Comparative morphology
Welcome to Morphology Madness! In this video, we dive into the fascinating world of comparative morphology, where words are broken down into their smallest meaningful parts-morphemes-across different languages. From the English word "impossible" to the German "unveränderlich," and even the Swahili phrase "nina kupenda," we explore how languages like English, German, Spanish, and Swahili play with prefixes, suffixes, and everything in between.
You'll learn:
How English uses prefixes like "im-" to create words like "impossible"
Why German loves to stack morphemes into long, complex words
How Spanish keeps it simple with its Latin roots
The unique verb structure of Swahili, where prefixes change everything!
If you’ve ever wondered how languages form words, or why "impossible" means what it does in different tongues, this video will break it all down in a fun, easy-to-understand way. Get ready for linguistic tricks, word-building fun, and plenty of morpheme madness! 🎉
📚 Chapters: 00:00 - Intro: What is Morphology? 01:25 - English Morphology: "Impossible" 03:10 - German Morphology: "Unveränderlich" 04:50 - Spanish Morphology: "Imposible" 06:15 - Swahili Morphology: "Nina kupenda" 08:00 - Conclusion: Morphological Comparisons

Colonisms... Also that map sucks! I can forgive Hungarian not being shown as an ancestor of Uralic, due to the graphics. But not showing the Indian branch of Indo-European is beyond reproach.

I could not put a link in the comment, but I added a source in the info-box. You can check it out, if you like!
By the 1200s, extensive trade was reached between the Abbasids (Arabia and Persia), India, and the Song (China) in the Indian Ocean, this trade ended in Zimbabwe, so maybe that
Keep in mind, Austronesian is also associated with the Polynesian expansions; they made their way from Taiwan to Hawaii and Rapa Nui. Austronesians were some of if not THE most accomplished sailors in history!

@@Sujal-ow7cj Maybe I researched something wrong? ( It's my first video of that kind) Open to constructive critic. Can you be more precise what was wrong?
@@Enjoy_Finya not all languages are included and not given same value too
Sure - was "just" a school project and one chapter of many, so I had to keep it short - normally even under 10 minutes - so I even went over the given time by my teacher.
@@Sujal-ow7cj How are they supposed to include every single language 💀
@@rurunosep not just all but can be more ☠ but as she said it a part of many parts of a chapter
