Fish Standard was inspired by an insane passion for outdoor activities including fishing, farming, hunting, and fur trapping. When other content creators failed to provide the combination of entertainment and information that I desired I decided to start creating on my own.
While sharing my content is an enjoyable hobby, I am unapologetically an outdoor enthusiast first. This means that every adventure I share is 100% real and authentic. Catfishing, ultralight fishing, alfalfa farming, deer and turkey hunting, and predator trapping are a few of the activities I pursue.
Fish Standard is all about keeping things simple, ethical, and fun. I use standard gear and setups, uphold a high standard for outdoor ethics, and maintain a high standard of success.

Nest Raider Management | River Bridge Trapline
Trapping season is nearly here and I'm excited to kick it off with some catch footage from my previous season's nest raider line. I stuck a few dog proof traps in on trails around a bridge bordering land I hunt, fish and trap, and I made catches in these sets all season long. Placing traps on heavily trafficked trails is a sure way to pad your catch, and the efficiency of trapping places like land bordering bridges makes running the line fast, simple, and fun. I didn't extirpate the nest raiders, nor was that my intent. However, I successfully removed a few and hopefully helped some of our birds nest successfully. Additionally, the recreational aspect of trapping in such a simple and efficient manner can't be ignored. I thoroughly enjoyed running this trapline and hope it helps get your prepared for the upcoming season. Enjoy!

Ultralight Fishing a Road Culvert with 1" Berkley Gulp Minnows

Finding actively feeding fish is sometimes the most difficult task in angling. Slow days are frustrating when nothing works as expected. The best you can do is be flexible and willing to make changes. Sometimes a minor change makes a big difference. Other times, catching fish requires changing the game plan from top to bottom. This outing was a 'change the whole plan' kind of day. Catfishing th...

For anglers, education about fish and their habits is both critical and inevitable. Some outings are more instructive than others, and impatient or inattentive anglers are likely to miss out. This catfishing expedition reiterated to me the critical importance of patience and precision. While catfishing I always strive for precision in my bait placement, but precision becomes even more critical ...
SMALL RIVER Catfishing with Worms
Переглядів 3,1 тис.Місяць тому
With big bites hard to come by during the heart of the spawn, I decided to bust out the light tackle rigs and give worms a try. I was going for smaller fish but more bites, and I did get more bites! However, my skill with the tiny catfish has diminished with time, and I lost as many as I caught. Furthermore, two of the catfish I did land were anything but tiny. Landing big catfish is always fun...

Grumpy Cat! lol. (Glen). WV.
Thanks for watching, Glen!
Great trip brother!
Thanks for tuning in!
That aint no channel cat
RELEASE INTO THE GREASE IS ALWAYS NUMERO UNO FOR ME 😂😂😂😂🎉🎉
FILLET AND RELEASE INTO THE GREASE 😂😂😂😂😂😂
lol, would have been especially appropriate in this case
great dinner
Stopped watching when you pulled the glove out
I get a lot of negative feedback about the glove. To me, avoiding cut up and bloody hands is more important than looking tough. Props to those of you out there that are tougher than me!
@@fishstandard I’m just dumb bud. Don’t mind me. Nice fish.
Just ran across your channel and you definitely got some nice ones. I would invest in a net and or fish gribs just to get them landed and back in the water much quicker.
Getting them back quick is definitely purely a big deal. Thanks for watching!
Looking good
Yee yee
Outstanding as always, buddy
Thank you!
Oh no, come on man, you don't have a scale? I was trying to guess what that cat weighed and was definitely going to ask at the end, but I was thinking you'd guess too, and that our guesses would probably be pretty similar. But, um, they were not, at all even, close. I paused the video when you said your number and I haven't read the comments yet, but I'm also not going to say my guess till I watch the rest, then come back and see if I can look any closer, and maybe change my guess if I see something I didn't consider before. And I'm not a pro or probably even that good at cat fishing compared to a lot of folks, but even here in Montana where I'm at, I catch quite a few cats every year, and I do my best to weigh them all, which helps me in the future when I do have to guess. And I also know how easy it is to guess their weight higher than it really is, because they DO look big, and especially if it's one of the biggest ones you've caught so far. I do that very thing, and that's why I'd rather weigh than guess their size. I'm thinking or wondering if the camera made a difference in how I'm viewing it, maybe I'm getting a way different perception, because there's quite a spread between our numbers, and I guess I'm just assuming you've caught a ton of these and therefore should be a good judge of it's weight. So yeah, I'm not calling bs on your guess, but maybe a little bs on the fact you don't have a good scale with you!
I don’t recall what I said in the video, but I’ve learned to avoid commenting on weight on film! Folks get hung up on a number when the experience and enjoyment is really what counts. That’s why I rarely carry a scale. Thanks for watching and good luck on the water!
I've been fishing for about 20 years I'm 28 now but I've never caught a catfish over 26 inches it sucks cause I'll go kayaking and nothing idk what I'm doing that's wrong I've used every bait possible
I suggest using some kind of cut or live fish (read your state’s regs to find out what species are legal). Pick a good bait and stick with it until you start to get a better feel for where to locate fish. After you start to figure out that piece of the puzzle then you might experiment with bait offerings. Learning what locations hold fish is key. Focus on location at first and keep everything else simple. I use a Carolina rig with cut or live fish almost 100% of the time. Good luck!!
Fry that thang up playa!! Ill definitely swing by for some fried Catfish 😂
Lost my phone and my glasses right after landing a huge fish such a bittersweet feeling😂
Glad to not be the only one!
Them small teeth do some damage.
Man clicking on this video I didn’t have high hopes but man this was a great video dude keep up the work
Thanks for the feedback! Do you mind sharing why your expectations were low and suggestions that would have helped you feel like it was worth a click? Constructive feedback is rare, but helps know how to improve. Thank you for watching!
I'm an old bastard, grew up fishing in the 1980's... Back then when you caught a giant fish there was no practical way to get pics of it, so you had to try and convince people to believe you. But I must say---I never caught a fish as big as the one you got here. And glad you were able to capture some footage of it. Now it will live on the internet forever. :)
Folks still don’t believe it! Comments like “you edited it” etc. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for watching!
Gg
You did a hell of a job landing that fish thumbs up.
Thank you!
I’ve been watching your videos for over 2 years and I’ve noticed the water is lower than last year when you were catching all of those flatties. Do you think the water level had something to do with it, I’m from OK and fish the Arkansas river north of Kaw at the Kansas line and I always do better when the rivers up and flowing good, but other people swear that when the waters low the fish are easier to find and are normally starving. It’s only a matter of time before you find the flatties again brother.
Thank you for the continued support! I’m not sure what has caused the limited flathead bite this year. We have been in a drought cycle for over three years now, and the water level is certainly lower than it was last year (lowest I have ever seen). Last year I felt the awesome flathead bite was due to lowered water levels that had the fished pushed into deeper pockets where they were easier to find. For some reason, this year as the water levels have further declined the fish are no longer where they were. Any reason I can give for the changing bite is really just speculation. I have landed a few flatties recently, though none of extraordinary size. Look for those videos coming up soon!
@@fishstandardheck yeah brother, as a fellow yak catfeesherman stay safe on the water. I’ve yet so roll mine, but when I saw you take your spill with that MONSTER Flatty I knew anything is possible. If you ever wanna do a video somewhere else I can take ya on the Arkansas river right at the Kansas/OK state line. I do really well with channels, blues and flatties. I also am able to fish with two rods but I just use rope with a rebar stake and bury into the banks rather than the brush clips. I’m not a fan of getting a big fish on the line, and realizing I’m snagged. It’s much easier than fry to release my anchor point to go try and get the fish out of the logs. Keep grinding brother, you’re a solid fisherman
What time of year is this?
This video was filmed in either June or July of last year. Thanks for watching!
Those are like crack to flathead
Nice catch
Thank you!
I have never tried eating flatheads but they’re the same cooler as a bullhead and there is not many better eating freshwater fish than them.
Flatheads can be delicious when prepared the right way!
Nice flattie. Those are so fun to catch. Especially in a kayak.
100% agree.
😊😊😊😊😊😊FISH AND CHIPS 😂😂😂😂😂
Great bass. Looking into making a simple lure retriever that hooks a weight onto your line. I love ultralight fishing. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Every Flatty is a good flatty! Nice vid brother.
Thank you!
Enjoyed it!
Thank you!
Keep up the good work, very nice fish you got there !
Thank you!
Nice channel 4 sure
Thanks for watching!
That's why I buy a cheap phone lost many fishing it sucks
😂 This was my first and hopefully my last! Thanks for watching!
Your videos are AWESOME. Ya got a new subscriber.
Thank you! Appreciate the support!
So you just suspend the bait in open water near a brush pile and hope to get hit? I've never seen this, but I am impressed with the result. Well done!
Pretty much. It’s a safe bet that fish will be holding in or around brush in comparatively deeper water. I get as close to the cover as I can. If there’s a fish there and I can get a bait close enough they will probably take it.
Is this a tributary of the Missouri River?
Not directly, though the water does eventually make it there. This is two rivers removed from the Kansas, which is a tributary of the Missourri.
Here our river is very low, the average deepest area is around 9-10', now around 3-4'. The water is crystal clear and you can see them, people has stopped fishing. The temperature here is averaging 90 degrees every week. Surprised to see you doing another video but glad to get to see one and you catching one! God Bless and stay cool and safe! (Glen). WV.
Thanks for watching! Hopefully we will see a shift in the drought conditions sometime soon!
😊😊😊😊😊 VERY NICE KITTY 🐱
Thank you!
Quick question what setup are you using and how much did it cost
I paired a KastKing Rover 60 baitcasting reel with a 7’ medium heavy Ugly Stik catfishing rod. I run a basic Carolina rig almost exclusively - 80lb mainline braid, barrel swivel, 40lb monofilament leader, 8/0 circle hook. Rod and reel combo cost around $90 bucks, though that price is probably around $110 now. It’s a solid combo for the price. You can get something better but would be hard pressed to find better quality at this price point.
Great video. Lots of good info
Appreciate the positive feedback. Thanks for watching!
First, please pin also, I am subbed
Thanks for subscribing!
That was a channel cat? 👀 😱
They’re a hard fighting fish!
My dad caught a grass carp last night
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Stand those rods up straight bud. The rods have memory and will warp
Thanks for the tip!
Why fish for some thing you don't eat .c.cat fish you eat only f. Cat .fish
While catching fish for food is an extremely important reason for angling, it is not the only valid reason. Your state wildlife department probably has some information available to help address your question. Funding received from the sale of licenses is critical to conservation efforts and would likely be near the top of the list.
Nice
Nice fish.
i thought you had your hook stuck on those sticks lol
I wish I could catch fish when I went fishing :(
