Our vents don't seem to be working even despite following these instructions. The adjusters don't seem to do anything at all. During the middle of the day, really hot day, they wouldn't tighten to take the weight of the window at all. It's like they just spin round doing nothing. Really exasperated now. Spent time and money on two new vents for our allotment greenhouse and I honestly can't see a thing we've done incorrectly yet they don't work. Would be really grateful for any advice.

Got one of these for my wife's new small lean to green house but after fitting it it just pops up suddenly when its warm! Is it meant to open slowly a bit at a time? or quickly pop up as I'm not sure if I have fitted it correctly.

And after the 10th attempt to get the alignment right and tight the threads start to strip from the clamps and screws. With toughened glass in the roof vents it worries me that something sharp will eventually come into contact with the glass and break it.

It all looks soooo easy. After the vent arms have dislodged for the umpteenth time, and believe me they will, it all gets a bit tiresome. I really don't understand the adjustment at the required temperature. Ended up wedging open my window with a block of wood! So much for the Bayliss Autovent.

Will this fit a Hartley Botanic Highgrow 10 greenhouse?

Useful info - BUT it does not explain how to “adjust if necessary” to get the gap between the unit and the glass equal along the length of the unit. This is around 2:40 in the video. I have fitted at least 6 of these units but never once come across any information anywhere as to how to set this parameter.

I think what you are supposed to do is wait until the temperature gets to the temperature you want it to start opening and then screw the adjustment screw until it starts to push the window.

@@SirJamez0 Thanks, i know how to set the temperature. I am asking about physically fitting the unit so that i have the recommended gap all along the length of the 'arm' such that i have an even spaced gap between IT and the glass all along it's length. The only way I've found to get this right in most cases is by drilling further holes in the plastic ends so that i have more options as to the placement of the unit.

@@Jetjai I understand now. Yes, either that or, I see some people screw a piece of wood to the window frame as an extender to then screw the arm to.

For the temperature setting, does one twist until the window opens to a certain height at the correct temperature? This section of the vid is not very clear. Also, somehow I’ve over loosened the adjusting dial and the rod came out and oil spilled everywhere. What can I fill the rod chamber with to get it working again please?
