Airplane Hand Prop Nearly Gone Wrong

A man is not paying attention as he is turning over an airplane prop to most likely get the fuel system and cylinders primed to start via a hand prop.

NOTE: We do not know what controls the pilot may have input during the spin, which could probably have helped raise the wing high during the spin, as it did in the video. That seems to be the only thing missing. Real physics used to recreate the crash at SFO. Exact details of planes weights, fuel on board etc are missing.

I got to fly a caravan again and we dump some jumpers. As for a bucket list, forget skydiving, the jump plane ride is 10 times better. I assure you the ride down was probably as fun as actually skydiving. Notice the altimeter rolling down.
P-51 Mustang crash Reno animated flight path at Reno September 2011
Переглядів 27 тис.12 років тому
Uploaded by: Blake Mathis - Anthony Booher, expert aircraft designer created this animation of Reno crash when P-51 loses trim tab resulting is approx 50% elevator deflection, causing instant nose up, high G load, potentially causing pilot to black out. At pitch up, no controls are put it, planes goes on it own into barrel roll, right into ground near actual impact stop.

This is x plane mobile, or the pc version??????
The guy is lucky to still have his head and maybe fingers.

Hey, I'm looking for baffle on a 60-in gravely mower zero turn rear baffle
I like thiz but ummm the tIl still in there
the old x plane physics was awesome
Its asiana 214
ON and OFF sound too much alike. I recommend HOT and COLD. HOT and BRAKES is the full call before the last pull thru. This could have been real bad
The half of the tail of HL7742 was supposed to come off but the rudder only came off but still this animation is good
already similar but the back is lifted up

That would have been Bad for Aviation
If he turned to land on the road he would have lost lift and crashed on pavement instead of the tree
A question. Small planes don't have a starter system?
yes
I do not understand. We are in the 21st century. And we are still starting the engine with our hands. For what reason? I need someone to explain.
Golden rule of hand propping: Always assume the mags are HOT!
Sum Ting Wong
great *animation* aka recording of a game
Always stand on the other side of the prop. If it starts up at least you get blown away from the prop and not sucked towards it.
I came here from lucaas.
It’s cool but the tail broke off then the engines came off and the plane started spinning
This is x plane old version so there aren’t much crash physics
Bro thats asiana 214
I was there and this ant even close to what happened. Waste of time.
Let’s see you do one

that's not dangerous. or is it? Does the thing not have a sensor that stops when an object comes in between?
ARE YOU KIDDING ME. IT'S A PLANE, NOT A LAWNMOWER!
@@johnorabone6112 😐So it's dangerous

nice work i like it😁 and i like and subcribe
Idiot!!
Is this the 1st x plane ?
Yes is the old version
No comment.
I see many people saying to spin the prop backwards. Never do that. It is geared to accessories that will be damaged over time. If you spin a prop always assume its going to light off. Also don't move it unless absolutely necessary. There should never be any need to pull the prop through except on radial engines so it certainly should not be a normal pre-flight activity.
It is absolutely acceptable to turn the prop backwards, the accessories will not be damaged at all. Everything is gear driven, it's just a matter of the gears/accessories turning the opposite direction
@@adrianpolinski9600 I knew several mechanics who will disagree. The problem is the vacuum pump. It is designed to wear and then shear away from the engine rather than providing excess drag when it fails. It does this with relatively weak plastic components. This also means it isn't tolerant of being spun backwards.
@@joshualandry3160 I'm an A&P myself, I've replaced plenty of them. If you get 500 hours out of a dry vane vacuum pump before it shears, you got your money's worth out of it. I've never sheared one or heard of a vacuum pump being sheared as a result of rotating the prop in the opposite direction. Dry vane vacuum pumps are pretty much consumable items just like tires and oil filters
So now the uninformed who live in a sanitised digital world will think the plane landed intact and there were no spectators killed or injured . I don't see the point of this animation .
lol
I don’t think anyone sanitised or not would think a plane nose diving travelling at 500mph would of landed intact Bob, relax bro, people get offended over the silliest of things
Good job but plane is facing wrong direction on impact
atleast he tried... why dont u
The heck with a dang "walkin broken heart", I want to hear them PW's singing!!!!!!
Not hand propping, and not priming. He was inspecting the prop for nicks as part of his pre-flight inspection. Either one of the mags was not grounding properly, or the keys were in the ignition and at least one of the mags was on.
But you shouldnt turn the prop for the preflight...you can feel damage on the blade with your fingers and you look with your eyes, there's no need to turn it.
In some light aircraft you hand-prop to inspect the oil level during preflight. I'm guessing in this video the ignition key was accidentally left in?
Your thinking of a rotax engine
I do have a sizeable scar on my right arm. I was preflighting a Rotax 912 powered LSA and while pulling the prop through, the compression of the cylinders caused the prop to "jolt" forward, and the blade tip scraped against my upper arm. So yes, even with the ignition off, they can hurt you!
MUITO PERIGOSO, BRASIL OK.
that is why you do this with the ignition off. otherwise don't do it at all
When turning the prop it creates a click witchis a hi voltage to the plugs it's called an impulse coupler if the wire from your switch is broken its live this will not happen if you turn the prop backwards
But you'll likely ruin any vacuum pumps etc. (It breaks the vanes) Don't do it.
@@loddude5706 I am an A&P IA. I always turn the propellers backwards and have never had a vacuum pump break on me. I have however seen many broken p-leads over the years
@@RobtheAviator Vac pumps turned backwards self destruct only when vanes are worn to near their service limit. A&P here also. Somewhere years ago I saw a graphic of what’s going on inside a vac pump when turning fwd vs backwards, showing a new pump vs a pump near the end of its service life. Which ironically is a good argument for turning prop backwards, because then when the pump crunches it’s innards it self indicates replacement is required prior to taking to the air. But it also results in a sudden unplanned cancellation of the planned flight that day.
@@RobtheAviator A&P here too, always turned props backwards. Vacuum pumps usually past about 500 hours anyway
Oops!
