I find it annoying, that companies like YT became so greedy to put 2 adds on start (that often you can't skip), two in between, on a song that lasts 3 minutes. There are two solutions for this problem. You can buy premium and don't bother with ads, or actually own your music. Quick update on the power usage of this setup. / Szybki update a propos zużycia energii tego setup'u. I recently acquired a smart plug that also measures power usage at the wall. According to its readings, NAS uses ~12W at idle and when transferring files it can spike even up to 24W. Estimated daily power usage is 0,29 KWh. This is by no means scientific measurement but should give you an Idea of how power hungry it is. Szacowane dzienne użycie energii to 0,29 KWh. Zdaję sobie sprawę, że smart wtyczka to nie najlepsze urządzenie pomiarowe, ale daje jakiś podgląd.

    Love your mousepad! Have you tried other streaming services like sunshine or parsec? From what I gathered (tested it a bit) parsec held up really good if run 'locally' so 1gig network and sub 5ms ping, if run over WAN input lag got noticable, but still 'ok' if you arent playing the most demanding games like shooters. Also, isnt TF2 running on mac natively?

    • @danceswithmachines_
      @danceswithmachines_ Рік тому

      Thanks! I haven't tried other serivces as I treated it as proof of concept, not a long-term solution. In terms of TF2... While it is listed as supported under mac it's 32-bit only and mac dropped support for 32-bit apps like 5 years ago. The only Valve's game (that I own) that runs on modern MacOS is CS GO.

    Really cool project! Is 720p really necessary? I mean those are retro games, the PS1 for example had a max resolution of 640x480, so running at 720p is basically upsclaing at this point. Think it might make games like crash racing even enjoyable

    • @danceswithmachines_
      @danceswithmachines_ Рік тому

      Thanks! I didn't try that, but I belive that there might be a "visual" problem (blur, etc.) with upscaling implemented in TVs/monitors. I think it is better to start with higher resolution source, but I might be wrong.

    Hello, very nice. In the description you say "i know they make very bad vumeter" why ? Is it the maximum speed of the needle ?

    • @danceswithmachines_
      @danceswithmachines_ Рік тому

      I did this project long ago, but from what I can remember speed of the needles was dependent on acceleration table, part of switec library I used. The problem was that if the speeds were set to high, the motors movement was choppy and they quickly "drifted out of sync" (for lack of better phrase). So... For reliable work, I had to decrease the speed of the motors and as you can see on the video, left needle is falling quite behind the music. That obviously could be also blamed of my junky, temporary setup but I think that main problem is "usable" motor speed.

    This is AMAZING! Before switching to a CLI-only build, I would be curious about two things: Emulation performance (say, N64 and PS One) Performance running native Linux games using box86 and box64 If you don't get the chance to test either of these, I totally understand, but if it can do either of these things I just might wind up buying one of these cheap boxes to do the same!

My current server has 1Gbethernet, but I need 2.5Gb Ethernet. I use it as a Steam game server and some games are very large and slow to load. Also, my UK electricity prices are very high, so I want to move to SSD storage to reduce the 24x7 cost. Could I ask you what your system's idle power is, measured at the wall socket?
