If I remember correctly the oil filter screwed into the oil cooler which was supplied with water around it from the cooling system! Your bike should deffo have a radiator and water pump and conventional cooling system if it’s a gk76a… what year is your bike??? I’m proper interested now 👍🏼

@dukabear2640 yeah was a bit 🤣👍 tbf without the mechanical and road closure we’d have saved maybe 2 hours but it’s a fair old ride on a&b roads only

Luckily I got away with the suspension although the shock looks horrendous it’s still doing it’s job… the carbs were a mess and the tank became a bit of an in joke in a couple of whatsupp groups… did you keep the bike??

A 50cc scooter is a great tool for a youngster as a learning tool until they are 17 and can step up to a 125cc, how old are you? Dan is 6ft but weighs closer to 11 stone.. he didn’t look daft on his scooter

@user-ed9mf5yi2o tbf mate if I’m being honest I wouldn’t bother with a fifty at 57, the cbt would be a doddle for you and you’d be bored of a 50cc scooter by teatime! You’d get massively more pleasure out of a 125cc bike or scooter for similar money

The service intervals are 4000miles and maintenance is very easy, the 5 speed one has an oil filter which makes it even easier than a 4 speed one it’s just I preferred the 4 speed.. they are easy to look after too and if your commute is easy going it’ll be great to commute on!! For me my commute is longer and the bike was more for pleasure but the Honda monkey is a fantastic bike and can go anywhere! Although I steer clear of motorways 👍

Well you see here’s the thing, if I was being honest and Dan would say the same, a 50cc bike/scooter is a great place to start as a 16year old getting out on the road but I’d say go for a 125 of some description as they are immeasurably better machines! I’d always point you towards a Honda if you want good build quality and reliability! Do you 100% want a scooter though? Or are you open to a geared bike? Or even something semi automatic?

@DuncanMcArthur-l7l go and have a go on one doing your cbt 👍 tell them what your idea is and they’ll let you try both a 50 and 125, then you’ve deffo got the game plan then… I’ve been riding 30 odd years and I’m proper loving 125’s all over again… they are great fun!! Ey up its dans dad here, once your lad has done his cbt just get him sorted and get out there with him!! You’ll both love it… pick quieter roads to go get him some confidence and he’ll be away… has he got his provisional licence yet????

@@NorthernMotovlog Hi …. He’s not done his CBT yet….he’s not 16 until January but I’m already looking for a decent first bike for him. I used to have a bike years ago (Suzuki DR125) and loved it, never went on to get the full license unfortunately though.

@Yorkshireghostguy so the cbt at 16 will get him on a heavily restricted 50cc machine but a year of playing on one of them and the jump up at 17 to a 125cc will be ace for him if he enjoys 2wheels… 125’s are bloody good fun… just be prepared for hefty insurance bills for young uns…

@@NorthernMotovlog That’s going to be the issue I think….the insurance. There are some bargain bikes out there which surprised me.

Find a couple you like the look of and shop round for his insurance, a ground anchor and chain in the garage are a must too! Remember when we were young? Third party fire and theft insurance is the way forward again… good luck mate… get out there with him on a 125 of your own 👍
