On 21st January 2025, ICEC-MCM hosted their last Lunchtime Webinar. Our guest speakers from the UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment (CGFI), Christophe Christiaen and Amani Maalouf, delivered a presentation on “Connecting Finance with the real economy: Asset-level data for the construction minerals sectors.”
If financial institutions are to support a transition to a more sustainable economy, they need to understand the real world footprint, risks and impacts of their investments. Asset-level data that connects the location and characteristics of physical production assets with ownership is a key building block to do so. The team at CGFI presented their work on developing open asset databases for the cement, steel and other industries and how these are being used to support green finance applications and decision-making.
More about CGFI: The UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment is a NERC funded, multi-university research programme to bridge the gap between environmental science and green finance practice. Within the Centre, researchers at the Spatial Finance Initiative create open asset databases for high impact industries and promote spatial analysis of a various sustainability risks, opportunities and impacts.
