This section of the trip was very scenic. Took route 14 and 14 ALT through northern Wyoming. Stops included Sheridan, Lovell, Greybull ,and ending the day in Cody,WY. Stopped for lunch at Spotted Horse. Hope the videos aren't too boring now that we are not in the T anymore but the trip is still enjoyable.

Drive across Nebraska and South Dakota

Picked up the first passenger. Not as much talking in this video but just more scenic driving through the backroads of America. Made it into Murdo, SD. Just going over some preventative maintenance checks and a couple adjustments. Ran into the first rain of the trip luckily only 15 minutes. The hotel we stayed at had a T parked in the garden. I was not planning on that either it just worked out...

So many traffic lights

Left Chicago and caught almost every traffic light along the way. Next stop is Sioux City Iowa. Cross the Mississippi river today so we are moving right along. Heading down the Lincoln Highway with a couple zig zags in between and a gravel road that I dont know the name of. 1926 Ford Model T

Finally made it into Chicago. So far everything is going smooth. Took a little more scenic route in through the city due to a gps malfunction but I wasn't to concerned. Stay tuned to see what is in store for the next day. 1926 Ford Model T, Lincoln Highway, Lake Shore Drive Chicago
Starting the Cross Country Trip

Well the title pretty much sums it up. Started the cross-country trip in the Model T. We'll see how far we make it. This thing gets better gas mileage then I thought.

Ford Model T kingpin replacement

This video kind of cuts off short but it shows a little bit of assembly and disassembly as well as installing the new bushings. I ended up having to ream out the new bushings a litte but it wasn't that bad. Had to leave the passenger side tire sit like that with no kingpin because I lost track of time and had to leave for work. Hope you enjoy. Oh yeah don't forget to subscribe so you get notifi...

Building new spring hangers for front axle and installing new bushings. Getting closer to the trip and getting things ready. Still a few more things to do to the front axle to get it more reliable. Stayed tuned for more and subscribe if you haven't already because things are going to get more fun in the coming videos with not just garage work but for the cross country trip. 1926 Ford Model t

Thanks for this. I'm getting ready to do this myself. How hard was it to get the old bushings out?
Not to bad at all
What happened to the videos? How did the rest of your trip go?
Mobil antiknya itu di produksi tahun berapa, dan apakah masih menggunakan mesin aslinya..?
Have never seen anyone do that job with the wheel attached; is that an advantage? Also using a drill to ream the bushings is pretty hard on your reamers. Seems like the flat surfaces of the bushings have a gap when you installed the king pins. Was it tight enough to prevent front end wobbling? So many red flags.
What is your cruising speed? Looks like you are moving along pretty good. I became the proud owner of a 1926 Tudor early this month.
Not enough threads, should be flush
Lock washers always go on nut side not bolts side
Nothing like adjusting the bands . I had a problem coming down a mountain with the brakes . After that I went to Kevlar bands and loved them . Since then I have went through everything on mine and added new things . Now she has a rebuilt transmission , warford 920-1 auxiliary , ruckstell rear end . Disc brake kit on the rear with floating hubs . Also went through the engine . Ever make it to Virginia look me up .
Hmmmmmm music ain't bad my friend
Thank you for posting this video. I will be following your example soon for my 1917 Maxwell 25.
What is the part # to wilwood disc brake kit for the Model T. Thanks!, good video!
2565C. I got them at langs. There are a couple of different parts numbers depending on the year of car and type of car.
how do i go from a 8 bolt wooden spindle wheel to a steel 5 bolt wheel I have a 1930 plymouth with wooden wheels and need to replace them with steel wheel for better driving on hard roads''''
Thanks so much for taking the time to make this
The crazy 🤪 pricing on this conversion , new or used, is beyond the total worth of these T's. It's pure robbery to have a tire and wheel conversion be costing half the worth of these T's. So I am on journey down a different path. Like the Scat cranks they capitalize on our stupidity. But hey, you like these old cars you got to pay the price.
Update on my search. I ended up adapting Ford 8N tractor hubs and wheels . The front was easy because the bearings are exactly the same dimensions, only had to make 1/2 inch shims to reach out because the T's spindles are longer and I also needed a seal race. The rear is coming along good. Machining the 8N front hubs to fit over the rear T's axle hubs. Tires will be 155/70r19 BMW i3 tires mounted on new 8N 3x19 wheels ...total investment so far 750$ for wheels, hubs, and tires. Eventually an auxiliary transmission and rear disc brakes will be fitted to take advantage to this setup from the money i saved. 27.5 inch diameter tires verses 30inch. The look is coming out looking good, like the early 3 lug steel disc wheel setup offered back in the 20's but much nicer and safer with lower to ground look. True I have traded off the horse wagon spoke wheel look , but definitely a much better and safer T for these modern roads.
Good lord I've never seen more fumbling around. This could have been a 60 second video
Lovely scenery-- Lovely drive.. How far did you travel and what speed- i imagine around 35 mph.. cheers from australia
I made a MPH gizmo with an Arduino and, using the stripes in center of the road spaced every 40 feet, it looks like he's doing around 43 MPH in places, assuming the video timing is accurate. 🙂
It's very important to use talcum powder when installing an inner tube. We use Johnson's baby powder when we do aircraft wheels, since it;s readily available. You slather the inner tube with talc and also pour some into the tire and rub it all around the inside. The idea is that when you install the tube it will slide about easily and find its own position during installation and as you first begin to run on the tire. IT will also prevent the tube from getting a wrinkle or fold. The other thing it does is prevent the valve stem being torqued over if the tire goes soft and you run on it. Without the talc the inner tube will squirm inside the tire and will often cause the stem to split where it passes through the hole in the rim. That gives you a nasty and hard-to-fix puncture.
i need help in getting the name f the maker for these adapters for my car thank you
do you think you can tell me where to get the adapters from thanks;;;;;
where do you get the conversion kits from;; what company i want to go from wood to steel my self thanks
Langs old car parts
I would like to watch you work but I will not listen to that noise that you probably call music
You can get a set of shackles for less than $30
Bad music!
You should check out the north dakota badlands by medora their very impressive its where president Theodore roosevelt had his ranch pretty historic place
I have a 1926 coop as well the whole engine as well as everything else except wiring is original on it
That looks to be a 1926 if im correct
I put a screen/magnet under the cover on the two I have so if their is anything floating around in their it will in most cases catch it
How do you have yours set up to go that fast id love to take one of mine cross country
Sorry to see the trip to end for the car, but the adventure continues. It's hard to tell what might go wrong with these old cars. I kept getting water in my oil even though I had replaced the head gasket. I finally found a rust hole in the block. I'm sure you are disappointed. Try again this summer.
What hub adapter did you use and why
I used the wood wheel to wire wheel adapter. I did so because I may want to put the wood wheels back on some day.
Are those model a wheel your installing? What become of the wood spoke wheel's?
No these are Model T wheels. The wood spoke wheels I still have and someday may go back on.
@@crosscountryt4983if u ever want to part with any of those split rims let me know. Vping
Well darn. Hope you can get that rod sorted out.
Atleast now I know what things to avoid during next engine rebuild but still a great trip
Sorry to see that. You made it a long way though!
Yeah sure did. Can't wait to try it again some other time. I think it was a combination of things that led to failure. I'll keep you guys posted on what I end up finding.
I've spent a lot of time in the part of Iowa where you are. My dad's family is from Traer, Tama county. Nice video and nice car. What difference did the wire wheels make?
The wire wheels make a night and day difference. Very smooth ride and no shaking at higher speeds. I miss the wood wheel look but I was willing to sacrifice it for the ride quality on such a long trip.
Glad to see you're still at it.
Yep good times
I'm really impressed. The old T is doing great! I'm torn between restoring mine or just driving it the way it is. Everybody says to leave it the way it is, but it does need a top and interior. Check it out at ua-cam.com/channels/SEewSYLq8eLN4bEfbsSbOg.html
Glad to see you posting again. The old T is holding up pretty well.
Yeah I should be getting videos out a little quicker now. I can't believe how fast 3 weeks go by
I started watching your channel when you were working on the rear end thought it was coming along nice. I would understand Making shackles if you couldn't get new ones
Hi where are you located
Northeast Ohio
If you don't mind me asking who do you use for vendors when buying new parts
Snyders antique auto and if they don't have it, I usually go with Langs old car parts
@@crosscountryt4983 thanks ill contact them about a catalog
I am wondering what your average speed is. My 27 coupe is happy at 28 mph.
With the warford in 3rd gear on flat ground about 42-45 mph. My speedometer reads higher then I'm actually going
Enjoying the trip! Hope it's still going good.
Welcome to Iowa!
Very much interested in how this trip will work out although I can't hear anything you say over the background noise.
yeah the microphone I bought for the camera was supposed to cut out wind noise but I guess not. I'm new to the whole camera thing also but I'll work on it
You will drive within walking distance of my house.
From where to where?
Northeast Ohio to Portland Oregon is the plan
My father and I have been restoring Model Ts for the past 50 years since I was 15 years old. Through the years we have collected and made many tools to help the work. This past weekend together with my 30 year old son we pressed out the old tie rod bolt bushings and pressed in 9/16” ID 11/16” OD 1” Long oilite bronze bushings instead of the steel bushings. After reaming the bronze bushings with a 9/16” straight flute hand reamer, the new tie rod bolts fit perfectly. A minor recommendation, grease fittings will seem like a good idea to lubricate your spindle bolts. Be aware that the grease will not reach the bottom spindle bolt bushing. The grease will only squeeze out the top flange space and never reach the bottom bushing. It is better to stick with the oil cups and use oil lubrication on a regular maintenance routine. Lesson learned from old Model T mechanics and years of personal experience.
Hope you have a good trip!
Just came across your channel today! So happy I did.Ill be following you everyday you post. Love what your doing!
Thanks for following along
why a periscope vid? unwatchable
I would suggest you install the hubs in the rear wheels before you place them on the car. You can then use a punch to push down the tabs and the hub will be tighter and less likely to rattle around.
Ok thanks I'll have to remember that next time I take them off. Hopefully it's not to soon meaning no problems
How are you raising the frame to allow working on the springs? Is it a jack under the engine pan?
No it's under the framerail
