Surface Pro 4 Flicker Repair
Переглядів 11 тис.Рік тому
The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 had a major known issue where the screen would distort and flicker after the unit got hot from heavy use. The only known permanent fix was upgrading the screen to a Surface Pro 5 version manufactured by LG and not Samsung. These screens are compatible with the Pro 4 and the only difference is the ribbon cable that connects to the logic board. If you have this issue w...

Gauge Cluster Board Repair

A local business reached out for a unique repair. This is a dash cluster board out of a 2012 Autocar Xspotter. They are a terminal tractor used to move 5th wheel trailers around. The cluster was illuminating all lights the entire time while the vehicle was on and running. Further investigation led to some decent corrosion on the back side of the board, which corroded several passthrough connect...

What’s the voltage display item you plugged into it called please?
If it’s stuck in, does it mean I broke it? 😬
THANK YOU!
How do i mail in for repair service
I am having this issue with my Surface Pro 4. Can you tell me why a/the new screen from the Surface Pro 5 does not come with its own touch board already attached? Do they just not ship with one or does the touch board to the Surface 5 not work with the guts of the Surface 4? Am I correct in assuming that the old Surface 4 ribbon cable is not compatible with the Surface Pro 5 screen and that is why it needs to be replaced?
i did everything very slow, but key K won't go back up!!!
1:11 Giggity
This guy is like the Bob Ross of keyboard cleaning.
What tape did you use to put the screen back on?
Thank you. i bought used m1 laptop 16gb for cheap and the previous owner didnt clean the buttons (sticky keys) and its like new now. very helpful thank you
Thanks. It worked for me. The old screen was destroyed during removal, but no problem with that. The new screen runs really cool, and no flickering. the only thing that does not seem to work is the "Windows Hello Face" sign-in option, but I'm not concerned about that. It's like a new machine.
Thanks for the video one of the most detailed work of craftsmanship! ❤👍🙏
Thanks for positing this. I did a normal screen replacement a few years ago, but then this issue started happening. I like the Surface pro 4 as it is last device that has a removable nvme. It's ashamed that the hardware is defective.
Hi, do you have a new link for the ribbon conversion cable? Amazon link is broken.

@@alphaboardrepair5285 the product is no longer available
well this definitely made some of my keys 100% worse they won't stay in place when I put them back
That’s because you likely forced them and broke the clips. You have to be very careful doing this. These keys only come off one way as they are designed.
@@alphaboardrepair5285 I didn't force anything. I popped them off gently just like the video.
@@dustinrossg what model M1 MacBook do you have? I as well as many others have done this with no issues. Are you 100% certain you installed the scissor mechanism in the proper orientation? If you have a newer M1 Mac (newer than the A2337) this process may not work. I have not tested key removal on newer macs.
If the key will no longer snap all the way back down and stays kicked up, then the clips are broken on the key itself (black plastic part). It will need to be replaced but luckily those are very cheap to buy. It’s still possible no matter how careful you are to break a key clip, they are just so tiny and delicate. No matter what they only come off one way, so don’t feel too bad if one breaks.
What about m2 air can i remove the keys?
I haven’t had a m2 air in for sticky key repair yet, but I would assume they are similar.
What type and material is the wire made
It’s just copper wire, non coated.
Thank you so much, I fixed my shift key using this video and I was not that soft I did it like a real pro mechanic lol. Though these look really delegate I would say they are made really solid, hard to break them if you have right tools. I took a picture of old setup just in case but its pretty obvious I don't think you can put them wrong way and able to click them so no much worry. Thanks again.
I just took it out of the box a A1990 , but it wont turn on. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
What's the history? any liquid damage? Before applying any sort of power i would open the back case and have a look to see if there are any signs of liquid damage. If you find evidence of liquid damage (stains on the bottom cover, shiny stains on the battery, or corrosion on the board, You really need to take the logic board completely out of the laptop, and have an inline USB-C voltmeter/ammeter to see what the board is drawing after a visual inspection. If you only have 5V on the meter, check to make sure the device isn't in DFU mode or recovery mode. If its not in DFU/recovery (and you have a lock symbol in apple configurator), check for any shorts to ground on the main power rails. At this point you get into checking the power on sequence. Thermal imaging is your friend in finding pesky shorts on rails that power many IC's. If you don't suspect any sort of liquid damage, or see any visually, use an inline multimeter to see what its doing, and check to make sure the battery is not 100% dead. Some computers will not boot if the battery is completely dead.
@@alphaboardrepair5285 It is brand new. No one used it before. It was sitting on the shelf for 3 years. The battery shows 0 volts.
workaround, it will happen aworkaround, it will happen again. The problem is on the samsung lcd screen.gain. The problem is on the samsung lcd screen.
No, it will not happen again. I replaced the screen with a different manufacturer, which permanently fixes the issue. The screen installed is LG from a Pro 5.
Samsung is trash and should've been sued. And I only use Samsung products 🤦🏼♂️
This helped me understand how to do this better!! Thanks so much. You were very thorough and patient and helpful.
You are most welcome!
Great Video On iPad Repair. It's nice to see a good POV to further my knowledge
Please could u help me? I removed some keys that werent sticky but when i try to put them back they all just not pressable as if they sticked
it happened with backspase and some regular keys like control fn option
@@verletzt546 make sure to align the metal bars correctly and do not force anything. If you break the small plastic snaps on the plastic black key itself, it will have to be replaced. Once the snap breaks it will no longer stay attached. Look very carefully and see if anything is broken on the key itself. Also make sure you have the white scissor mechanism installed correctly and not upside down. It will only go in one way.
@@alphaboardrepair5285 So I did the same with a normal key but the hinge/mechanisme broke off because I put a lot of force in it. Do you know where I could find the hinge online? Maybe a website were I can order it?
@@nizarmounib9104 the white scissoring plastic part?

Thank you!!!
i have the same model with the same issue, about how much to repair? i can ship to you
I charge a $40 diagnosing fee to see what the issue is. The total cost varies depending on the problem and level of damage. Expect anywhere from $130-$200 if it is repairable. Price range includes shipping back to you and the diagnosing fee. Check out www.alphaboardrepair.com for more details.
@@alphaboardrepair5285 sounds good! how can we start the process?
That's why, you plugged in to a port that usually isn't used for charging. I have this same problem but I only have the USB-C ports on the left and it won't do anything.
Yeah, ultimately it was the shorted capacitor that caused a short on ppbus. But the usb c connectors definitely played a role.
Thank U a lot man !!! Especially with the shift key!!! Tough as fuck!
Best Video 👌
고미워요!
Very informative content. Thank you. Greetings from the UK
at what temperature did you solder?
I use low temp solder, so around 160C
Does sp314-54n-74a5 have this issue?
Yes but the corrosion can be caused by many environmental aspects, so it may not be located at this particular spot.
UNDER TIM COOK APPLE IS PROFIT MACHINE. NOTHING ELSE. RELIABILITY GONE.
Hey, i have a doubt...why didn't you replace any of the resistors near the corroded region?...
Btw great repair tho...you are following the schematics and testing everything the way it should be
Well, I thought I would need to, but after I cleaned the areas of the corrosion the resistor that was reading incorrectly and causing no backlight was reading on spec again. I need to get an on screen meter so everyone can see that. Sometimes corrosion bridges components and that is all that the issue is. I didn’t have that particular resistor on hand either or else I would have just replaced it any ways. All other resistors read to specification according to the schematics.
Thanks. Fixed my sticky key easily :)
Hi. Could you help me out? I'm out of the country and dont have access to an applestore. I removed the delete key 2 times, because I thought it was sticky. Turned out to be clean. Never figured out the problem. I was able to follow the steps to replace it the first time. However the second time the key stayed flat, as if there wasn't a rubbercup or whatever allows the key to float. But it's still there. What can I do?
Something is bound up in the key. Remove it and try again. Make sure you didn’t install the hinge upside down.
I have the very same problem, dismounted it several times. It only clicks flat. I can´t get it to fit propperly again
@@boomcloser9013 when you disassemble, you must very carefully pay attention to how the components are oriented. If you install them incorrectly you will have these symptoms.
I am not watching a 40 minute video.
Thanks for sharing! You do know there is a skip feature right? It’s a 40 min video because there’s a lot to taking these keys apart, and different keys have different ways to come apart. If you want to see how certain keys come apart then skip around until you find it.
@Delusional K skip to 36:27 for the space key. But essentially yes, it has the metal bars but there’s many more clips.
Thanks for the tutorial! (Just had a sticky shift key and managed to fix it with IPA and an ifixit kit). Shift key back to happy self!
man could you please take this again with the camera actually focused on the keys. its too blurry half the time. Thank you for making the video though!
Yeah, I recorded with a go pro hero 8, unfortunately it's not good for close-ups. I need to purchase a better camera for these purposes.
this was perfect... thanks man
HEy, are you from Nepal? do you know any place that does this and repairs the keyboard in Ktm?
@@romankarki8775 hey bro no I’m from Delhi, India. Actually I tried this and it helped a little but the stickiness came back in a day. So I sent it for servicing to the apple care and it fixed it at a nominal service charge
@@ramanbhandari thank you.
Thanks for the video, just tried it and it works like a charm! Be patient, dont force when trying to get the keys in and out and youll be fine :)

No problem, just go slow and you will be fine. In the event you break a key, they do sell replacements online!
