This must be pretty recent, as at 25.32 there are only 3 RATHCOOLE multies, i grew up on the estate, i am old enough to be your twos Granda lol, but i remember you could hear the lions roar when me and mates where out playing out in the summer, and could also hear the ghost train at the amusements. my oul ma remembers walking up them steps and dancing in the Floral hall ❤ fantastic video lads, keep her lit 👍

The old zoo gate house was lived in by past mangers and later zoo staff. Just before I started working there the foreman , I believe his name was Ricky lions... was shot dead by republican gunmen I think it was 1978/79. There is a plaque remembering him facing the floralhall.

At 38 minutes you are in the monkey House chimpanzee. This is where they lived before their relativity new monkey house opened around the early 80s..

The part you are in at 29 minutes on your video was the lions paddock. The steps used to be cleaned every week. And funny that you run up the steps like rocky as are very own world boxing champion rinty Monaghan is on record as doing just that as he would train running up and down those same steps. There is now a statue of him at the new university beside St Ann's cathedral in Belfast.

Impressive lads. I worked there from the age of 19 and you walked past the elephant house down the bottom corner nearest the gate house itself. And you were right about the polar bears house. And blue and yellow metal thing you say was a birds house was infect the famous band stand the was taken from its original place that is now the zoo's carpark. Look it up. I do remember it when visiting the zoo as a kid when there was a playground and amusements called Barry's, again look it up. The old school room was once my tearoom and had a very large snake 🐍 escape into the ceiling and walls. I could never be in there to long. Lol.

Typical of Belfast council though letting the historical steps entrance fall into such decay...just as the Floral Hall has too which was a big part of Belfast's social history. Sadly the younger generations will possibly never see these places as the Belfast Council will not restore them and just as many old beautiful Victorian and Art Deco buildings in Belfast the bulldozer moves in and erases your ancestors history. 🙁

The old Zoo opened in 1934 but sadly at the start of WW2 some animals Polar Bears, Lions Tigers etc were shot due to fear of them escaping if the Zoo was hit by overhead bombs. The Zoo reopened in 1947 and new animals were brought back as exhibits. Just think whilst you both were exploring there you were physically touching a part of Belfast history...the metal ornate framework of the bird enclosure and the bent bars etc could be original structures from 1934 but the mesh wire fencing was probably replaced every so often. I remember visiting the old Zoo as a child in the 1970's walking up those entrance steps. If i am correct the elephants were housed behind a moat like enclosure and a circular concrete platform is where they stood it was enclosed by mesh wire fencing. At the top of the old Zoo used to be childrens rides and swings which when seated upon you felt as a child you were flying over the edge of the whole Zoo when looking down. It was beautiful from what i remember and it was a day out place for families and always packed during summer. Great memories from a great video of bringing the past of childhood back to life.

They've finally started renovations here. I tried to explore it yesterday and came across some workers with a van, just warning in case anyone else is planning on exploring it

Stayed at this place in 2021, was great no signs of closing down, was a bit of an old people’s place but still nice and well maintained, never knew it closed down, never would’ve guessed, so weird watching it like this all abandoned. Probs up for sale cause there’s security and it’s says temporarily closed.

Alright guys... tonight we are exploring this abandoned bank... the people just walked out of the front locked the doors and left the place empty😂😂

The hearse is there cause during Halloween they do a scary train yoke you sit on a go cart looks like train and you drive threw woods at night and people would jump out and scare you that was part of it

From my experience, the owners probably retired, packed what they wanted, left what they didn't, and moved into town, a nicer place, with no intentions of selling or renting this house. My grandparents farmhouse is in the beginning stages of this. My dad moved out of it, about 4 years ago, you could walk in, and still live there, electricity and water are still on, but the only purpose it serves now is like a break room for my grandpa, dad and uncle for when they are out doing farm work, but it's already showing signs of falling apart from disuse. Its like the house knows she's at the end of her life.
