There's an old saying in film making "When the monster dies you roll credits". The moment Rei got her head snipped off the story was over and they should have moved on, there was no point in telling any story past that because there was on relevant story to say. Rehashing the ending so you can fit in a few more years of filler content has never improved a story, ever.

One thing that stood out to me is how her father having sex is the only form of physical affection or emotional intimacy we see in the entirety of her childhood flashbacks, every single shot has her essentially standing alone even when surrounded by people. To me that makes her obsession with having sex and being an adult actually just her trying to recieve the only form of affection and closeness she knows of

God, i hate how shinji is so violated and used in the previous episode, being purposely kept in the dark about toji and then forced to fight with the dummy plug, and then not a single person in his life apologizes or acknowledged their wrong doing and just gets upset when he wants to quite, the fact that the narrative is framing it as him running away from his responsibilities rather than his trust being exploited and broken and not wanting to let that happen again by leaving is so so frustrating holy shit

Its too bad they didnt go with toji metaphorically dying, he's alive but will never be the same person he was both physically and mentally, even just a short scene of someone trying to interact with him but he doesnt respond in the same way he would before would be enough i feel

the first ad was a bit annoying, and poorly placed, but i figured it was ok since you were getting paid for it. by the second one, my opinion of the quality of the video series as a whole was negatively impacted. you are making videos about editing and scene placement. it's what you're getting paid to talk about. you should know better.

"subtlety is a wonderful thing and not present here" honestly, while i agree that a lot of the metaphors aren't hidden or subtle, i think they are still sometimes easy to miss just because there is so much going on, so much new and confusing information, that it is hard to catch everything in a scene. in the scene where gendo's glasses warp, it's a tense moment, and the shock that gendo is withstanding such extreme heat to save rei takes attention off the metaphor of love being blind / his view becoming warped by his love for rei. which i think is sort of brilliant, the fact that meaning is so layered in at every shot of this show is just incredible

is there a video where you talk about why, in context of nge, right to left movement is about regression? i have heard there are directional associations between right and left that have to do with reading- there is a study that showed people whose native language is written right-to-left tend to also read images right-to-left. so to them left is actually forwards, and right is backwards
