I get Geelongs strategy.We dont get access to the top end talent in the draft like other teams so we have to trade for the talent and look for gems in the late picks like Z.Guthrie,Gryan,Lawson,Dempsey,Mannah etc.We have three generational players Stewart,Jezza and Danger and it is a smart move to get establish stars ready to impact rather than draft kids with the early picks and wait 3 years for them to have an impact.If at all.Then the big 3 will be at the end of their careers.

Oliver is no way near a $1.4 mill per year player... hes worth no more than 300k per year. Hes a massive coke head ... a regular at chapel street clubs racking up , line after line ... his performance is due to a serious drug problem, he would need a pre season at rehab , before you even start football training.

He's an absolute legend. If he goes I'll be shattered. We need experience and leadership. He better stay

If there’s one thing that’s really frustrated me this off season so far it’s the seemingly lack of interest by Geelong to get an extra ruckman for depth. Stanley while he’s done a solid job won’t be there forever and Conway keeps getting injured. It surely won’t cost a lot in draft picks to get a ruckman who hasn’t been getting enough games at their current AFL club and bring them to Geelong? In fact, I say we should have done that with Ivan Soldo but he’s already decided on St Kilda. Pittonet would have also been a good option too if that was doable.

Yes, he's a good player for training the new guys but he's too slow and cost us 2 goals as a sub. His time is up.

He needs to stay for finals, give him a few games every few weeks then rest his body for finals

I never thought he was bad, in fact I always thought he was a barometer for the team, if he's playing well the team around him plays well. - but at the same time in regard to the stats, Geelong have a uncontrolled style of play that I think has been being exaggerated more and more resulting in low possession games.- with one or two exceptions - I mean how many games did we win this year with a lower possession count? - our possessions per goal would be through the roof, I may calculate it at some point - so our style of play and the leaning into it we seem to have seen this year make year on year averages perhaps a little misleading - That said I think Stanley though he didn't have a high number of clearances set up a large number of them to get our midfield game back on track this year. - I don't blame him for the prelim loss, even if he slotted it I didn't think there was enough time to truly get the next goal.

If we keep Stanley he might be useful as in having Smith and now Oliver around the midfield!

Oliver and Smith without their issues are exactly what we need.Unfortunately we will have to offload a young midfielder to make it happen Knevitt,Clark,Clohesy or Stevens will need to be used in the deal as they just wont get opportunities at Geelong.I would offer up Knevitt.He looks completely lost at AFL level but doninates at reserves level and plays a very passive brand of football.

Rhys for 1 more year then TDK walks in as a free agent at the end of next year.TDK then solves our ruck problem for the next 10 years and loves life living at Torquay.Rhys Stanley has always played better fresh and will need to be managed next year but he did a great job in the back end of the season.

With Bazz Clarry Danger Holmes Stewart Bowes Guthrie Bruhn ect receiving the ball from Rhys we shouldn’t have any worries anyway

He was good this year except for one shocker I think it was against Port in Geelong where he was subbed out before half time. I'm glad you were gentle on him for missing that goal in the prelim. You could see he gave it his all and was really struggling with injury and the pressure of needing to kick 2 goals to win meant he could not compose himself and he did have a quick look to see if someone would sneak past for a quick handball. If there was more time I'm sure he would have taken the 30 seconds to compose himself or even stayed down injured so that someone else take the kick. I think he needs to stay on the list until Conway or SDK are ready to take over. I prefer they don't use Blicavs in the ruck now that he is older, he is better as a key defender or even running through the midfield.

stanley needs to stay until conway gets his body right and can be trusted consistently

im happy for de konning to go if we get oliver out of it our midfield needs a major overhall if we add 2 guns in the middle danger plays forward and we look so much more dangerous and we can afford to wait til o'conner progressors as a key back, de konning was in and out of the side and not settled and at times looked dissinterested and he is terrible under pressure

I was really impressed with Stanley's performance later in the season. He did well in the preliminary final, except for the last goal kick. I agree with you, Paul - he needs strong midfielders to help him get the centre clearance. I hope the team will work on conditioning and strengthening his body during the off-season.

I'm a cats fan but I see no way where Melbourne give us Oliver and a pick. Best we can hope for is Oliver for a second rounder or next years first & Melb pay $200k per year. I get a little concerned with the Cats taking on too many players with personal issues now that there is no Selwood & Hawkins. I get that on this years performance Oliver is only worth a 2nd or 3rd rounder but on previous years he would be 2 x 1st rounders. Both he and Melbourne seem to need a fresh start. I'll be very happy if we get him for a 2nd rounder or less as it makes the risk of getting him worth taking. Bailey Smith also on last time he played form (plus this year ACL & personal issues) is only worth cats 1st rounder at best but I understand that the Bulldogs will want more based on his age and potential he showed the years prior. Fans & clubs always rate their players higher....if TDK was being traded we would say he is worth 2x 1st rounders, yet on this years form he was probably only a 2nd or 3rd rounder. BTW I hope he stays.....( and finds form again, probably in the ruck as I don't think Conway has a full year in him body wise). Blicavs back in defense as we start to take care of his older body. Blicavs could have many excellent years at fullback whereas if we keep putting him in the ruck he will burnout within 2 years.

I love the idea that we can take players who've had their struggles, like our much-loved and superb Tyson Stengle, and get around them to rebuild them as confident, respectful and successful footballers. TBH, the money talk makes me a bit sick, given the massive gap between rich and poor in the country, Geelong a prime example, and not much is gonna change there... Nonetheless, a club that supports the whole person AND develops such GREATNESS amongst its players is one I'm proud to be a member of. 😻🙏🏼

At times Oliver appeared like he mentally detached from games and wasn't even trying to put in his best effort early in the season>>> And then he 'flicked the switch' against the Cats>>> Because there was definitely a stark improvement in that game compared to his previous ones and It was probably his best match performance for the season! Maybe he was auditioning?

While I’m happy with Bailey Smith coming I just feel that attempting to bring in Clayton Oliver as well puts too much eggs in one basket. I would rather we look at getting an extra ruckman in there given Stanley does not have long to go and Conways injury history.

I know you filmed this yesterday but depsite public talk from Melbourne, they're the ones trying to force Oliver out which diminishes his value somewhat. Oliver was not the one wanting to leave but is now exploring options, he may still decide he wants to stay.

Oliver's contract is too big. Melbourne have this idiocy of over paying players. Grundy. Oliver. It hamstrings their list by not allowing money for other players to get some depth.

Word is Doggies have offered SDK a 6 year deal. In regards to getting Clayton Oliver. Offer Oliver Wiltshire and the Tom Stewart signed gurnsey, that Melbourne could have got from a Christian Petracca trade. Then comes to the contact. Offer oliver a four n twenty pie after every game, like jeremy cameron has in his contact. And 400k a season.

Yeah, Kane's suggestion of being similar to the Bowes trade sounds ideal, but even the second option of trading SDK to Carlton via a 3 Club Trade also works for me. Losing SDK wouldn't be that big of a deal, we have a couple of young defenders in the VFL. Including Connor O'Sullivan and George Stevens.
