    “2x4 material” is generally fir. Usually Douglas fir if it comes from the northwest. That’s a soft wood and is probably pretty easy to burn on a belt. I’m all for wood and natural materials, (leather sheath, wood handles, etc) but some G-10 liners would be much more stable and you can do any color you want. Get your respirator on to work with it; it’s essentially fiberglass. Or find a light hardwood to offset the dark handle wood.

    You have a forge. Try using it to forge to shape. Billions of stock removal vids and they are all the same. When knife making became popular everyone was forging to shape as best they could. Then this stock removal phenomenon took over. It is boring as it is all exactly the same. Shape the steel with heat and hammer, you will respect yourself in the morning. Forge On!!!

    Thanks for the review. After watching I went ahead and purchased the Palmgrem, I am just getting started and it will be a hobby for me. Anyway was wondering if you ever found a way to fix the belt tension?

    • @ForgedIntheHills
      @ForgedIntheHills 5 місяців тому

      I found out that the belts I am using are just slightly bigger than 42”. So they can’t be as tight as I like. But it also helped that I recently added a hardened steel plate to my stock platen. Gave it some extra tension.

    How you like the belt sander? I have the Bauer 4×36 and its nice for most everything except blades. Unless I forge the bevel out first, then grind it. The backplate is wide, and hard to get a good angle on the bevels. But like I said, for all my tooling, (hammers, chisel/punch sets ect) its nice haveing the extra room. Handles too. 🍻
