TROPICAL GARDENING LATE NOVEMBER UPDATE
Interesting. I had been wondering if I could make tea from the camelia japonica shrubs in my yard - apparently I can!
Love it 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
The slugs love the brugs, dam things. Mine is in the greenhouse with lots of cuttings in a pot 😊
@@lorrainehodges9630 for some strange reason we’ve had very little slug damage this year. We haven’t used anything to stop them at all. I can only assume they’ve drowned or are preparing for a major offensive next year. Thanks for the advice though, I’ll look out for damage.
Nice one good work very enjoyable
Glad you enjoyed it
Ive just moved to a new property and this video is inspiring me to look into tropicals 😊
Go for it!

Gorgeous flowers 💐 Like 6 My friend thank you for good sharing. Have a good relationship
Biggest problem with these sheds is that they condensate in cold weather so any tools will get dripped on. I'll be sticking up 25mm(1") of polystyrene on the underside of the roof to try and prevent condensation. The panels sometimes don't link in correctly and leave a gap so I have used some blind rivets to pull them together after building. The UK weather is damp and we get a lot of rain so I have put in a damp proof sheet over the concrete the floored with OSB tongue and groove damp resistant flooring and capped that with a glued down rubber sheet use in the roofing industry. All the gaps at the bottom of the walls I have filled with a special sealant used for galvanised metal, do not used ordinary building silicone as it attacks the galvanised metal coating. To be perfectly honest I may have well bought a wooden shed without the hassle of a dripping roof
Yes, condensation is a problem. I just put a tarpaulin over everything as I don't access it on a daily basis. Still a good value shed though, no regrets
Very informative, I am in the process of adding as many water butts as I can in my garden.
Good idea! Your plants will benefit from that. The problem is always hiding them as they can be a bit intrusive, especially in a small garden. Thanks for watching and commenting
You got me with the video title spider mites!! New subscriber here and I can’t wait to watch all your comments.
Eewwwww ughhhhh. I thew a cannabis plant 🪴 that I had to keep spraying. But these ones are moving so fast. Damn 😅
Thank you for your detailed and informative video about these pests. I have had problems with them every once in a while over the last 10 years, but was never able to combat them properly. I hope some of your tips and tricks will help me keep them in check.
@@splithead6370 Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope the video helps you to keep your plants healthy
Wonderful, thank you for sharing ❤
Enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing 👍
This is beautiful thanks you; just wondering, does the pump make more noise than the water sprinkling?
@@CoralBalmoral you can’t really hear the pump at all

Thank you for posting this, I am just about to start my journey into greenhouses.. ordering what looks like the same as you..
@@MarkUK75 Greenhouses are a lot of fun and give you so many more growing options. Good luck with yours and thanks for watching and commenting
Take the rocks out of the bottom because of perching effect. The peat is very water retentive maybe cut it with third large perlite and third course sand.🙏🙏🙏
Omg thank you so much for this tip!
Figtrees love sharply draining soil ….that being said, they do enjoy “wet feet” but they seem to need inorganic things such as potassium silicate .
I typically use chelated iron with fish emulsion.
Must be amazing to have a scale standing next to plants. I'm a big fan
Interesting, is your exotic helper for hire? Just curious, what stops the panels from misting with condensation please?
No, and we don’t really have a problem with condensation. It’s proved to be quite a good greenhouse so far but it is in a sheltered spot with regard to wind.
Have u get a instruction book with IT i just get just no any instruction how bilded
I did have one but I’ve binned it.
Is that a monstera plant what you put there???
No, I don't think any of them were related to that plant
Can you please send me a picture of your sliding door, been working with it all day, just can’t figure it out.
Hi June, unfortunately the youtube comment section doesn’t have a photo ability but I’ve added some to my facebook page (Tropical Gardening ) . I hope they help.
Is there an update on your clematis here? Beings that should be in bloom or past bloom by now. I have a clematis Armand die that I planted a good couple of years ago and it hasn’t done much at all. It doesn’t get great sun, but it is south facing and it gets, a decent amount of sun midday. Trying to grow it up my pergola as well. Also, I have it covered over in gravel just as you have yours. I think one big problem is I’ve allowed weeds to compete for attention and energy. Crowding out the clematis This year I have pulled all those weeds out and have cleaned it up. Hoping that maybe I’ll get some growth this year. It has stayed around 1 to 2 feet tall and has not any taller. I was hoping that by this year, it would have climbed up, the post eight or 10 feet.
Strange to have poor growth. Mine is running rampant and should cover a lot of the pergola this year. Mine does have a couple of weak flowers on atm but we’re mainly after the foliage. It’s not in a particularly sunny spot and spends most of the morning in the shade of a conifer. Perhaps your soil is not suitable or maybe just a weak plant
Tetrapanax are fully hardy . Mine are planted out and have survived the last 3 years with no protection at all and my soil is not great either , it’s quite clayy
Fibreglass didn’t think of that. Doing it the same way but with lightweight cement🗿🤓
Yeah if you are not going to give some winter protection then this what happens, just a few fleeces and pop up greenhouses and some cheap sheeting makes all the difference and if you did do this you're garden would be better than it was before 😊
How is the shed since you built it? Have you found that it leaks at all? I've just ordered this model and I'm wondering do I need to use sealant around the edges. Many thanks for your video.
The shed is water tight but being metal you get a lot of condensation dripping off of the ceiling so I cover anything I want kept dry. I don't think you'll need sealant tbh
Hi thanks for the video im thinking of ordering one now but its a Augarden brand looks exactly the same its 3 meters by 2 meters . i want to build it in my workshop so i can take my time and have no interruptions with wind and weather and do it properly with sealant and brace it a bit more now my question is do you think this could be picked up by 4 people on each corner to move it say 50 meters, 150 ft with out it falling to pieces? Simple yes or no would be appreciated. Thanks
No Pressure then! I'd say yes
Lovely garden like the way you mixed traditional plants with the tropical plants and the red of the wooden features the pop of colour looks great thanks for sharing this and giving us inspiration
Thanks for posting this. I recently got one second hand. After dismantling it hastily in the rain, and with some of the bolts rusted and spinning in the grooves, it is a bit worse for wear. I had been looking at videos to try and identify the brand and it looks identical to yours; except the 6x8 model. Could you tell me what brand yours is so I can search for some instructions? Thanks, Gavin.
Hi Gavin, there is nothing written on the greenhouse but I bought it from ebay from a seller called UKWAREHOUSESALES. They still have some for sale on ebay atm. Hope this helps
Great video! I love my bamboo
Love the orange painted wall
It 's growing on me slowly. Just a bit of a shock at first! Without plants it feels like you're in b&q!
Thankyou for mentioning oak ridge. I’m only a few miles away and didn’t know it existed!
Well worth a visit. I’m going to return in the summer when they apparently have a lot m😅re plants out.
I had forgotten about Oakridge, thank you for the reminder
Thank you for sharing 😊
Very helpful, and useful advice in there too.
This is great! Do you happen to have a link for the pond pump?
lovely garden, great video
Thanks for your kind comments. I'm glad you enjoyed it
Ive a hardy kiwi vine and a hops and a old mans beard clematis wich of them would your think grows quickest and dose best i shade since im thinking about the placement since i got a small forest behind my house its shady wince its a forest and a fench next to my and my neighbours house up aginst our wall i what would you recommend of those i know i have 3 plants a 2 places but il find a place for all of them but wich would you recommend?. Realy gratefull for your clematis update i asked for. grate video👍👍👍
Thanks for checking out the video. The hardy kiwi vine, hops, and old man's beard clematis all bring something unique to the table! Hardy Kiwi Vine is a fast grower and can provide excellent coverage. It's also known for producing tasty kiwi fruits. If you're into quick results and fresh fruits, this might be your pick. They normally take over three years to fruit and the hardy one 'issai' does not need a male and female plant Hops are not only fast climbers but are also famous for their use in brewing. If you're a fan of ornamental plants with the bonus of potential homebrewing ingredients, hops could be the way to go although if left to climb into the trees then harvesting might be a problem! Old Man's Beard Clematis has a more moderate growth rate and charming flowers, the clematis is a great choice as it likes climbing through trees and hedges and is great for pollinators Considering your partial shade conditions and the forest backdrop, all three could work. Just think about what appeals to you most - rapid coverage, potential fruits, or beautiful blooms.
@@thelocalgardener Thx for the answer i will help alot lucky i still have alot of time to plan and il update you since i live in norway its quite cold il probably have to way until may for it soo il see how my plants are doing and update you.
What we did in our tropical style garden in January 2024
I was worried about bubble wrapping polycarbonate greenhouse as there’s already abit less lights intake compared to glass then the bubble wrap might lessen light intake further
I haven't found the decreased light an issue. In the winter the plants don't really grow much if at all. Maintaining the temperature seems to be much more important to keeping plants alive in a heated greenhouse. I just hope my greenhouse is still in one piece in the morning as we are having very high winds here atm, about 60mph!
