Bucking rock maple with an axe part two
One of my best chops of the year as far as progress and a feeling of well-being afterwards. Big deflection @19:14, 19:22, 19:31. Just a difficult section of log. I do not remember having deflection with the TIMBERPILOT at all until today. Ecclesiastes chapter nine verse ten.

Pleasant progress in my estimations. 5,900 total swings on this Casterman TIMBERPILOT axe today. I have been brutal at times. For those just tuning in, I am wearing TheLumberjill chainmail. Axe-bucking the barberchaired rock maple part one, the most accurate axe ever?

Starting on the top and working our way up the tree, we chop a quarter cord in just a matter of minutes. The decision is made to sever the log at about twenty feet. Do take note of the axe deflection (plural), as well as the accuracy. Not sure what you mean by the axe unless you're talking about the hang. Is your swing accurate? Seems to be.
@PATCsawyer You hit the nail on the head sir...your swing is accurate as well...the hang is top shelf on the TIMBERPILOT...appreciate you stopping by and commenting...
I'm having a difficult time with the same thing, tomorrow this system is going down,, until then 😴😴😴
@GregoryMartinez-j2e Mr. Gregory, be confident and think positive. Be careful yet persistent. Success to you in your mechanics endeavor...thank you for watching and commenting...
Nice! I got the X25 and it’s great splitter for everyday use. Thank you for sharing your axemanship knowledge!
@emmanuel.belanger Yes sir, on both accounts Mr. Emmanuel...
I liked how you started the video with your safety briefing and discussion. You should always pause before you start work or play and think about safety. The reason is we all want to go home after. Thanks for the reminder. Love the chopping. Be blessed. My friend.
Mr. Joe, I like the way you think. I am glad you watched sir...

“Costs less than insurance deductible.” This is an excellent argument, It’s tempting to “save” money as a man by avoiding buying protective equipment, but man a trip to the ER could buy a new pair of mail for every day of the week.
@urbanlumberjack I like your comment, Mr. URBANLUMBERJACK...
As a Canadian chopper I can attest, even a free visit to the ER with a little bit of a chopped leg is no picnic so I still plan to get some leggings for myself.
@urbanlumberjack And I like your comment as well, Mr. Keevil...
You are doing a great thing by promoting safety. I want to ask you about shin protection and ask what are the options out there? What do forestry people use? Also, have you ever tested a soccer shin guard? We played/coached soccer when my child was young. Most shin guards are relatively durable.
@sambsialia Good evening Mr. Sam. I direct messaged a USFS project director and asked him the question in an official sense. They are not required to wear chainmail using an axe, but some do. He does occasionally. They are required to use chaps when operating a chainsaw. As to the soccer shin guards, no, I have not. I have seen an axe pierce automotive sheet metal, specifically the hood and roof of Ford F250 pickups. I have witnessed an axe cutting car frames and aluminum engine blocks. I use what Timbersports competitors use because of its proven effectiveness with the most powerful choppers in the world. It is available and affordable. I want the best protection available. Thank you for watching and commenting sir...
Mmm!!! That’s beautiful

@michaelwhiteoldtimer7648 I agree sir...

@michaelwhiteoldtimer7648 Thank you sir...
You prefer it over the tui?
@@MatthewAmsbaugh For long, fast paced chopping, yes. The total weight on this one is 5lb 10oz. My TUATAHI weighs 6lb 15oz. That is considerably heavier for an old guy. You have to keep in mind you are by default on a different level sir...
@ definitely understand the weight difference. One of my training axes is 7lbs 2oz. The other is 6lbs 3oz. I much prefer the lighter one for faster chopping.
I greatly appreciate your axemanship!🙏🏿🇺🇸🪓
Thank you for your great support Mr. James...
Nice! Thats a fair chunk of work!🪓🪓
In my opinion Kurt, that is enough to make a judgement about it's effectiveness and durability. Not an "unboxing" and split some wood with it for 10 minutes....
This confirms one of my unpopular but core beliefs about an axe. A curved handle is nice, but straight handles are stronger and more reliable. Thank you for all you do Mr. Brian!

would you mill with the 385?
Hi Mr. WOOLY, the 385 oils well, has lots of power and has an excellent filtration system. It would be a capable milling saw. This is the last of a fleet of six that were purchased new many years ago. This model was replaced by the 390. The 390 was replaced by the 585/592 platform. Given the choice, I would purchase a new 592 for milling. Power per dollar is high on the 592. I consider it an excellent value... I am glad you are watching sir...
@@Brian2bears over here a second hand 390 / 395 is only 100 cheaper than a new 592 where a second hand 385 is almost half the price, so i was thinking i might get one for milling
@WoolysWorld The 385 is old and had some problems. The build video here shows two different crankcases split. A bad crankshaft connecting rod bearing. I split two cases installing new crankshaft bearings/seals/gaskets. I would avoid the 385. The 395 is a very good milling saw. Buying used saws is a coin toss.
@@Brian2bears 395 is the most recommended saw by far, followed by the 390
@@WoolysWorld If voting...I would choose the 395 with no regrets...above you stated you could buy a 592 for $100 more, that is what I would do...
That is a great axe that's well maintained if it can keep up with you. Great video. Be blessed. My friend.

A 32 inch bar on a 562 is pushing it, 42 is gonna wear that saw out quick
@ua-cam.com/video/-_v9fycE6F0/v-deo.htmlsi=zX3LeqoFUQupKePX
@Rico702 I agree, this is not a run-of-the-mill 562, there is a playlist on that build. A full run video with the 42" bar is there (the title is HUSQVARNA 562 42" BAR...)to demonstrate the power and to dispel certain stereotypes such as hot restarts problems etc. It has been awhile, but I addressed several of those points. Thank you for watching and commenting Rico...
Super!
@brettbrown9814 Ahh...Mr. Brett...
This is one of the slickest tricks I ever seen. I had a 3 inch clip to install in a wheel bearing tried for 2 days with out the necessary pliers. Saw this and got it in 5 min. Thank You, priceless knowledge !
@3rdTrickGang Mr. Brandon...thanks for the view and positive comment sir...
@ You the Man! I live out in the middle of nowhere and parts stores are not readily available and for some reason the one tool I don't have is a pair of snap ring pliers, I was about to break out the welder and try to make my own 😂but you saved me a lot of hassle thanks again!
@3rdTrickGang Humbly sir, zoom in on that snap ring. I am not familiar with pliers that fit this one.
Switching hands evens out the stress of chopping, creates ambidextrous skill, and saves energy. I have done it for years, but I admire Brian's sheer umph! Keep chopping (safely)!

@MatthewAmsbaugh Yes sir Mr. Matt...THELUMBERJILL, very awesome chainmail and tolerates backwoodsmen with the greatest of etiquette...the wood is also well-seasoned, more often than not (knot) I find myself biting off more than I can chew... Glad you watched sir, appreciate your comment...
@ Erin makes great chainmail. Very popular amongst competitors. Also very comfortable. Not only hard, but also dry? That takes quite a bit more effort to get those chips to pop.
@MatthewAmsbaugh While it is the only chainmail I have experience with, it is durable and comfortable, if competitors trust it, so do I. I recently saw a post of hers wherein a person chopped their foot without injury while wearing the product. The shoe was ruined...yes sir, that wood is tough...
