The VT 5 litre V8 Commodore was more sluggish than the previous models because it's a heavier car meaning that the 179 kilowatt Holden 5 litre V8 engine will feel slower than say the 168 kilowatt VS Commodore with the 5 litre V8 engine fitted. I don't know about the 5 speed manual transmission but the T56 Tremec 6 speed manual transmission sits on a taller transmission mount because they have a boomerang shaped transmission mount in the VT2-VZ2 V8 Commodores since the rear transmission mount sits further back in those models which have a manual V8 powertrain fitted. With your car there should be words cast into it which tells you which way to fit the transmission crossmember for the manual V6, supercharged V6 & V8 cars as well as the automatic cars. That crossmember will not fit a Commodore which is fitted with the Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine & 6 speed manual transmission at the factory,if I am not mistaken you appear to have fitted the T5 Borg Warner 5 speed manual transmission & not the Getrag 290 5 speed manual transmission. As far as bleeding the clutch goes,if it's like the T56 Tremec transmission which it's probably not , just crack the bleeder open on the passenger side of the transmission, pump the clutch pedal a couple of times then close it off then it's fully bled. In 2008 I took 2 VY SS Commodores for a test drive & the first one was the stock 235 kilowatt model which still ran the 3.46:1 diff ratio,it was a bit sluggish to me,I didn't end up buying it because by the time I got my loan approved that car was on the local Holden dealers used car lot, the car was privately on sale prior to that. The second car was a slightly modified 2002 model car which I still drive,it out out 276 kilowatts at the flywheel,it ran a custom press bent headers & custom twin 2.25 inch exhaust system,it had more oomph than the other VY SS Commodore which I drove partially thanks to a diff ratio change to 3.91:1,it has better acceleration than the other car did, the 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine was also dyno tuned to get the extra power out of it. I have since fitted a twin 2.5 inch Redback cat back exhaust system, Genie 1 5/8" mandrel bent tri Y headers & 2 × 2.5 Inch diameter 200 cell per inch catalytic converters,I think that someone tweaked it again in 2019 on a dyno while I got the registration done because it had a bit more get up & go afterwards. When I first fitted the Genie headers there was no change in engine performance & the engine seemed to have lost a bit of bottom and torque. This year my goal is to replace the clutch which is on its way out & build a new diff because the current unit is a bit clunky & it whines a little bit !

I said to my partner if the 4L60E goes bang in our L67 VT Calais, I'm 5 speed manual swapping it, but it's a daily and I drive a hour each way to work in peak hour traffic 😢

Awesome VT Calais! Excellent choice converting to a 5 speed manual. Wheels look great and really suit the VT. Similar to my VT GTS wheels on my VT Clubsport 5L.

I bought a second hand low km V8 spac ute from Holden dealer around 1997. There was a 5ltr factory manual Calais there then for sale. Might have been around a VN or VP. Like to know exactly when they stopped making them.

Enjoyed watching the build. I manual swapped a vr 5L years ago & it was the best thing i done to it was so much more enjoyable. I have also manual swapped my vx ss & again so much more enjoyable as a street car.

That's a mace engineering short shifter. I had one in my VY spac, it made the throw between the gear changes extremely short, took me a week to get used to it

I'll try to dig up my battery strap from my Ss as I swapped mine to the plastic clamp from v6. You can have it if I can find it

Rocker covers...black will make it disappear, red will make it pop

Just recently , I also purchased myself a 1998 Toyota Corolla Conquest hatchback - 5-speed manual 1.8 litre Twin-cam Inline 4. The colour is Purply blue. I do also have quite a few videos of that car on my channel too.

Great video mate. I would love to make mine a manual one day, the auto is to boring with the 2800 stall I have in mine. I painted my rocker covers the same color as the car (raven mica) and the engine covers are hyper yellow. I can't add a photo but it's different and stands out
