BMW Z4 Gear knob change
Переглядів 16 тис.5 років тому
I changed the gear knob on my BMW Z4 E85 3.0i 2003. I had the official ZHP M gear knob installed (178 grams in weight) and swapped it for a custom billeted stainless steel knob (561 grams in weight). The new billeted knob (similar in design to that of the Storm Motorwerks gear knob) has three Allen key fit screws that secure the knob tightly. I was sceptical whether this would make any differen...
BMW Z4 E85 STEERING WHEEL SWAP
Переглядів 28 тис.6 років тому
In this video I'm going through every step I took to swap over my old steering wheel for my new one. I encountered a few common issues along the way such as trying to find the springs to release the air bag and also the snapping of some crucial plastic sections. Every issue I encountered I've also fixed, so watch the whole video to find out exactly how I did it.
BMW Z4 Cold induction UPGRADE

Step-by-step walkthrough upgrading the air intake in a BMW Z4 E85 (2003) to the RAMAIR intake with RAMAIR rubber connecting pipe. This installation still requires a heat shield and bracket to keep engine heat away from the intake and hold the intake in place, but the car has been run without the bracket for a week or so with no discernable shift in place (it's very rigid). Links here: RAMAIR ai...
Great video....hoping to retrim my steering wheel at the weekend and this is a great help. Cheers
How completely useless
How completely useless
i need to replace my steering angle sensor do you have a video of doing this
Good stuff, this video 💪🏻 My Zed started to honk the horn randomly when turning right, so had to dismantle the wheel to get to the horn switch assembly. This showed well how to get the airbag off.
Got my wheel back. It's a must modification in my opinion The car feels proper now at least from a steering perspective
Great video. Thanks 🙌
Perfect step by step guidance. Thanks for making the video.
좋은 영상 감사합니다~! 많은 도움이 되었습니다~!😃
Looks awesome
Thanks a lot, you helped me get those stupid airbag clips off after failing for an hour...
Glad it helped :)
Great module but slightly expensive 😕
I think it's worth it for the money. Mine cost £95 roughly
What is this Gaptech RCH+ module you don't speak of?
Is there a link to this steering wheel somewhere?
What performance in’s creases did you see? How does this affect reliability?
I never dyno'd before or after so I can't speak about performance. Felt like it picked up quicker in lower rev ranges but that could be psychological. One thing I did notice though was my mpg went up by about 2-2.5 from 25-27.5mpg so a bit more fuel efficient.
Looks fantastic, where did you purchase the replacement wheel though please?
why didn’t put the "M" steering wheel?
It isn't an M car, and I'm not a fan of sticking M badges on non-M cars. Plus I just wanted to use the existing wheel.
@@jamandjarff the M steering wheel is thicker and more comfortable.
@@МайкЙёбба-ц8ь I have no idea if that's true or not, but M wheels are about two to three times the price
Where did u get that new steering wheel I have to get that!!??
Royal Steering Wheels in the UK
what would happen if you did the live first
Awesome video. Thanks so much. I got my wheel out in no time however I did break a couple of clips on the plastic trim but I think it'll be ok. Thanks again. Cheers, Aaron
Yep those suckers will snap easy. Plenty of araldite will get them stuck back on with no probs, just make sure they're not wonky because refitting them when wonky will cause them to snap back off. You're better using an epoxy glue rather than superglue because superglue is brittle and snaps, whereas the epoxy, I found, was stretchy
@@jamandjarff Just recovered the wheel with a stitched suede cover. Now to encourage the trim back on. Will post a video with reference to your video regarding removal. Cheers, A
Really good video 👍
Why in the world would I want to do it myself?
Luca Ecari why not
Some people love doing little DIY jobs on their cars, others have to out of budget restrictions.
This channel died rathe quickly
Should’ve kept the M knob on mate
This video helped me soo much, thanks mate 👌👍
No probs, glad it helped!
Any plans to update this?
hi there, i have the same model z4 as you. Im interested in purchasing a oem steering wheel with the multi functioning buttons and was wondering if it is actually possible to retro fit that steeing wheel on this model? Currently my steering wheel doesnt have the multi-fucntioning buttons so im wondering if it will actually function?
I'm not too sure as I haven't done this - best checking the forums to see if anyone else has done it (if it can be done, they'll have done it) Z4Forum is my go-to
I fitted this same filter on my 2003 Z4. to view the heat shield and stabilizer bracket click here, zroadster.org/threads/my-z4-my-way.12732/
excellent vid, very thorough and a great help. I'm about to do this, why did you remove the spoke covers before removing the wheel, wouldn't it be easier with the wheel removed?
That's right, but I sprayed the trim before deciding to change the wheel I think
Where did you get the replacement steering wheel?
Royals steering wheels in the UK
Did you install a mount
I have the Storm Motorwerks V2 knob and they make so much difference 👍
Wondering if you know what colour your wheels are I have the same car and really like the colour of your wheels ??
Carbon grey!
Excellent tutorial, thanks for sharing.
Cheers Jeremy!
Looks very good! I’m buying an 06 Z4 tmrw and I can’t wait!
Nice video mate! Where’d you get the new steering wheel?
Royal steering wheels refurbed it!
Nice video mate
Thanks David!
