STEELDRIVER STROKE LENGTH
Переглядів 2754 місяці тому
The stroke length on all my models is long, right around 5mm. I engineer these machines for stroke characteristics, not stroke length though. What that means is that my machines while they have a long stroke will likely not tattoo the same as another machine that has a similar stroke length. And you will always have more stroke than you need.
Tattoo machine torque

In this video I attempt to explain tattoo machine torque. There is some good fundamental information here, while there is so much more that could be elaborated on or addressed this is a great step in to a very complex concept.
CHARACTERISTICS OF A DYNAMIC STROKE

In this video I explain what a dynamic and non dynamic stroke is on a tattoo machine. There is so much more I could say, but ultimately wanted to make a quick easily digestible video.
Adjusting the Spring tension on the Steeldriver
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
This video shows how to adjust the spring tension on the Steeldriver yoke. This affects the force of the hit and allows you to tune the machine to your preference or to suit different tasks.

The different rotary models I make and what they are good for
Переглядів 11 тис.3 роки тому
This is a video of going through all my machine models and discussing what their characteristics.
are they both diffrent from your ghost 2stroke machine? what is the diffrences?
Both are completely different from the 2 Stroke. The 2 Stroke is a direct drive and while it does have the added function of having two different strokes, the stroke characteristics aren’t as refined as the Steeldriver and SC Bobber.
Great video
What a beautiful machine, looks amazing.
I had buy the sc bobber, abrasive for skin and no power… i had really lost my money with this machine, I don’t recommend at all
Sorry to hear that. I can tell you that’s not a typical experience at all. Most people feel the opposite. I wish you’d have reached out and I could have helped with trouble shooting, whether that’s looking in to user error or a possible defective or damaged machine.
Ouch!!
Sc bobber also has that?
Yes the SC Bobber has a dynamic Trike as well.
think the best one I tried with your machine is the stigma rotary comfy grip and kwadron or better yet black claw carts no issues aswell as the workhorse ones and the sugar tubes that south state are the best disposable option for your steeldriver and sidewinder mojobox Martin pintos machines
Just bought one on ebay that was the old oring type so im gonna order the yoke so i can upgrade so when the a bar is pushed down abd the screw is making its impact the cam center should be at between 10 and 11 clock
Some of the old o-ring style machines hve a different a-bar that isn’t compatible with the new yoke. If that’s the case you’ll have to send it in and I can replace the a-bar and get the yoke converted for you. You can always just send the machine in to get converted either way, that way I can make sure the machine is running properly, hasn’t been damaged in any way, and is tuned how it should be. E-mail me to arrange that if you want to go that route
Hi Josh, super good master class. Just to understand this well, in theory ( other of the benefits of cartridges ) a good coil machine will always be best for lining? Is this correct?
I’m saying the stroke characteristics of a well tuned coil are still the ideal. Which is why the Steeldriver and Sidewinders have become so popular, they emulate the stroke characteristics of a well tuned coil.
So much info in this video!!! Thank you for this, I do have one question though, how can we tell if a rotary machine has a dynamic stroke or not? Just ordered your steeldriver but the fk iron edge x(hopefully the steeldriver replaces it) the only rotary I could ever line with and I always wondered why
Thanks for the support! The spectra edge doesn’t have an engineered dynamic stroke. But it does have a 4.2 mm stroke available which would give you a good needle velocity which definitely helps. If you’re using the give setting those factors could produce a dynamic stroke depending on your setup and how much that carriage is moving independent of the cam.
Very informative but I really don't get this . In coils liner should be about 110-150 Hz so the stroke is quite small and its totally opposite in rotaries or even in hybrids. Why ?
Because the speed of a coil is dictated by the frame geometry and spring setup. Not all coil liners have a short stroke. But a smaller gap machine will typically run faster. Rotaries are different because the speed is dictated by the voltage and motor design. So it’s not relying on geometry for speed, so you can use that set cycle speed and translate it to needle velocity with the right setup/geometry.
Got mine the day before yesterday and did 2 tattoos with it , cartridge setup .. absolutely fantastic ! I normally use my kubin swingliner v2 , but this was dropping in my 11rs much easier… very happy with it ! 👌🏻👌🏻
Hi, which one may I ask?
@@W0303 I got the workhorse Irons SC Bobber edition
Steeldriver??
Great Machine! Do I see a Natas Kapas deck? Skateboard s and tattoos? Yes!!!
How much price this machine broo
Won't mess with the impact just the spring tension is were u want to adjust mine spits a bit with certain tunes but I noticed not putting a bend in plungers for carts takes care of this
Man is right on what makes the steel driver so great the impact screw makes it so it hits more efficiently by skipping the certain part of the stroke that dwell time is important when getting certain things right
Thank you!!!
I need a liner rotary.
How much bro
Awesome Joshua !! Game changers!!!thank you
Great video. Thank you so much
I have less spitting if I use a rubber band kinda angled up a bit
Great Video, thank you ! I would like to know how the machine performs espacially with small liners 3RL/5TRL in terms of lining and If theres enough stroke to do low voltage stippleshading. Greetings Marco
The Steeldriver is great for small grouping stippling and lining. Plenty of stroke and plenty of power at lower speeds to get nice crisp consistent patterning.
@@Bowerssupply Can it push fat 18 RS lines especially into a palm?
Ciao si può usare con gli aghi classici ?
All these models can be used with standard needle and tube setup.
Good insight! Thanks for the info!🤘
I use FYT cartridge setup on my steeldriver with FYT tubes, i sometimes get spitting. So what can I do to fix this issue when it occurs? Should i try rubber bands?
For sure try rubber bands. You can also put a little bend in your push rod to keep it down and hitting consistently. After that I’d take a look at your tube situation.
I snap the back off my cartage and put a slight bend. Too much bend will make it not return well so get it just right. Good vid btw.
I’ve also tried snipping the stem at a 45 so ouch rod will force the angle of the needle towards the back of tube as well. Helps stabilize needle and reduce. spitting as well. So much good info you have given. Thank you.
This machines the best rotary for the way I work the snap it has is just perfect
Same! Real happy with it.
So the strongest one lines worse than the weaker motor?
Correct. There’s much more to the stroke besides power that makes for a good liner.
@@Bowerssupply hmm, ok. Thanks for the reply.
@@dizzyhead4208 not power but snap is what he's saying cause the big can has alot of power but the snap is better for lines in the smaller motor cause of the mechanism but if u want power lines like no other try his steeldriver
I have the micro bobber and big can it's great but everyone u want the steeldriver it has the best snap and it reminds me of a perfectly tuned coil
I still have the black barrel one. Sadly it got messed up after a hurricane:(. Definitely buying a new one soon
I think if you have fast hands bowers two stroke and steeldrivers are made for that
ur steel driver I think is genius I get consistent lines for everything and I actually really like it for whip shading with a medium taper mag
No rubber bands ?
This is a cartridge setup. If the push rod stays on the a-bar without a rubber band then it doesn’t need one.
Would've rather heard the machine running then music.
And is it just as good with a standard needle bar instead of carts?
So would you have the positive on bottom for the two stroke? And when using it would you flip the clip cord between the solid shading and softer shading? Or just just adjust the voltage?
Both. Both the give and direct mode are capable of doing both lining and shading, what changes is the stroke dynamic and the feel. Your need for stroke differences has a lot of variables like type of skin, location, color vs. black and gray, individual preference, etc.... not just lining and shading.
