      This is a discussion area on real matters for those who have read the chapter of the day. The Bible is replete with actual ..imagine that..actual events of others’ lives. Names and addresses given. Their sex lives, the murders they committed, the rapes and crimes in living colours. All their sins for all to learn from. These are ensamples and admonitions for us who live in the end times. Every single thing you read in the SOP is either a letter to someone, or discusses someone who wouldn’t listen. If you had read the Bible and SOP, you would know that they teach through the lives of others. Backbiting, slander, being salacious, trying to cause division, laughing at someone’s downfall, enjoying the suffering of the victim, hatred, MALICE..these are the roots of gossip. Feel free to find someone who has vague theories and no practical message. I am not here to please any human but to reflect on true experiences. All cause pain -if sad. All can be learnt from so that one not fall into the same mistakes made. All are useful. All make the truth understandable. Feel free to find someone who suits your character. Go well.

      How did you arrive at the word gossip? Gossip is usually done under the guise of secrecy where lives of others are discussed with the intention of slandering and spreading hate. Here I see a woman trying to educate and warn others using real life experiences… I’m sorry but you are being unreasonable in your thinking.

    From Sr Vala’s pen. Shame, she sent through when I had worked way too fast and had already posted. “My sis, how's the day going? Just read chapter 12. It's heartbreaking to read these chapter and know the ache she talks about. It's a pity how the virtues that make a Christian home are so rare and scarce. Every paragraph makes so much sense and has powerful points. It reminds me of what I also endured when my "dad" was around. And I'm realising that, not only do wives / husbands endure a terrible spouse but children do too. "Often the wife and the children suffer from the indolence and inefficiency of the vicious habits of the husband and father" AH, p.83. I know this all too well. "This thousands have sacrificed themselves, soul and body, by unwise marriages and have gone in a path of perdition" p.83 My hubby touched on these issues when we were at the SDASM camp and two ladies confessed to me that they are unequally yoked. I shared what we'd been reading and my own testimony and really begged them to count the cost. And I urged them to consider what their family life would be like and how their children will be impacted. More so, God cannot bless such. I really encouraged them to work on knowing God for themselves and developing themselves for service. It's a pity that teens often think you are too serious when you show them these realities. I told about how such affected my upbringing even though my parents weren't unequally yoked but one wasn't sincerely committed to Christ and was a churchgoer.”

    It'd have been nice if she asked - how are you coping and whether the teens assist. Also, what challenges you face. Since when has it been difficult to ask a person rather than assume. Asking is crucial because you seek to understand and genuinely care. I have a jersey like yours❤️🥰

    Reflections on Chapter 8 I have been so blessed by this chapter. It has really made me conclude that God is the best expert when it comes to relationships. Unfortunately, culture and worldliness has often influenced how we view relationship and often consulted our own reason. 1. The ideas of courtship have their foundation in erroneous ideas concerning marriage. They follow impulse and blind passion. The courtship is carried on in a spirit of flirtation. AH 55.1 Sadly, this spirit exists even in the church. It's becoming more clear that, one must know the intention of marriage and how courtship should be carried out, before even venturing into the relationship. This will truly give the right perspective and help us weigh our intentions and pursue the right course. 2.The high, noble, lofty design of God in the institution of marriage is not discerned; therefore the purest affections of the heart, the noblest traits of character are not developed. AH 55.1 What a pity! Marriage really needs one to have a personal relationship with God even before being in the relationship. It also needs one to introspect why they desire marriage and whether the desire is rooted in honouring God and service the other. You know, it's always been advised to marry in the church but often we are not told what qualities both parties must have before entering marriage and doing the heart work. If we truly entered marriage with the right intentions, it'd really help us in the Christian walk and wouldn't be a burden. I am really thankful for this book and Letters to Young Lovers - they made me reflect and sincerely seek God for the big step of marriage - to repent and to allow God to work in me. I really wanted to avoid having a bitter experience in marriage and I asked for His counsel. I'm thankful for a partner who also sought God on his corner so that it was centred on God. Initially I was excited to be in a courtship and I remember he'd stress on our need to have a mission field and a life calling so that it wouldn't be centred on us. I admit, this used to worry me; but as I sought God I was placed in the missionary school and that brought me so much joy and I was convicted about my role in shaping young minds and my influence on them. It has really made our marriage rich because we have a bigger vision to serve others. I'm still learning and it is my prayer that I'll embody all these virtues need in marriage. God bless this Ministry 3. If courtships were not carried in secret, parents were involved or other godly counsellors, I believe many evils would've been avoided. I believe premarital sexual relations would be rare because there'd be no secret meetings behind closed doors and sober decisions would be made. The issue of absent fathers would also be solved. I think of how a man would be made tomorrow the lady they've impregnated. Common dating makes it hard for parents to even know the partners. Some parents have never seen the fathers of their grandchildren nor do they feel the need to be known because of these secret meetings. And my favourite line : You can have but one youth; make that useful. AH 59.4 Had I known this counsel I'd have spent more time developing myself, talents, skills and not have gotten in untimely relations.

    I've boarded the train later so I'll try catching up. I'm a 1st generation Adventist and I'm single. My mother was a single mother raised us lovingly, even at this age she has never shouted at me she raised us with love and gentleness. She's the one who taught me that a house may not be fancy but it has to be clean, I'm amazed this book mentions this. Martin Luther once said if God despatched two angels from heaven one to clean the streets and the other to work in an office job ,he says none would envy another's job and none would think I have a better job than the other. Instead they both would do the best job each can. Whatever we do may we do it as if we are doing it for God. Oh by the way my mother is getting baptized to the sda faith in November. (Lol i know it's out of topic)

    • @thandilocks
      @thandilocks 3 місяці тому

      That is lovely! God bless you both! Thank you for sharing. May her baptism truly be life changing for her. I hope she will hear the angels singing as she rises up from the water. That’s special. Gentleness is possible. I don’t know to explain to others, but it is. I don’t have a friend who has not yelled at her children so it’s lovely to hear that you experienced the opposite.

    Honestly, this quote also jumped at me:There is a careful recognition of the rights of others. - AH 31.2 My dad would play loud music from early as 6 am. And being a person who really loves quietness, this would really break my heart. Meditating was sometime so hard. It's as if most fathers think they have a right to stumble on others. It's heartbreaking honestly. Home life requires so much humility. On the other hand, my mom always emphasised that our home is for all of us and every person's right matters. Oh may God bless her heart. She understood when I was super tired from work and would serve me and I'd also cook and serve her. I really enjoyed living with my mom. Such a peaceful somebody. I'm thankful for her humility and because of that, we could point out her flaws and she'd accept it without pulling out the age card.

      Yhuuu. My dad and his radio and TV. It truly is as if fathers think the world owes them. Your mom-again- is amazing! She really is a blessing. May she have a very, very long life and may the rest of her years be as smooth as possible.

  • @mercymsezeni838

    What a thought-provoking chapter. I honestly need to meditate on this again. Interesting how there's emphasis on "one well-ordered home". Honestly, each home's influence is felt, you'd even have elderly people ask "ngumntwana waphi lo, unembeko ?" and this is mostly a reference to the work of the parents. This week we were visiting an Ethiopian family that has lost a loved one. The warmth and service I've felt there was out of this world. The ladies cook and the men serve those there to support the grieving family. Just the sense of community, together and genuine service really encouraged me to be more hospitable. The fathers were holding the children and this was so,so heartwarming to see.

    This Oneness must really be pursued. And truly if I can nourish myself and take care of myself, I should do the same for my spouse. I totally agree - God's gifts are a blessing - He adds no sorrow to His gift. And the spouse must constantly walk with God so s/he can continually be a blessing.

    Looking beautiful my sis. I really enjoyed this Chapter. If the divine principles are recognized and obeyed in this relation, marriage is a blessing; it guards the purity and happiness of the race, it provides for man's social needs, it elevates the physical, the intellectual, and the moral nature. AH 25.4 How I pray my marriage may continually be a blessing and contribute positively to society. The quote above really stood out for me...to think our Father has placed this institution as a safeguard of society. Hahaha what a surprise! I love what your grandfather did. An equal, oh yes!

Growing up I've always thought being a career woman is way better until I realised, no duty is is less done and its an opportunity to serve, excel, and grow. I really love the point of breaking the cycle of the homes we grew up in. I've been thinking of this for weeks and God used the story of Joash to point how He's intent on having us break free from the wrong cycle - in his context idolatry. On saying NO! I visited a home and the lady kept offering me things that went against my principles. I pray for more grace to say NO. I love the idea of reading the books with the children ❤.

    • @thandilocks

      It really is difficult saying no hey! We have been conditioned that being polite and “grateful” are the height of respect. The invisible God and our allegiance are difficult for others to understand. Look at how people are even castigated for turning jobs down that require Sabbath duty. To then make it even more ‘personal’ and “refuse what I’m giving you?? How dare you?” You get labeled by the unkind who don’t want to understand. Being a peacekeeper is difficult.

      Imagine! That’s terrible! And scary. I dislike zoos too. And it’s sad that we are the ones encroaching on their space, we don’t need EVERY thing we have. Our old ways when it comes to sharing the land, were better. We respected the animals and tried to keep safe instead of putting them in zoos. Or doing those canned lion hunting things that these sanctuaries are now trying to protect the animals from- when non trained animals like these which have never been in the wild area are set free so rich hunters come and pretend they were hunting. That makes me so angry too.
