looks nice
hello bro
Waddup
Great!
Just what I'm looking for. Im thinking on change to Linux, but looking games that works on it, seems painful. But with this vidio you show me that some of the works
Sweet. There are two websites that are useful for checking what games work or some fixes if you come across an issue www.protondb.com the other is to check if there are any issues regarding anti-cheats areweanticheatyet.com
Just a quick question, how did you get the game to load, on Steam with the latest compatibility layer on Proton it gives me an issue with the compatibility, would you let me know how to get it up and running if there's any quirks, I see a lot of people over the years have issues with running it.
I use proton experimental for this game. I have not had issues playing this game so far but looking at www.protondb.com/app/306130 Other individual have indicated it runs good under linux. My Fedora set up can be found here ua-cam.com/video/j0u1wkYGD3E/v-deo.html 30:39 is where I go through changing the proton version and also the launch codes that I use for my games.
Uso o Linux ubunto, heroic game loucher , e o jogo pela épic, instala pelo loucher mesmo ?
Yes you can install your epic games using the heroic games launcher
nice
Hello! Does this game still run on Linux? Didn't EA add an anti-cheat? like in Battlefields?
I will check after work to confirm, I have struggled to find a multiplayer game due to being in Oceania. EA’s anti-cheat is not listed on Steam for this game according to SteamDB steamdb.info/tech/AntiCheat/EA_AntiCheat/
Game still works and I am currently in an online lobby waiting for 19 people, hopefully you have more luck with multiplayer in your part of the world.
thanks for the video. it's nice to see what the installation sequence looks like for you. There are a few new things for me. Regarding Star Citizen (according to the forums also in some other games): there is a bug under Wayland where the mouse goes crazy in ingame menus and you can't select properly. Do you also have this bug? I had the bug under Fedora 40 KDE and now under Fedora 41 Gnome. I am still looking for a solution as I would like to stay with Fedora... Many thanks and best regards
It is related to gamescope. I don’t normally use gamescope because I don’t like the menu being fullscreen but when I turn it on I get this bug. To fix this you need to delete the user folder, I suggest using the LUG found here github.com/starcitizen-lug/lug-helper Under “maintenance and troubleshooting” you will see the option to delete your user folder keeping characters. Then set up gamescope to what you want to use before launching the game and you will be good to go.
I forgot to add make sure you enable the “relative mouse mode” for gamescope as well.
Greetings fellow Fedora 41 gamer!
How ?
Both the Linux community and Valve. If you are running Linux in Steam turn on the compatibility and for a lot of games you are good to go.
That's indeed some linux gaming if I ever saw some.
How did you menage to run it? After installing cs2 it says that update files are corrupted
I ran this in the flatpak version of Steam. The game would not run for me under the native version.
@@NiZVicious thx. It turns out cs2 didn’t work for because my gpu doesn’t support Vulkan
Does playing this game on Linux perform better than Windows?
I did not test this out on Windows. I have read a few reviews about the game and on Linux the game loads faster but performance is identical to windows.
@@NiZVicious Ok thanks for answering, i hope your channel grow bigger
Nautilus, gnome software, system monitor, gnome tweak dont open. :(
I have never experienced this, is this on Fedora 41? You could try reinstalling gnome. docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/switching-desktop-environments/
No 1% lows? Averages mean nothing if your 1% lows suck.
i have smilar rig but my game gives network error in loadout screen. im suspicious about easy anti-cheat may not be working.. i have tried both Heroic and Lutris got same results all helps appretieted.
For any easy anti-cheat issues I go into the games folder, delete the EAC folder and then verify the game. It will download easy anti-cheat again and install it on first boot. I have not had this error, however, I have not been able to play much because I cannot find a game due to when I am able to play games which is not a Linux issue as I have tried in both windows and Fedora. I hope you have been able to resolve this issue.
Ow wow I did know it was on steam native for Linux. Will go there now and buy 🙂
Wow looks cool im gonna install this
Have you dove in, yet? I'm contemplating wiping for Linux. But can't wrap my head around everything. For PC, I'm good. Steam, NMM, click download on the page, done. How does this work? I use Stardew native, use NMM native and NMM figures out how to write the Windows mods or am I now looking for Linux specific mods?
I did make a video messing around with the mod manager here ua-cam.com/video/1liBohCXWbE/v-deo.html I have not played around with Stardew Valley too much more as I was hoping to play multiplayer but times have not lined up just yet and I have now seen that it has been 2 months… but the manager can be found here github.com/Nexus-Mods/NexusMods.App/releases The only mod manager I have had to jump through loops with which I have not looked at in a year is Assetto Corsa.
good video! very cool, i’ve been wanting to use linux but was scared when i thought my favorite games wouldn’t work
It has been amazing what works. GTA 4 runs amazing I mostly play it on the Steam Deck. Please be aware that for GTA 5 Rockstar recently implemented an anti-cheat which stopped Linux players being able to play online but one can still play the GTA 5 campaign. Valve was in discussions with Rockstar as the anti-cheat used can run on Linux if the developer allows it but I haven’t seen any updates regarding any changes.
Was good gaming on then they updated now xbox hand controller will not work grrrrrrrrr
The game itself? You could use the steam to remap the controller steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3219265167 If it is your controller you can use some projects I use this one for my Xbox One Elite controllers dongle github.com/medusalix/xone
When this game came out it was really problematic in Linux, I'm glad to see that it isn't the case anymore!
this is coral island 1.0 or 1.1 ? i would like to try with ryzen 8600G
It is 1.1 :)
nice, but i still dont have the compatibility option on this one either. it doesnt appear to me.
It should show up installing using the native package for your distribution or using the flatpak. If you are not seeing it using one maybe you could try the other? If you plan to play something like Counter-Strike 2 flatpak is generally the best way to go anyway. More information on this can be found here steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2615011323
theres not compatibility option on my steam why?
how did you install it?
i mean i know how, but it didnt work on debian, does it work on redhat (fedora) without any problems?
At the time I was able to just install it but had to use proton experimental but now I see that does not work for everyone. When it does not work one will have to try the following: To install the game EA launcher some people have had to change proton to 6.3-8. After the EA Launcher installation you stop it using Steam change to the latest proton and then launch it to install Sims. I had found this information here: www.protondb.com/app/1222670
I got the game running quite well with proton, but it will mysteriously close the game after a while. How do you install wine-9.15 staging for Heroic? I only get th eoption for TKG and GE. Both give horrible performance.
Hey it is just wine. In Fedora in terminal one would run “sudo dnf install wine” and under the wine settings you can change it to wine-9.15 also under the other section in settings I have “use GameMode” on. For other distros you can find more information here www.gloriouseggroll.tv/how-to-get-out-of-wine-dependency-hell/
Hey, can you upload more of off the grid? would be cool, so yeah
Sure I can do more, I will over the next few days depending on work and how long it takes to get into a game in my part of the world haha
@@NiZVicious Well they added sooo many new servers in the early acess. Shouldnt take that long... right? Btw idk why but the game keeps freezing and crashing when i leave a match. Is it the same with you too?
Yeah it is over ten minutes for me when I try I am assuming due to lack of people on in my area (Oceania). I will see how it is Friday and Saturday evening as that is when most people are usually playing games. I cannot comment on any crashing or freezing yet as I have not played enough but so far I haven’t had any issues.
@@justateenager7 I get the same on Wine-GE. On Wine-staging the game will crash just at the beginning of the match. Same with proton.
Interesting. If all else fails I usually drop back to GE8-26.
Whaaaat I have a similar rig and can barely get 40 fps.
This is my process of setting up my system if that helps ua-cam.com/video/Bc0C7agIIvU/v-deo.html
@@NiZVicious Installed latest wine-staging and wine-mono. Game runs ok now.
There should be an Apex Legends, runs well on Linux .
It should, but I have been wary of games that ban Linux players so have not played it yet which is why it was not on this list.
@@NiZVicious played it for 3 months. since 2 days ago linux users get blocked by the anticheat :( a shame since the game was really nice. just sold all my EA shares. Fuck off !
Based. This kind of extensive testing deserves more praise.
this is a game i was worried about not being able to play on linux when i make my move from windows. there is almost no loss in performance if any at all. i use custom gamepad settings through steam is that something that works on linux or would i have to go back to keyboard and mouse?
You’re good to go with Steam input in Linux as well. You could export your config to the community in Windows and then import it when you are on Linux that way it would save you some time. This guide includes information on Steam input if needed www.howtogeek.com/with-steam-input-you-can-play-any-game-with-a-controller/
😂
there is something seriously wrong with Cinnamon (Wayland?) and stutter 10:27
Yes, that is under Wayland experimental. A few others do stutter a bit but yeah that one was very obvious.
gr8 bench thank you for the share, btw can you please add your launch option for games?.
I use “gamemoderun %command%” for my games, there are some that I have had to use other options for but I include those in the description. Information regarding gamemode can be found here github.com/FeralInteractive/gamemode
@@NiZVicious yes, i know gamemode and i use it with mangohud for monitoring..etc, i just want to know your launch options thats it, anyway thank you.
Did you have any issues getting this game to work with proton? Did you have any issues getting into multiplayer servers and did you experience any lag spikes*?I want to swap to Fed silverblue but the thing holding me back is the potential work squad might need to play properly. *These have been happening more and more since the latest update [8.2] there have been numerous lag spikes, just curious if fed 40 has introduced more, less or is just the same. EDIT: Also, how was the sound fidelity? Fedora sound drivers leave a lot to be desired.
I have not needed to put any work in just installing Steam then turning on Steam play to install the game running it with Proton. I have not any issues with this game on my Desktop with Fedora 40 or playing this on my Steam Deck. However. I do not have many servers to choose from where nearly all of them are Australian. I don’t have any issues with the sound personally. I use a Sennheiser GSX 1200 with my desktop and Openruns with my Steam Deck. But I have not run this game under Windows so have no comparison in that regard. You could try dual booting and testing it out for yourself. I hope this was helpful :/
Can i just know what made you pick fedora as base instead of ubuntu, arch etc.. By the way i have similar specs as you i7-14700k 7800xt asus rog strix z790-a gaming wifi II and 64gb ddr5 ram and i don't get those results on fedora i must be doing something wrong.
Fedora was my first operating system so it just feels like “home” and I have believe it is very stable. It is on my gaming PC for this reason as I do not tinker that much anymore and when gaming I just want to boot and go. I have distro hopped a lot over the years but always have come back to Fedora. However, I do run Arch on my 2011 Macbook Pro and Redhat 9 on my 2012 laptop for when I want to mess around. My Fedora set up is here ua-cam.com/video/Bc0C7agIIvU/v-deo.html Your system is newer than mine, I would have expected them to be better than what you see here.
Hi, fellow FOSS enjoyer! How did you get the top left overlay? It looks a lot like Riva Tuner Statistics Server.
It is MangoHud github.com/flightlessmango/MangoHud There is a GUI which helps one set this up found here github.com/benjamimgois/goverlay

Hello. Vivobook 15 (M1502) - AMD Ryzen™ 5 4600H (6C/12T, 11 MB de cache, 4,0 GHz Max Boost) 8GB RAM AMD Radeon Graphics (integrated video graphic card). Fedora KDE or Linux Mint? Which do you think will perform better?
I have found there is little difference between the different flavours of Linux when it comes to performance in games. ua-cam.com/video/UtXw9on6qs4/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/tstJHsbHWME/v-deo.html You can load up both either install either to see how it runs on your system or as a dual boot to find out which one you prefer either the look of or out of the box experience is. If you like the base distro you can install other desktop environments if you prefer a different one such as cinnamon on Fedora or KDE on Mint. As Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu or Debian depending on which version you download there are a lot of ready made packages and support out there without one having to translate it much which can make for an easy starting point.
@@NiZVicious I tested both. I actually installed Mint, but I removed it, because it was heating up my notebook a lot - the fans weren't spinning like they do on Windows - and there's also no way to limit the battery to 60%, as I do through the MyAsus app on Windows. . I didn't install Fedora, I just used the system without installing it, via the pendrive, and had the option to limit battery charging. I saw Fedora's ram consumption and it was practically the same as Windows (at least in this version that we used without installing). I don't know if this is normal, if when you install it on the SSD it uses less RAM. I feel like Asus practically forces users to use Windows, because of the native features of the MyAsus app. Notebooks are a little complicated, because almost everything is "tailored" for the system to work well. Now I really don't know what to do anymore. But thank you for your answer!
Thats awesome you gave them a go. I have found these resources which you may have already come across already asus-linux.org They made Asusctl gitlab.com/asus-linux/asusctl
quake 3 arena has linux support?
Yep, in this case it runs on Linux using Proton but there are other ways to run this game.
mate I am using ubuntu, but I cant see servers I guess its because of anti-cheat incompitabilty and result is infinite loop while searching for servers. how did you fix it ?
I didn’t do anything to fix it, I installed the game and it worked. What you can do is try changing proton to experimental if that does not work try deleting the easy anti-cheat folder and then verifying the games installation and when you click on play you will see it reinstall EAC. While it is automatically installed make sure the proton EAC is installed I believe this is seen under “tools”
Check the server filters
It works smooth. When I load up a new world in Zorin os I get like 500-700 FPS with 16 chunks render distance. I would probably get more on Fedora, but it's already great.
hi. can you show more detials in the mangohud/goverlay setup. Such as gpu freqency and cpu freqency.
Yep, I can do another video with this information tomorrow.
The box of the "confirm form popup" never come out for me :( and my game just crush after the cinematic going back to my Arch SSDM login.😢
Wow, I am sorry that happened to you. If you have not found a fix yet you may find a solution here: www.protondb.com/app/2139460
Something is not right there. My 7800 XT runs the game with almost the same settings with 50-60 FPS... i use windows 11 with a 5800X3D and 32GB RAM. With the latest beta driver, I just turn the Fluid Motion Frames 2 and then the game become more playable with my 165Hz QHD monitor, with over 100 FPS. Anyway, the devs are working on performance optimizations, and the game REALLY need huge improvements.
Neat it exists. However looks terrible
I'm at a point that if a game don't work on linux i just don't buy it or play it. I tried reinstalling windows to dual boot but once i got to post install and realized how long it was to update it multiple reboots and then still have to install drivers and remembering that you have to manually update every software on the pc i said i'm out going back to linux. Once i got used to the way linux works i can't go back now i'm hooked to linux i like having control, customization, update process etc i can't give that up for a game. But i can see how other people might be ok with dual booting.
yeah just make it known with your voice and wallet that we want linux support when they can easily add it
Just curious, are you okay with videos like these being used as background footage in videos as long as you're credited? mainly wondering since you post versions with and without commentary
I was making versions without in case people hated my voice haha. Yeah I am all good with them being used with credit thats awesome.
