How much are property taxes for residents and non-residents?

On almost all of your videos I see comments about EU and European, and British and English. You people need to understand that when you are living in another country that the differentiation becomes irrelevant. Mainland Europeans are regarded as EU, anyone across the channel is regarded as English, because that is the language we speak. They do not learn to speak British, they learn to speak English, hence we are all English. That is how mainland Europe sees us. The terms British Isles, United Kingdom, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are not something that they concern themselves with. Once you have been living in Europe for years, you end up doing the same. It's just an island over the channel.

I was given the same advice many years ago when I bought a place for renovation, so always used SIRET registered tradesmen. I was also told that if you don't have receipts for work done, you can't claim it to offset capital gains. DIY ers buy materials all the time, and time isn't charged, so no receipts and everything between the purchase price and the selling price is a capital gain. I;ve no idea if these rules still apply.

Here's my experience. I had friends in France, stayed with them, and dreamed of living there. I was then made redundant in 2001 and had some cash. I gave them a ring, and drove down for a couple of days house hunting. Back then property was 'very' cheap. Long story short, I looked at many properties, some with an English girl who worked in an estate agent. They all required complete renovation. I could have bought a huge farmhouse with a couple of acres of land for 5000 francs. Problem was renovation costs, so I ended up buying a smaller place that was still three times the size of my UK house. Then the problems began, getting French tradesmen to work on the place was a huge challenge. It took me ten years to get it to the point where I could finish it off. I got scammed a couple of times, but luckily had the money to cover it. Living and working in the UK while work was being done was a bit of a nightmare. So I rented out my UK home, and moved down in April 2009. There was still a lot to be done, it was 35C and I was working 6am - 11pm. Kitchen, bathroom, complete internal painting, sorting out oak beams, and all while I was living in the place. By September I called it done. Then winter came. It was freezing, and I had nothing to do! By Christmas I was thinking of selling, by January it was on the market. Summer arrived in February, t shirt weather. I had spent so much on it that by the time I sold it I had probably just broken even. Been back in the UK since 2010, but it is now 2024, and well, I am now wishing I had stayed down there. Anyone in the UK will tell you why. Problem is that it is now more complicated to make the move, and I am older, so it would have to be a solid home, not a renovation job. My UK house (I moved three times since 2010) is on the market, and I am still trying to make my mind up about what to do?? I speak enough French to get by, but English speaking locals would be a bonus.

Why is the dishwasher sticking out so much ?? Awkward !!price seems a bit high for the size.the rooms are tiny in smaller unit with tight space between shower n sink. Very small yard.

This is what I love, when they leave it as close to original as possible. At least I assume that’s what it was like when this was built. I wish they would say what year these stone houses were built. but I also love plumbing and electric

Malgré un prix "raisonnable " pour les côtes d'Armor... il y a de sacrés travaux de mise aux normes et d'isolation à faire sans parler de déco 😅. Toute la clôture à faire également. Tout à l'égout j'espère car si ce n'est pas le cas... c'est à rajouter dans les frais. 😢

This house had to be the wallpaper sampler of every paper available in the 60’s or 70’s. I also noticed several rooms had some staining or water damage to the wood floor, but seemingly no ceiling damage.

I always knew that "the house would show me where I would move to start a new chapter. My name is Elise and now you know why this is the house. Is it still available?

The property link isn't working. I noticed there are two sets of stairs one from the kitchen and the other from the dinning room. Is the upstairs divided with one bedroom accessed from each set of stairs? I really love the layout of this house.

Do you say winters are worst in the south? I am divided about the normany/ brittany area and the provence area. Yes I understand provence is very warm in summer. But it's low humidity would make summers tolerable. So, looking at winters, I would prefer an area of least severe winters ( less cold ). Thanks for everyone's help.

It is not necessary to eat lead paint to be poisoned by it. The dust from flaking or chipped paint can also present a hazard to small children playing on the floor. Doing unsafe renovation or repainting might also spread contamination.

I think he meant expensive areas not cheap.. you can buy beautiful homes 2,000 ft² for under $150,000 US dollars!!!!!!? It's a buyer's market in France right now lots of British expats moving back to the UK
