    JC-77 is complete MAGIC! I had one for many years and totally regret selling it.

    I too have a '77, my girlfriend's grandfather bought it new and played it regularly until he passed and now i've played it daily for the past 3 years. There's a richness in tone that comes out of this guitar that i haven't found in many other acoustics. Whenever i visit a friend and play a little on theirs, I'm always left a bit unsatisfied. Fell in love with this guild immediately the first time i played it.

    • @garrettsguitarden
      @garrettsguitarden День тому

      I am the same way when I play other people's acoustics too. I had a Taylor 814ce deluxe for awhile and kept this over that. It just didn't have the warmth and sound like the guild. I'm glad to see another one around it truly is a guitar that makes me smile and want to play.

    I have a 1967 F30 Sunburst, mahogany back and sides and 1992 D4 NT, spruce top, mahogany sides, arch mahogany laminate back. Love them both. Am looking at a 1977 D25 cherry but it's kind of worn and is going for $600, It does have a pickup added. I think they want extra for the case too. I don't know if the neck is in good shape either. If I can talk them down, maybe I'll be able to get it. Yours sounds great!

      @garrettsguitarden 2 дні тому

      I love mine. It's the acoustic I always pick up and play. It sounds great and plays so well that I can't see playing a different one. mine has a repaired crack around the soundhole and does not hurt it at all. also its been heavily played and has the wear to show it, again doesn't affect it at all possibly made it better because it has that played in feel.

    I have a D25M with fitted pickups. Sounds full and rich. The pickups are small white dots on either side of the pegs. It's a 1977 model, number 161080

      I'd love to see how that pickup system works. that sounds awesome without ruining the look of the guitar. I haven't put one in mine because I can't bring myself to drill a hole in it.

    How do you feel about it having chorus only, do you wish it had vibrato?

    • @garrettsguitarden

      @@RobertNolan I actually don't. I don't use much vibrato, I tend to do that with my fingers. I will plug a delay pedal into it here and there and it suits my needs very well.

      I actually want a jc40 pretty bad. An amazing little amp. It sounds amazing and still has that jc sound it's just newer and probably a little more reliable to be honest. Then again I have been using my Randall rg100 half stack for the past couple months and I love that old thing. It's a crushing amount of power in a dead reliable build.

    Hi Garrett your giving out misinformation, My Guild collection are all the arched back and consists of a 1979 D25 spruce top /mahogany , a 1974 G37BLD spruce top /maple, And a 1973 D25Cherry all mahogany, The main thing you're leaving out is that your 77 has a fat neck and is heavier than the 73 and 74. Furthermore the transition from the All mahogany braced back to the all Mahogany arched back was not early 1973 but was actually in October of 1973. That guitar was only produced for the last 90 days of 1973 that's the model I have. The heavier fat neck D25M spruce/mahogany started 1/1/1974

    • @garrettsguitarden
      @garrettsguitarden 15 днів тому

      My D25m does not have a fat neck. Its actually pretty slim compared to most. And from all I've read guild actually did the transition to the arched back early '73 in all documents I've found and read. I'd like to know what you mean by fat neck. The heel? Or the actual neck? I did a ton of research before making the video on the d25m. If I got it wrong that is my fault.

    Nice video. I have a D25M from the early 80s, that I bought two years ago. Sounds very similar to what I'm hearing out of of yours. It has the LR Baggs Anthem SL installed, which does a really nice job for live performance.

    • @garrettsguitarden
      @garrettsguitarden Місяць тому

      I would really like to install one on mine, I just don't want to drill a hole in the old thing. I usually use a Seymour Duncan woody and it picks the natural sound up pretty well. I play it most of the time in small groups or by myself. It's an absolutely fantastic guitar.

      They can be made into a beautiful playing guitar I've done it with a couple now. This one absolutely could not without major modification. It was unplayable out of the box. The nut was not cut right and the neck had a decent twist on the high side. I would've kept it and modded it if it wasn't so bad right from the start. I actually have a glarry lp I modded to hell and back with locking tuners, upgraded hardware and SD blackout active pickups. It actually had a full sustainer kit in it for fun at one time.

    I wonder how different the JC-40 is from this amp. I played the 77 today and it sounded incredible! The distortion didn't work very well. It cut out after some time playing it. The condition wasn't so great and the store wanted $675. I could get the JC-40 brand new for about that price.

      As far as I know the jc40 is the same amp just scaled down with 2-10s and a stereo 40 watt amp. So it should sound really close. I say go try one out I'm sure you'll like it!

    I had a JC-77. It is a clean tone amp but just a little sterile for me. Dont get me wrong you dont have to worry about tubes..... I sold it and got a Fender vibrolux reverb which i modified removing the circuit board and wiring it with a eyelet board. I was shooting for warmth. A lot of famous bands used them in the 80s and 90s. Keep it. I sometimes wonder I should of kept mine. If you can locate Roland output chips buy them in case of failure...... thanks.....

      It's definitely a keeper for me. I haven't had many issues with it. I do want to perform the anti hiss mod to it but a little nervous about messing with its tone. Lately I've been using my Randall rg100 half stack a lot and the JC has been sitting under its cover though.

    Turned my nose up at them for many years as they were not valve amps, 1980's crappy cheap amps. I played a JC-40 at a local guitar store as it was what they had in the practice room. I never left the shop with the guitar that day, but left with a JC-40. I sold my Fender 65 Twin. The JC-40 covers all my needs. What an amp.

    • @garrettsguitarden
      @garrettsguitarden 2 місяці тому

      I love the JC series it has the most headroom of any amp I've ever owned. And honestly between valve and solid state it really doesn't make a difference to me anymore as long as it has a pleasing sound to my ears. I have been on a 5 watt valve amp kick lately and really even at 5 watts they are insanely loud for a room amp. The JC I can still control the volume. You have the amp I'd like to own the 40 is the next JC I'd like to buy

      The only thing I could think of is that you have to choose what mode it's in from the keyboard itself so that certain buttons work. It usually isn't in mixer mod. I think it's usually in pad mode. Also try turning the impact off then back on before you are in protools

      That is odd. Could you possibly send me a pic of your protools setup in the menu for the impact

      Let me download Ableton and see if I can figure it out. If I can I'll make a video about the setup with it
