Stay well clear of anything to do with three network, it’s the worst in the uk, I kept reporting network issues with my mobile signal in my area, they said they are aware of the problem and going to fix it, I said you been saying that for the last six years, their customer service is rubbish they don’t care about their customers, plus it was always some Indian person not even in this country, my advice is never go with this company, their a lot of people getting rid of their contact, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done is to ditch them.
Will keep an eye open. Thanks for the heads up!
Turn it in to nas
Good option, but is guess there are maybe smaller more efficient options for a NAS?
Great video, very helpful, thank you, I dont have the record option on my Hummax, do you think that means the hard drive is broken, its definitely in there, ive looked.
Hi, possibly, or maybe it's full?
@@Tech-Nerdrome o.k thank you , ill see if its full.
Good Karma putting it up for free.
Thank you!
Not a fan of linux on laptops it eats battery life.
Agreed, however, if you've not got a windows license and want a working computer, it's definitely the next best option! Cheers!
True.
I have a HP 400 G2 Mini in same form factor with an i5 cpu. I installed MacOS Big Sur on mine its basically same spec as a 2018 Mac mini. only paid £15 for mine with CPU
Nice!
Can you do a tutorial video on how to add Nord vpn to the zte router please
Sorry, I've not got Nord VPN to try it with. Thanks for the suggestion though!
with these hp models its always best to keep the hard drive screws(with the blue washer) as thes can can be expensive to get hold of,great work though😁

@Luddyh ;)
very enjoyable video. Many thanks.
I have 2 of these Gigabyte motherboards and 2 of basically the same motherboards but in the smaller form factor and they have run flawlessly for over 10 years. The first two have 2060 supers in them and the smaller form factor boards have 1660 supers. They all run everything from Quake 2 to COD4 and everything in between perfectly. The only reason they are in the Lan room for gaming only is because they are Windows 10 machines, and I pulled them offline earlier this year to keep them running perfectly. I found that as I upgraded my newer PCs over the last few years, I could move the old parts down to these older computers which I think is what has extended their life.
2060 supers?!?!? They have got to be bottlenecked by the CPU's?
@@Tech-Nerdrome You would think so, but these AMD FX chips do a pretty good job, at least on older games like CODWAW and MW. They pump out a solid 500FPS, but I cap them at 333 fps so I can do all the glitch jumps. It's only RTX Quake 2 that won't go past 60fps which screws up a few 100FPS jumps. I have much newer computers with 3090's that don't do as good, but that may be a Windows 11 pro issue. I will add that none of the cores are parked. The 8 cores run full 8 cores, same with the 6 core ones. Another note is, I believe the spec say max supported memory is 16 GBs but 32GBs runs fine and the small form factor boards can run 16GBs instead of the list max of 8GBs. The only time I had trouble was years ago when I ran 2 AMD 6870's in crossfire mode. There was in-game lag, but one at a time worked great.
Hello if you add a phone to the router can you make and receive calls? And would you be charged extra or would it be covered by your unlimited data?
Hi, no, you can't make calls. It is theoretically possible, if three activated it, but they have not. If you were to make calls with the sim, you would be charged, as the sim is only provisioned for unlimited data, not calls. Cheers!
@ thanks I just got mine and was wondering. I have to say that so far I’m really pleased. I found that using a Ethernet cable it doubled the speed. Wi-Fi was about 244 and with the Ethernet cable about 488.
I have three 5g broadband using a smarty unlimited sim it works great, better than virgin fibre and miles cheaper
Guess that's another way to do it! Nice!
Welp, i really need to dig out my asrock 970a-g/3.1
when i tried this router i get problems with wifi. So it is not possible to be on different networks. You cannot, for example, ping a computer that is connected on 2.4 Ghz to another computer that is on the 5 Ghz network. Not or if you are connected via the Rj45 connection. seems to be missing a bridge to 2.4Ghz wifi in the router itself. Note ...all networks come out on the internet.
Not noticed that myself. Have you split the networks into separate 2.4 and 5 GHz with their own SSID? If so, maybe that's the reason? I've had other routers in the past, which I split for various reasons, and yes, the two were treated by the router is separate networks. Mine is still combined, and I have a wifi printer (which is definitely on 2.4ghz coz that's all it has! ) My PCs on WiFi n/ac, so on both 2.4 and 5 as suits have no problem printing to it. Was going to do a follow up video soon, so will investigate further! Cheers!
I have a few old 970 and 990 boards that I'll pull out and screw around with here and there like they're going to get any better over time. Just this morning I was testing one of my first motherboards that was purchased brand new. A AMD FM2+ with a 870K that my brother brought back from China in the early 2000's. I paired it with a GTX 560 ti and was actually able to play some recent games at 720 / 1080p depending on the game. I fell asleep about 3:30 a.m. waiting on some drivers to download. My son got me up this morning and said "dad, your bedroom is hotter than the blue blazes of hell itself? What happened last night??" "I pulled out the old AMD son, it's winter time!" But on a real note I'm glad he got me up. I was using a peltier and it got overwhelmed while I fell asleep and burned out due to the top not dispatching enough heat. I forgot that's what I was originally testing.
The FM (1, 2 and 2+) were probably the first Apus that had useable graphics. Although not really widely adopted, or used, I think we owe them more than they're given credit for. Stay safe with your nerding!
I have a 1 TB that I send to guarantee and send me back a refurbished one. To make the backup I have to enter to the disks mounted on an Ubuntu desktop PC. I don't know how to make it work again as a cloud network. It use montavista Linux on the hardware.
Hi, not had a look at it on a Linux system - good idea though, will maybe take a look soon. Cheers!
Hmm. Just realised I have a three 5g post about 30 meters away. Broadband didn’t occur to me! Probably explains why Openreach has no plans in my area to do FTTP.
I think the masts only have a finite capacity, so depending on the population of your area, other providers will probably be needed at some point.
I have a 4 TB one... Will try this. Cheers!
Good luck!
Very enjoyable video thanks. My brother and I will be building a pc tomorrow from bit and pieces we both had lying around. Sadly the only cpu we have is a Pentium D, everyone's favourite!😂
Have fun! Pentium D - literally two Pentium 4s stuck together! Brilliant! But probably the first dual cores, so we owe them a lot. Good luck with your build!
Pentium 4 6x1 and Pentium D 9xx can, AFAIK, boot the first release of Windows 11. More recent releases raise the limit to Nehalem and AMD's Phenom II series. Not sure when the change happened, though.
@@panthera8286 Good information. Although I haven't used Windows since ME.
The ‘phone socket’ is for Voice over LTE (long term evolution = 4G,5G etc). Not all ISP providers enable it, some in overseas territories do. The older style 4G LTE routers would allow you to use the phone socket for VOIP services, you just have to set it up in the user interface which you access via a web based page (same one you use to access the Wi-Fi settings etc). You will need a VOIP account with a suitable provider. I used Sipgate for some time, but it won’t work now due to an upgrade in the protocols. It’s handy to have a ‘landline’ number and router via 4G/5G at times. You are still reliant on a reasonable and reliable cellular signal though.
is there no work around? like flashing a new firmware or something?
Hi, I don't think so. This has been unsupported for a while now I think.... Cheers!
I have this and a couple of Elite Desks with identical specs. They run any Linux distro perfectly.
10th like
Thank you! Thanks for being part of the group!
something has happened to three broadband we used to get a really good signal but now everywhere i go its got bad connectivity sub 4g the best dropped at worse to 1 mbs im sure its something to do with the 2g - 3g swichoff, when you speak to them all they say is the local antenias are over loaded, what everywhere, and no its not the modem as multiple different brands have the same issue including phones,
We're still getting a good signal, although I have heard that 3 may of "oversold" their services in some locations, leading to the slow down. Hopefully, if that is the case, they'll get on top of it and increase the capacity of those masts. Cheers!
Same here. I got mine over 2 years ago. Was getting between 200-400Mbps for first 18 months, then it slumped to under 150Mbps which they claim is the network average for downloads, then the last 3 to 4 months it has tumbled to under 50Mbps and during the day we have had it as low as 2Mbps! They are useless to deal with. Always put you through to India who just make things up. I've had months of near unusable internet. Just had Vodafone 500Mbps fibre installed which works 😃 My advice to anyone thinking of buying is avoid if you have a smart home or download heavy/gaming files. For very light users it might be ok.
The cellular cell capacities have a finite limit, particularly on the number of users it supports and the amount of data they are using. I used to work on the cell systems a few years ago. The closer you are to the mast it will support your connection speed, albeit throttle it under high demand from others subscribers. There is an effect known as ‘cell shrinkage’ where the most distant users will be dropped by the cell first although your equipment will claim enough signal. This is because it can’t support all subscribers at once if demand outstrips supply. You will still be connected but the data will dry up or slow. It will try to ‘hand off’ your connection to another cell, but this is not always possible due to distance and data loads.
On my ps5 i average 2.5-10mbps Download and 1-6.5 upload speed , the area im in dosent have 5g only 4g and not best signal the box varies too 1-2 bars on box is there anything i can do?
Hi, unfortunately, probably not. If you are in a poor reception area, then that is going to limit you. You maybe better off getting a standard fibre connection if available? From one of there many providers - plusnet, sky, talk talk etc etc. In the meantime, have you tried moving it around to different window sills pointing in different directions? Cheers!
This still seems futuristic and modern to me! 😂
Can you put a list of the upgraded parts you used?
Hi, it was 2x8gb (16gb total) Samsung M471A1K43CB1 PC4-2400T SO DIMM, HP part number 854916. The SSD was just a standard 2.5 inch SATA drive. Cheers!
Thanks!
No problem!
Question 1) Do I use my pre existing Three sim card ( which I pay 20 euros/month for unlimited 5g)? or does it come with brand new Three sim card? 2) If I don't get decent 5G speed inside my house through the existing sim card, what are the chances the broadband might increase it?
Hi, it comes with a different SIM card as it has it's own tariff. If you can't get decent 5G speeds with your current 3 5G SIM, I'd guess this would be the same as it's using the same network, unless you're phone has a poor aerial / faulty. Cheers!
@@Tech-Nerdrome Thanks for the clarification. My phone just works fine if it's on a window. Otherwise inside the house it just bad. Maybe I'll consider of getting the broadband.
@@pranjalvaity.406 if the phone works ok on a window sill, should be ok, as you can just permanently put the router there. I think there is a 30 day cancellation period if o it doesn't work anyway. Cheers!

Very pleasing video. I enjoying the way it was edited. I too endorse the taking it apart and reassembly fix 😂
Thank you! Yes, solves 98% of problems! Maybe! 😂
I ve been using Three s 5G Home broadband service for the past 2 years and I can say I m pretty happy with it. Signal between -78 and -85 dbm. Speed is more that what VDSL could ever offer, next upgrade would be full fibre when citylink decides to connect my building to the network.
Thanks for the comment. I guess you're end of contract if it's been 2 years. How are Three when it comes to contract renewal? Do they give a good deal, or force the cost up by not offering deals the second time? Cheers!
@Tech-Nerdrome my out of contract price is the same as during contract, so I m not even gona bother renewing it. They ve over sold 5g here and can't get new contract even if you wanted to. Good thing is speeds are still good. Maybe they will upgrade the mast so they can take new customers in
I get 800mbit down, 80 up using it. There is one major issue with it though, which is it uses a small MTU size. That causes problems with games and some other software.
@BlatentlyFakeName maybe that was the reason for my issues with ubisoft and remote desktop software? - see my 3 month follow up vid. Cheers!
@@Tech-Nerdrome You can get around it by changing the APN on the router to use their mobile phone network, which for some reason use a normal sized MTU. But then port forwarding doesn't work.
So can i use an ethernet connection with my consoles and pc?
Hi, yes, there are two gigabit RJ45 sockets on the back for wired network, that would work fine for consoles and PC. Also, on PC, all game services have been running / downloading fine (steam, ubisoft, epic etc ), so nothing seems to be blocked like it sometimes was with mobile-based broadband of the past. Cheers!
i havent ran across this issue BUT i did buy a motherboard for a computer before and the bios was locked... but since it was an older dell optiplex all i had to do was move a jumper on the motherboard to fix it!
I got a free HP workstation that didn't work. I had to replace everything apart from the case. Lots of fun though 😂
On the plus side, you got a free case then! :) always good!
@@Tech-Nerdrome absolutely, it was an all steel case too. Heaviest computer case I have seen since the 80s!
Maybe try putting a modded Windows 10 called Tiny10 23H2 on it. Should work without too many problems. It has almost no bloatware. If that does not work you can also try Ghost Spectre 22H2. Both of these are light do not install updates automatically which could help with the autopilot situation.
i swear hp devices are the most unreliable computers ive ever used, they always break down, but maybe they actually make bussiness class stuff to some quality
In HP's defence, I don't think this is to do with them directly, more of a Windows / forgetting to take it off an asset list thing! Cheers!
can't you reset bios or something to turn off autopilot? BTW, need to work on audio, too quiet and quality is very bad.
Nah, I've tried resetting, and even deactivating the TPM - no luck. Sorry about the sound - yeah, had to record in a different location to normal, which was probably the issue!
Maybe a web browser or media server.
{ RED - Neck } engineering for computer's. Make everything you have work together even though it wasn't designed to work together at all.
I get on average 500-600 mbps! I’ve had up to and over a thousand! I do have a 5g mast about 100 meters away in direct sight,so I’m guessing that makes a huge difference. I couldn’t be happier.
Wow! I thought they capped it at about 300. Nice. Yes, been just over a month now, and very happy.
I've seen just over 900mbit on a good day. I'm about 300 meters from the tower. Usually it's 5-700. There are down sides though. The MTU size on their network is quite small and causes issues with certain things. Some online games and VPNs won't like it. For the £20 it cost me (gone up to about £21.50 now!) it's a bargain. If you want these speeds on fibre it would be double that.
@@BlatentlyFakeName wow, I thought there would be some sort of capping.... I guess not!
Iv just orderd 1 iv got a 5g mast 100 feet away lol

Also had to dremel apart the motherboard tray and add hot glue globs to it to serve as makeshift standoffs. Also i had to hot glue in the front IO from the a6000 to where the rest of the front IO was as I couldnt be fucking bothered reverse engineering it and using more DuPonts on it. Its not a very good computer, but its fine. Its like that computer from CS Office, the "Beefy Computer" that looks like a Dell but with some impossible Internals Specs: AMD Athlon II X2 240 3 GB DDR2 Micron Memory AMD Radeon HD 7470 500 GB Seagate Video HDD DVD-RW/RAM Drive Sound Blaster Live! Value Sound card (Dell OEM) HP Pegatron M2N68-LA (Narra5) Motherboard Windows XP and Debian 12 Installed
The proprietary fan connector on the dell board is still just a PWM header with a pointless extra pin (it's not even used for anything). One can easily adapt it to a standard 4pin PWM connector (easier still if you have a dell fan kicking around to cut the connector off of) instead of using junk molex fans with zero ways of controlling them. Throwing "dell fan header pinout" at your favorite search engine helps. Also 7:23 just re-pin the front panel connector instead of buying adapters. it's not rocket science. As for what to do with it... turn it into the worldst most ghetto Hackintosh maybe? Probably needs an older version of OSX though. Can't tell you how far back you need to go for that as I throw everything older than 6th gen intel at the e-waste container cause I have no room to keep all of that old junk
¡Salud! Hi there, Sorry, I have struggled to find any information on that PC, in particular it's motherboard. Even if it uses standard ATX parts, that PC only had a 350W PSU, which maybe geared more towards 3.3V and 5V as was normal at the time. The PSU may struggle to provide enough 12V amps to modern CPUs, not even thinking about a GPU!, so if the case is standard ATX, pretty much all other parts would need to be replaced...... Cheers!
@@Tech-Nerdrome Agradezco tus comentarios espero poder mostrarte en un vídeo este equipo, para mostrar mi reliquia pues fue un pc muy útil pero limitado . The power-supply expenditure justifies a coule of sticks of 50p 4GB RAM to make it 8GB. An HBA for 2 SATA ports per PCIe 1x slot allows more drives. Therefore squeezing in between 5 and 8 old HDDs _(preferably identical such as 2.5 inch xbox360 HDDs)_ allows for BTFRS or ZFS _(much of the work for which is done in RAM)_ which allows snapshots. Even if that boot drive remains that HDD of a different type, the other 4 to 7 Drives could be the ZFS _(or BTRFS pool)_ whereby 1 or 2 drives are for indexing and the rest are for data. This then gives this PC a different reason to exist and that is to put a linux or BSD operating system on it which does not get so much attention _(like say T2-ReneRebe-Linux or GhostBSD or OpenBSD)_ and then make a small contribution in quids to let them know you are using it (like telemetry)._ Then use some basic software in it for a easy task _(e.g. GIMP software to convert a JPEG of a wildlife photo into greyscale once a month or instead use software LibreOffice to keep a spreadsheet of your fantasy-football team or highscores of a super-tux-kart game or whatever very easy 'task' to update once a month for a few minutees or perhaps use BibleTimeESword),_ and ensure you run updates and make snapshots before you do. Then tell everybody you are doing it. For the rest of the month power-down the machine _(or leave in in a low-power state)._ The point is however that, once a month, for a menial task, you are technically using the PC and also the quids that were once given and the 'advertising' for the operating-system allow update and user-statistics to keep the OS of choice going at very little effort to yourself. Every now and then as an "extra" either in a video for 30 seconds at the end or as a written post on the operating-system community site, mention how the computer is behaving since updates _(with a time and date stated)_ even if it is simply _"working-fine-as-usual-each-month"_ One last thing is to put a RCD (Residual Current Device) or multiple-gang-socket with circuit-breaker safety in it just to keep it going out of caring for the person who writes that OS. My comment has no hate in it and I do no harm. I am not appalled or afraid, boasting or envying or complaining... Just saying. Psalms23: Giving thanks and praise to the Lord and peace and love. Also, I'd say Matthew6.
Definitely a potentially good use for it. Not sure I can justify a "big-box" PC to do that though unfortunately, as space is a bit of a premium.....! When I build PCs I generally either have to get rid of them quickly (Sell / give away), or break back down into parts for more efficient storage :(
@@Tech-Nerdrome Solely a suggestion here: Just in case you do give it away _(and BTW 4GB RAM will do, even though 8GB is significantly better, especially for the 50p price of sticks),_ you could perhaps give it away to a person with such an OS already installed on it _(like those listed above or one form perhaps the FSF Free-Software-foundation page like Trisquel OS based upon Ubuntu or an i3 OS on the FSF site like Hyperbola)_ as ask that recipient person to do the few-quid-given thing. There are a bunch of web-browsers _(of varying licences, proprietary or Free-Open-source-Software)_ that could be installed on it before handing it to them like Chrome, Edge, LibreWolf, Gnome-Web, Ladybird, Vivaldi, Opera, iceweasel _(or firefox ESR with Thunderbird for RDF-Site-Summary feeds and say Claws-Mail),_ plus some other free softwares like say BSD license, Apache License and GPLv2 (and GNU concepts) or MIT such as OBS-Open-BroadcastStudio, Tomcat server, and Squid (Foundation) Server, PuTTY-FTP, 7Zip, GRSync, GNU Radio _(perhaps mentioning LoRaWAN),_ Ghost4LinuxG4L _(and Avogadro, Gnumeric, Abiword)._ Pre-installing Slackware _(with slackbuilds, and slackpkg configured and nix and NDISWRapperWifi for 32bit XP wifi drivers on some older 802.11 'g' or 'n' PCI-card or USB-dongle)_ for them could be an option, although whatever the Linux operating system _(other than maybe if using UFS for BSD)_ setting up CUPS and SANE with tesseract-OCR and GuvcviewCheeseCamera software and DVD+RW-tools and Brasero and blueman for bluetooth 2.1 for A2DP and EDR dongles, handing them a system image _(done twice in G4LGhost4Linux in multiple 2GB chunks as tar gzip files, two per DVD)_ on DVD-R disks in case they need recovery of the drive, and let the file-system be say XFS for snapshots, with SWAP space somewhere, even if an extra HDD has say ReiserFS. Having XFCE and KDE desktops (with Gnome) as options on startup can give the end-user some choice and a window-manager too. Then on that, all their ALSA sound settings are done and jack-audio and extra network (wifi perhaps) set-up like in the 'etc' directory, so in the rc.d the rc modules would have had your manual edits for the network devices. You could have WiresharkSoftware too. Vimwiki could be on there too with translations plugin addons for multiple languages. The idea would be that they get to have the nice caring thing to do to help the OS coders of their choice _(be it a BSD OS or Linux or OpenIndiana, whatever)_ and yet the PC is done for them when it is handed to them. If they have a M-F-A security hardware key for USB _(and those usually have RFID near field contactless),_ that too could be done for them and they can choose if the ever want to use OpenSSH and PuTTY or learn about a TTY session or BASH using fstab for USB mass-storage-devices via online documentation. My comment has no hate in it and I do no harm. I am not appalled or afraid, boasting or envying or complaining... Just saying. Psalms23: Giving thanks and praise to the Lord and peace and love. Also, I'd say Matthew6.
