Yes. The Ocean Grove Fishing Club structure on the pier was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Today there is a new pier over the ocean without any structure on the end.

Very poor audio. However, I did work in Elberon/Long Brach when I was 16 as a mother's helper for a Jewish couple that had a 2 year old son, Jeff, who I took to the Long Branch Country Club each day.

I grew up in NJ and went to St. Rose of Lima Church. My sister went to the parochial school there. We lived for a while in an upstairs apt. at 22 Institute St. which is just a hope skip and jump from his Institute connection and my cousin lived around the corner from Randolph St. on Mc Lean Ave. Will share this vlog for my family and friends in NJ and in Freehold. We always ate at Federici's too.

Proud member of the NJ SCV camp! This is one of several neat confederate sites to see in New Jersey. New Jersey has major confederate ties that many tend to be unaware of. Normally the usa federal flags should NOT be there. When we go down there we place the first national and battle flag down. The men are not buried under the monument they are in trench graves between the trees around.

Hey History Chick - Great story - did you know that much of asbury's history involved amusements of all kinds - it would make for a great story down the road!. I was the last owner operator of Asbury Casino Amusements / Palace Casino Amusements. We had sold the palace amusements to sam vacarro i think in 1988 (so hard to remember) . If you ever need any info on the amusement history just let me know as it goes back to 1897. All the best !! > Chris

I read that David Sancious’ mom was the only one that would let the band practice in her house, and that’s why they were called the E street band.

O.G. was my childhood home. I often played in the park next to the auditorium, and drank from that fountain. My great grandfather was a Methodist/Episcopal minister in Long Branch, and preached once in the auditorium. When he died at a very young age the famous preacher Billy Sunday took up a collection at one of the Sunday sessions, which was enough to buy a house there for his widow, so that she could rent out rooms. Their younger daughter, my grandmother, was a real rebel, often sneaking out of Sunday meetings with friends. As an adult she would host secret home parties with alcohol, and sometimes drive her car right through the chains at the gate, when she was late getting it out. Her older sister was a saint like her father, and also died young. Although not having lived there for many years, that little piece of paradise will always hold a special place in my heart.

Great video. The Reverend James Caldwell was actually called the Fighting Parson. His wife was Hannah Caldwell. I did notice you mentioned the name Margaret. She was killed in Connecticut Farms which is today's Union NJ. Caldwell NJ was named after after the Reverend, it was previously known as Horse Neck Tract. The Snyder Academy was actually known as the Old Academy or Elizabethtown Academy. Later renamed Snyder Academy when it was renovated a few years ago.

hey there! I enjoyed watching your take on Ocean Grove. Having spent many week long trips to the Grove in my early years, it is always fun to revisit the place that made such an impression on me - including the victorian architecture. our first trip was in 1964 - well before the ban on cars on sundays was lifted. that was a unique experience for sure! so many fond memories - it looked like you enjoyed your time there as well! jt
