jeremy McGRATH, all the way to the chequered flag. They both left Ricky CARMICHAEL, Kevin WINDHAM & Mike LaROCCO behind whilst fighting for the lead. Mac, with the worse start, needed to keep VUILLEMIN in sight, giving all he had to stay on his back wheel of the fast Frenchman. Excellent racing.

Stewart got screwed in this season that dude gave it hell while being at a major disadvantage ricky did it on a 2 stroke the years before but they were still figuring out the 4 strokes then once stewart moved up kawasaki didn’t have a 4 stroke yet but the following year was freakin awesome
I was there watching my 2nd GP, just hearing those names again after all these years puts a big smile on my face
A very historical track!
It’s easy to see that Ricky‘s 450 was tearing those 250s up they didn’t have a chance I wish James would’ve been on a 450 in 2005 as well. Definitely would’ve made it more competitive.
I can’t believe the dust. How things have changed.
Very good 😊
I wish the 90s never ended! This is such a flashback!
Awesome footage back in the day 👍😉
TWO STROKE FOREVER, THE BEST 2 STROKS
How the he'll do you kill the fear of shit can happen but yet you go go for gold I want the feeling just like you on a road bike I would go for it but on motor cross I shit my pants you are great to ride like king funk it
Getting to watch perhals the 2 smoothest best talent riders ever battle for heat race 2nd place was worth it alone! I remember taping this race off espn but have necer heard this version or some of the footage. Thanks! 👍
👏👏👏
These were the best days of motocross and supercross. McGrath on the Honda and battling Emig. He was never the same after he left Honda.
isso sim era motocross motos 2 tempos e raça pura, two stroke forever, tenho uma yz 250 2009 afinada
RIP to the legendary voice of motocross Art Eckmann
Vivid memories... Yes it was so odd to place 450 in the smoker class. Sign of the times. As a tech the 4strokes were so complicated, if not tempermental. I lividly remember hot 4 strokes not starting due to crash. Its only afterthought - there were two if not three technologies being refined during this era. engine frame and rider prep (physical conditioning) Off camera theres even a battle going. economy Nascar is in great change. since 2000 one would wonder who paid the most for the top win. (lets cycle thru the top fan favorites/ anything to get the stands filled) oh and through some merch in Walmart for the suckers while your at it anyhow thanks for the flashback... totally got a smile outta this
Great racing, thanks for sharing! Would be interesting to know what Rob Herring is doing today...
25 years ago, not much bike development in that time.
Are you joking ?? It was the most developed motor cross bikes ever in history lol you obviously haven’t watched or listened to the same footage
why did they have to close this track ,best in the world
2 race memories that stick out to me are the one where Stewart landed on Carmichael's Back in 2005, and when Reed and Stewart tangled on the last lap of the 2011 Atlanta SX, letting Villipoto and Dungey het by for First and Second
They must’ve rebuilt Henry’s thing between motos as it was shot
80’s and 90’s best era imo , two stroke noise hard to beat .
Real mens tracks
The rest was history. Thank you for uploading this.
YES
Cool to see, this was a year before I remember watching motocross
I forgot Dowd was still catching licks this season in the early laps a lot of motos
James was working OT on that 2 stroke, I can’t imagine how exhausting it was compared to a 450 at that level
McGrath was amazing and had good competition that year. He never looked to be in the good shape he must have been.
Loved seeing how this year played out.. Read about it, heard about it. But never seen. Here's an alternate world. Greg comes to the USA in 1994 for team Honda and wins the 1994 outdoor nationals.... Has some good luck as did in Europe in 94 then falls off most races (as he did) in 95,96,97, 98. Really liked Albe, and he added an extra dynamic to a packed outdoor field in the mid to late 90s an in the early 00s.
Roncadas YZ just cruising atop of those whoops!
Carmicheals whole vibe is unmatched
Bestera of mx
The bikes, the tracks, the characters. Best era of mx for me❤
How the mighty had fallen. Trampas Parker couldn’t get arrested impersonating an ama us national mx’r and he goes over to Europe and wins world championships in two classes. His best finish in the us was a third in an 125cc sx at San Diego which at that time would’ve been classified as a support class race. He wasn’t even in the main event that night. He never finished in the top ten of any other stateside ama national mx he constested here in the us from 1985 through 1992. Any top ten us rider could’ve gone to Europe and won the world championship in any class they chose to compete in. That never would’ve happened in the golden era when r/d, Heikki , j/r or the rest of the elite European GP riders were in the race and competing for wins, championships and all of the glory that accompanied an FIM mx world championship series in its time. Sorry, not sorry, I can’t get excited about it..let alone acknowledge it..it was a massive perpetration of a fraud so grand that everyone saw it and had no clue of what just happened..
Jeff smith at 2:17…Dave bickers at 2:23..great vid..thanks for the share BRG…
1:08:25 Check that out for the start. The mechanic of #81, gave the bike a push when the gate dropped. :)
I think I figured out what motivated RC the most, and it isn't politically correct. When he did the Whiskey throttle show, I got the hint. "I was terrified to lose, scared to death! I am sure no sports psychologist would say that is good, but that is the way I was." How did he get that way? He got bullied in grade school. Every short, fat ginger kid got bullied in grade school, (Yep, every one). Of course this is my speculation, but it makes sense to me. I don't know how bad the bullying was, but it stopped when he started winning amateur championships by the time he was in HS, (maybe before HS). I can see that is why RC said what he said on the throttle show. Unusual motivation, but against all the school rules today, RC became the GOAT of MX because of grade school bullying. How ironic is that? My thoughts anyway. What do you guys think? Doug in Michigan
I remember when RC announced that he was switching to 4-strokes (I think for this year, 2005), and he was one of the last holdouts (Only James left). RC said, (while choking a bit), "The 4-stroke is the future". When somebody says that, you can bet there is "force" making that future, (EPA force in this case). Because with real free enterprise, (how the sport pretty much was before the EPA force), we never know what the future brings. The future in free enterprise is what ever we can think of, as competitors, new and old, in a free enterprise system that works the best,---and no force is involved. Food for thought? Hard to beat that sound 🎶
Raced here on a Kx100 and it was the hardest track I've ever raced on at the 1990 Northern Schoolboy National travelled up on the Friday after school from London, broke down opposite the RAC Center in Birmingham on the M1, conditions like here but no sun, went home after the 3rd race on Sunday. I raced against some of these riders here.
Elsworth looked the best i ever saw it here.
Suzukis kicked ass
Thanks for posting these. Great memories.
Today and yesterday. Notice that RC, winning the championship with 4 moto's to go, still gave it his all for himself and the fans for the last 4 moto's, instead of riding around in 7th place like so many would today. IMO, the difference is the true winning spirit that never settles for less. Say what you want about not taking chances, but I was there. We were just like that when we were the best in the world, from Hannah to Villapoto. When we saw that, we knew we were seeing stand alone "greatness", and nothing was better to look up to.
If time travel was possible, being there at chateau du monument would be in my top 3
If James was on a 450, the outcome would have been James being spotlight rider. RC would have struggled to keep up with James.
James was on the 450 the next year. Usually, after the facts have played out, hindsight is 20-20. How good is your hindsight? The history is there, if you want to look it up. :) James and Tortelli were the toughest for RC outdoors though. But RC never lost a outdoor championship.
What an atmosphere and track ...more people there on one weekend than the whole of modern MXGP season.😢 Max Anstie's Dad in there racing
