More of me talking about one of my guitars. This one I made a mess refinishing but it still sounds and plays great.

I was unable to find a review of this guitar when i was about to purchase it and i thought this beautiful instrument deserved a detailed review. Update Jan 2014. This is a bit of a shitty video. I wasnt playing much at the time so the playing is quite sloppy. The comments are the guitar are accurate though. Nice instrument if you can find one.

We are driving across Lake Invermere in a company rental car. We kept wondering how we would explain everything if we broke through the ice, but we didnt. The camera did ot pick up the sound of the ice cracking over the wind and white noise but you could hear it cracking under the car and then vanishing off into the distance.

Enjoyed your 2 parter on this. I am about to do my show & tell (finally) with it. So your vids were veryhelpful.
Was just about to buy it and wasn't so sure.. Thanks so much for the review !
Thanks for the video. Was the 350$ you paid used or new?
Very nice tones!
Led Zepp always sound better after a tonerite session!
Too quiet!
Still have mine & love it. Would buy a 2nd if I ever saw one. Truth be told in person I have seen one other one total. I think they were limited run as I recall.
Glad it worked bro! Back in June '15 I sheepishly put $149 of my PayPal built up credit on this and was wondering what sort of fool I would be proven. Well low and behold it worked. It totally opened up an Epiphone FT-79 "Inspired by '64 "Texan'" like crazy. That guitar is a 2011 serial# that I bought in June 2015 for $125 because of Factory 2nd finish flaws and it being reboxed so many times by people that freaked over the finish flaws and returned it. Well it was dead as a doornail but ToneRite brought it to life. Gone are its lonely days on the cargo container ship and multiple warehouse stays and UPS truck rides, and opening and being snarled at and reboxed.
I hope it worked on that cracked top guitar; I'm headed to video #2 to check it out. My experience is that this ToneRite thing flat rules man. I think my results are even more astounding because I've installed the JLD Bridge Truss (anti belly) system on all my acoustic guitars and this gizmo vibrates that dowel rod and really gets the side and back of the guitar with its wood opening tone vibes. And believe me I've had luck getting more volume and clarity out of two of my cheaper laminated guitars, though this device is more meant for solid wood guitars.
what kind of acoustic strings you use in this video
+sitimpakul Just D'addario, nothing fancy. Its the result of the seasoning by the tonerite that makes the difference.
sounds a little generic to my ears. maybe because you're going for a little grit and maybe you don't have the treble up as high as would be needed to get that fendery sound?
Tuning can be time consuming. I was a dedicated tuning fork guy for years but I use a peterson VS-F now. I got one used for about 60 bucks. For me it makes tuning much faster, and considerably more accurate. And yes, the guitar is a fantastic value. Wishing you many years of happy playing.
I just bought the AF84 a few days ago which is basically the same guitar but without the electronics all acoustic. The previous owner bought it in Europe because it was "cute" and he wanted to play. He never played guitar before, and concluded after a few days he never can so he decided to sell the guitar. I got it after sitting in his stockroom for about 7 years still in brand new condition with the foam still under the saddle.
I'm having issues with this amp. I'm not sure what's going on with it. I love the clean tones from it but when I turn it up the clean channel breaks up really bad. I thought it was my cab so I spent some cash and got new speakers. I was extremely disappointed but that had no effect on my issue. Is it the tube that you replaced that would make the difference?
Thanks just bougt the ht 5th epic amp great review
Thanks man. Glad you enjoyed it.
Plain' Cherub Rock trough this kickin' ass amp made this video just awesome! Cheers from Italy.
Thanks for the feedback. I have a few more videos of this amp but havent posted any of them. There was some problems with the video(s) low volume etc. Trial and error. Ill have to pull this amp out of storage and start playing it again. Wonderful little amp, so may shades of overdrive.
That's my advice, i liked your video because it's the only unofficial with good range of tones.
the review is ok... good the end... maybe too much talking :) if you have the time you should make a demo video because all the features of this beautiful amp are already well explained on the website (you could put a link) and play some classic tunes with some classic sounds like zeppelin, ac/dc, hendrix... and all you want to put in... explaining only the setting you are using on the guitar and on the amp and the eventual effects...
What's a tonerite?
yeah your videos are very low volume
I didnt bias with the tube swap. Actually never even came to mind at the time. Since this video Ive swapped the 12bh7a for a 50's brimmer and it sounds even better. I cant say enough good things about this amp. It sounds great from crystal clean all the way up. The mixer is a berringher 1622 has s USB for direct recording with my webcam. You got me thinking about this so Im going to pop the back and have a look for a bias pot. Mostly though, Im glad the video helped in your search.
Blackstar says that their amps 'self-bias' due to a chip that regulates the amount of load that is placed in the preamp section... Did you have to bias after the tube swap? And if so, what was involved (after removing the amp from the enclosure and opening her up, of course)? This vid is what sold me on this amp... After a LONG search... I think this is the one for me... Everything from Blues to Metal. Yes! One other question... Which mixer did you use for this recording?
This demo was recorded with the stock tubes, since then ive swapped them out for a gold pin jj and a 1950s brimmer. Ill post another video because it sounds even better. Beautiful amp.
It sounds awesome! I tried one of these yesterday and it sounded kick ass :P
Yes, through the headphone out.
Watch this recorded via the Line Out?
Plush :D
Hello, well manytime i was want to can communicated with you because im really interestig for this guitar Ibanez af84e, so i want to give you a offer for this guitar cos many time ago i am looking can buy this instrument, so PLEASE, send me a email for any information and contact me at the email radoniclucas@yahoo.com and let me see if we can talk about the issue, thanks a lot, and have a nice day, with respect Lucas.
i wish i could hear you a little
@ToxicMembrane Im not sure about the V7212E, Ive never played one. It is an entry level, unlike the AEL. And it does not have any electronics further than a built in tuner. So if you are planning on playing through an amp, or direct into a board, the V72 cannot provide that. Id recommend buying used and spend as much as you can afford. However if it is a choice between the two Ibanez, Id go with the AEL. The difference of 200 on an entry level can make a huge difference.
@morfoo Im going with the blackstar. I have the jet city 20 watt and have several mods and while the jet city does provide a very nice sound, I find it somewhat one dimensional, even with the mods. The blackstar with the headphone out and effects loop would do it for me but I like the sound better, its a more transparent overdrive and has a very nice clean channel. The jetcity dosnt really have any clean sound at all. You can always add gain to clean, but cant add clean to gain.
@morfoo Yes. Always have the head connected to a cab or a "dummy load" of some sort else it can damage the transformer. The manual does not make any note about having the cab plugged in while using the headphone out, but I kept it plugged in anyhow. It simply mutes the cab.
@wisedennis Actually, check out my Ibanez 12 string to really hear what it can do. They cost about 150 U.S. and mine has been on for 13 months now, so they are of excellent quality. I should probably talk to them about endorsement money!
HI Tgg! do u think the Tonerite worth the money? thanks!
@mc85eu My philosophy is that electronics can be changed to sound like whatever pickup and caps you use however its the woods that add the subtle shades of color. The heritage guitar company makes archtop electrics the same way for the past 1000 years, but the guy that hand carves them taps the tops until the difference between the high and low is exactly one octave. My whole purpose of my youtube channel is to help others make educated decisions. Im glad to have sparked an interest.Good luck.
@tgg168 An insightful, interesting response. In my mind, subconciously, I suppose I wrongly thought of guitars without 'bodies' (or a drum) as somehow being fake instruments (!!!). However your mentioning 'acoustic qualities', etc, helps clarify and correct that. I think I shall spend some time on WikiPedia and learn more about 'acoustics', generally. Thanks for your repsonse.
@mc85eu Yes I have used it on all my archtop electrics and also on a couple of my strats. Now sound is so subjective and this is wide open for argument, however a solid body electric has acoustic qualities. The tonerite allows the guitar to settle and allows the woods to age and open up. To further my point is that I never plug in an electric when I buy one, I only play it to hear how the woods sound. I have seen videos of colin james and gary moore say the same thing.
@tgg168 Praise where praise is due. You were banging out some pretty cool finger style on that 12 string... I'm a little bit of a novice in this area: can you explain/suggest why the ToneRite would help electric guitars, please? I can - sort of - see how if would influence guitars that have 'drums' - like your 12-string. However, unless you refer to a semi-acoustic electric, I can't see how it would influence a typical electric guitar - like a Fender Strat, say. Any thoughts? :-)
@mc85eu The tonerite is about 150 bucks U.S. I bought it a year ago thanksgiving it has not been turned off since. Right now Im seasoning a recording king ro-127 that came in today. Ive used it on almost all my guitars, electrics included. Ill post the ro-127 so drop by later. The Ibanez is a very nice 12 string for the price. Thanks for the kind comments.
Excellent video(s). I came to the page looking for info on the Ibanez, but you've unfortunately convinced me to seriously look into the ToneRite too - unfortunate in that I'll be spending more money on guitars, etc, that I can ill afford. Ah, well.
@gruber4613 Dont recall if I mentioned in the video but I was able to try 3 of these at the store and picked the best one. Id recommend doing the same if you can because they do vary in quality.
@slidestring1 Thanks man. One thing I never mentioned in the video was that it plays better as well.
@MichaelAndrewSapp Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Great amp if you are in the market.
Cool guitar / sounds great !
Enjoyed your review of the Ibanez tgg. Look forward to seeing some more. Keep up the good work.
