Best Quick Layover in Hong Kong - Ngong Ping Lantau Island Full Experience

I only had a few hours to go see Hong Kong before I had to make it back to the airport for my flight to Beijing. I decided to focus on doing 1 thing that I thought would be worthwhile. I definitely made the right choice! Going to Ngong Ping on Lantau Island was amazing! The bus was easy to figure out from the airport, and the "crystal" 360 degree cable car was an amazing experience! The fact th...

    Hey Ed, do you think its worth doing the Middlebury program or travelling to china for 7-8 week classes? What motivated you to do the Middlebury program instead?

    • @EdVenturesVlog
      @EdVenturesVlog 10 місяців тому

      I've done less intensive classes in China twice. One was a 3 month program and one was 6 months. The Middlebury Chinese immersion summer program was better than both of those. The reason I say that is because you are in a 24/7 Chinese environment. All of your activities, meals, your living environment, everything is all in Chinese. When I was actually in China, I found it difficult to actually befriend Chinese people and spent most of my time with other foreigners. If you care about learning the language as fast and efficiently as possible, go with the Middlebury summer program, if you want to experience China itself then go there. You get exposure but it's not as intense as Middlebury. And it is INTENSE. Middlebury is not for the feint of heart or those who aren't really committed to learning Chinese.

I'm guessing that she was looking for drum and bass music for the intro and came across this video mix of songs. (Notice the other songs that are on her intro after Everybody Dies) It's from 2017, so it's been around for a bit. I think you have to have a reason to want to do an immersion in a language. It is intense but worth it. Some people in level 1 want to challenge themselves and think is cool Language other have more serious reason since as improving to work in China or finding there roots.

    • @EdVenturesVlog
      @EdVenturesVlog 4 місяці тому

      The acceptance rate is high if you're willing to pay full price lol. (I don't think they really turn anyone away) There are some scholarships but VERY few and far between and competitive. That being said, I'd recommend applying anyway cuz you never know! I think they value people who they see as impressive who will go in to do important things/have already "overachieved" a lot and have a personal and powerful connection to the language that would make them stand out. It's alright brother. When we were kids (I'm from Rajasthan), many books and people referred to Maharana Pratap as only 'Pratap'. Now it has changed and everyone takes his full name with title. But even back then, there was no intention of disrespect. Intention is what matters, specially if a person isn't aware.

      Yeah, I didn't mean any disrespect. I was simply saying a historical figure's name. I didn't know it was disrespectful to say it that way, I understand some people revere certain historical figures and have specific titles for them but I wasn't aware of these titles and also don't have the same connection and belief of the spiritual nature the locals have. I wouldn't be offended if someone referred to a figure I believed in spiritually simply by their normal name without titles. Part of traveling is learning, and I've learned so much from this trip that I'm grateful for. No one is born knowing everything. We have to experience things to understand them and to understand each other. Much love to all!

    How's your Mandarin today?

      It's probably not as good as it was likenmy last week at Middlebury, but I've been able to retain a lot. I probably forgot about 70% of what I learned, but I learned SO MUCH in such a little time that that 30% is a HUGE improvement. I try to stay consistent with keeping up with studying, if I stop using it, it goes away.

      @@EdVenturesVlog Sounds like it's worth it. Hopefully you were able to link up with other student there, with the goal of improving their Mandarin to keep practicing with. Are you doing any iTalki, Tandem, or Hello Talk for practice? If so, I'd like to practice my beginner Mandarin with you one of these days.

      You'd have to inquire with the Spanish School, but I think it should be about the same.
