Quick connect install on a Pro Kit. Web address in the description to order.
What is it use for exactly
To make wiring racecars easier.
Shit I wish the one i ordered from you guys would have looked like that. I honestly haven't even installed the one i got from you because it wasn't user friendly and I was waiting to order a real fusebox rather than the inline fuses and relay holders that are all connected to a 2x3 piece of plastic with a power stud.
Sorry that you feel that way. We were trying to keep it as budget friendly as possible while still providing a good product. Our other customers have said it was easy to install and worked well. Having said that, we do have a return policy and you could return the one you purchased and purchase this one.
When you buy this, you might wanna swap that final ground wire with at least the same guage as the main positive.
Why do you say that? The ground only serves to complete the circuit to TRIGGER the relays, less than 5 amps total. If you calculate 5 amps at 12” length, the wire size that technically could be used is smaller than 22ga. Now if you were going to be grounding more stuff to the fuse box, then yes you would need to change to a heavier gauge wire, but the kit is not designed for that.
100% Agree. Ground total should be at least equal to or more than the power. 🤷
For the component itself (fuel pump, fans, water pump), yes the ground wire would have to be the same size as the power wire. But the ground wire you are seeing on this board is only for triggering the relays. These relays draw around 200ma to turn on. That is around 2 amps total for all 10 relays. So less than 5 amps is running through that ground wire.
@@HowertonPerformance Alrighty, thanks for straightening me out. I didn't come across quite like I had intended, I am just tired of being inundated with misinformation and b.s. from people who should never miss lead others. But that's where the money is I suppose. So if I jumped the gun and didn't process what I was seeing, my bad.
@Toyotajunkie No problem. We totally understand being aggravated by companies that mislead. That’s why we try to be as upfront with people as possibly, but it’s hard to fit ALL the info that we need to in a video short enough for people to watch and not fall asleep lol. We have nothing to hide and so when someone asks a question we try to explain the best that we can. Definitely no hard feelings on our end 🤝
Where are the flyback diodes?
These versions do not have fly back diodes, they are mainly designed to be used with switches. If you are concerned about voltage spikes then they would need to be installed or our PCB based Monster Board could be used.
Do you have a link to this board on your website?
It is not on our website right at the moment, it is preorder for the next couple weeks. If you preorder you get a free 12ft wiring bundle ($100 value).
Just added it: www.howertonperformance.com/product/monster-board/23?cp=true&sa=true&sbp=false&q=false
is that positive triger??
You mean the solid state relay? You can use it to PWM nitrous, transbrake, or even fans and fuel pumps.
I order the mid level kit with the street light(turn signal and light) but my question is how can you wire the mid level kit with a stand alone harness? (aces killshot)
Thank you for your order! We should start assembling in the next few days. Basically the Mid-Level kit will turn on the ECU. If you want the ECU to trigger any of the circuits (fans, transbrake, nitrous) then we can wire some of the circuits with ground trigger.
Can you make one for offroad race truck?
We have a 6 relay box that is waterproof. Other than that it would have to be a custom kit.
@@HowertonPerformance I want a pushbutton start. Swiches to get truck running then accessories. How should I start?
Excellent video
Thank you!
Great video Sir, very neatly setup and very easy to set up in the car/truck, I used an old polyurathe bread cutting Board as the backing plate for my fuse box setup in my Boat.
Thanks! Whatever gets the job done, we use 3/16” abs plastic sheet. It is flexible enough to not crack, but sturdy enough to mount everything on securely.
Nice.
Thanks!
I need that with my FT600!!!
We can probably figure something out 😜
Can you do a custom build, I need something to power my oil cooler, radiator, water pump, roof lights, bumper lights on my desert race truck, I'm also running a Holley terminator x
Also, can the solid state relay be used for two step (it's what I use for a pit speed limiter)
We can do a custom build for you. The solid state can be used for just about anything really, we just normally use them for transbrake or nitrous.
Looking forward to getting one of these for my fox body
Any questions, just reach out and ask!
They are great for wide open throttle but to drive and idle very much, they just aren’t practical
That’s what I’ve heard, throttle is too sensitive for cruising. This is a drag only truck for now anyways.
Love your guys products. My wiring looks awesome
Thanks! We really appreciate hearing that!
Check for vacuum leak
I believe the throttle blades need peened on the ends to lower the idle. It was running so rich that any adjustments I made would make no difference, otherwise I would suspect a vacuum leak.
Small block, yes, but that exhaust 🤔 no not for me the carb was the one to have a long time ago
Not our preferred exhaust either, but it’s what came with the truck when we traded, so it will have to do for now.
I've learned that when and if you get it just right. You have left a lot of hp on the table.
We’ve heard that, but we’ve also heard from some very experienced people that ran them that they outperformed all other carbs, so we just thought we’d see for ourselves.
@@HowertonPerformance please let us all know what you find out about performance.
Does it have Constant power and Ignition power?
The fuse box in the middle has constant power, unless you have a kill switch.
Screw the fools injection. Carbs for life! Rock on 😁🤙
Carbs are pretty cool 😎
Cool buddy, but when your brakes fail because of boiling.... well just remember how cool it was... back then..😅
Hoping the brakes don’t fail!!
That beast makes a manly sound !
Thanks! It’s just a mild build though.
Electric water pump?
Yes. Electric water pump, fan, and fuel pump.
Also Referred To As The Toilet!!🤷🏻♂️
Or toaster oven carb.
Good luck, it will never end. Just go efi allready jeez 😂
I figured we’d try it and see 🤷🏻♂️
Haven't seen one of those in decades 😅
Oh yeah, they’re definitely old and have a niche.
Self Learn EFI is always rite . More fun driving unless UR Goal is Carb Zen.
I figured we’d just try it and see.
What headers are these?
Hookers, but not sure what model number. They came with truck.
Looks like it is running good but once on the road this is a blower carb. It will be super hard to make it work smoothly on a non blower engine. It will not atomize very well without a blower. Try a tunnel ram Victor Jr intake.
It’s a drag only truck, so we will just be driving in pits and then wide open on the track. If it was a cruiser, I would probably change to something else. These carbs have been known to be good on NA motors though, so we are just trying to see how we like it.
@@HowertonPerformance that should work great then. The predator carburetors love to run wide open.
My favorite carb of all time! Can anyone tell who was the first to use this carb in a show setting? Or movie?
Not sure that I could tell you if it was the very first one, but I know that Elvis used some kendig carbs in a movie or ad once.
Sounds stock...nice tho..
It’s modified, but just mild.
Had 2 of these on a blown sbc. Donovan block w/ brownfield heads. BDS roller cam. 720 HP untuned breaking in on old dyno @ Houston Balancing and Engine. Luther Costales was THE man. RIP old friend 🏁
Awesome! Sounds like a killer build!
It looks really nice, clean 🤙🏼
Thanks, but we still have some cleaning up to do 😅
Predator Carb ❤❤❤❤
😎💪
I think you may need the kit that relocates the cable and the linkage to the other side of the carb. My friend had one of those on a 70 Olds Vista Cruiser 455 engine. Never could get it to run right with the linkage that you're using. I know just changing the linkage to the other side doesn't make much sense, period. But it made a world of difference in his car. He was using it simply to be different. Hardly anybody runs those anymore. It got such bad mpg that we tore it off and installed a Holley 750. I think it ran better with the 750 carb. Another thing is that it just pours fuel,a lot of fuel, possibly more than the engine can burn. It could wash the rings out if it's not tuned correctly, and you just drive it anyway.
We have the other linkage as well, but everyone that we have talked to said the bowl needs to be pointing front especially for drag racing. We have done some modifications to get the AFR in the correct range, but still are working to get it tuned just right. It was dumping WAY too much fuel at first and fouling plugs.
Well TomConner has the set up in what he says.We tried one of those beasts back when they first hit the market. Ide was tough the throat on that thing delivers a massive amount of fuel air,and getting it to mix and atomize correctly prior to delivery to cylinder requires a manifold that does just that. It worked best on a big block Chevy ran through a tunnel ram and velocity stack.
We might have to change to a higher rise intake, but we do have a 1” spacer under it at the moment. We have done some modifications to get the AFR where it needs to be, it was dumping way too much fuel to begin with and fouling plugs.
A guy I knew had those carbs on a tunnel ram on a BBC when they were new to market and it ran great, I personally don't know much about them.
Tuning one of those is the work of a lifetime.
It very simple operating, but also complex to tune. We have definitely had to do some research to figure it out.
Close enough. Lol.
First thing is you need an intake with a tall open plenum like an Edelbrock Victor, or Victor Jr. or single carb tunnel ram, an MSD 6AL2 and a super high output ignition coil such as an MSD or Accel chevy shaft housing with the Chrysler/AMC cap for clearance, MSD Blaster 2 power tower coils, and a beastly set of Highly Insulated wires (Make sure #5 & #7 have plenty of space between them) A big cam and huge free flowing headers with unrestricted exhaust, and hotter plugs. The flap seals need to fully close over the racks. Remember that’s a 930 CFM gas hydrant, if you have it on a stock 350 you’re asking the engine to do quite a bit of guzzling, make sure your port intake runners, manifold runners and intake valve diameters are as large as possible so you don’t have too much intake air velocity, the larger the open plenum and slower the flow at the base of the carb, the more accurate the fuel mixture and carb venturi will match the engine’s needs, balls out they are a hard charging Carburetor try getting two of them on a tunnel ram to work! My best advice, put it on the suck side of a blower or turbo for the best results. Also, I made new backfire flappers out of a sheet of Teflon Film, and then when I messed them up accidentally, I cast a set out of High Temp RTV Silicone after tracing them onto a plastic cutting board, using a routing base on a dremel to the right depth and added fiber latch hook mesh in the center that I cut out for reinforcement. Less likely to burn especially when heated during curing time, i used spray wax for a release agent on the mold, wax paper and an Iron on low to mash it into the recesses, then used a light bulb about 10” away. This was before carbon fiber and Kevlar were readily available
We have the ignition to run it, but might have to switch over to a higher rise intake. We have a 1” spacer under it to help out with atomization though. I’ve heard of them running good on smaller engines, but with modifications. Since they are variable Venturi, they will only draw as much air/fuel as the motor demands, up to a certain point at least. We have done a few modifications to get AFR where it needs to be on this 408. Good idea on the backfire flaps though!
I was a regular at Predator East in Lakewood N.J. Does it run rich at idle? Does it have the street Idle circuit? The only way to tailor the fuel is through the nozzle bar, (by replacing it with a leaner or richer one) the accelerator pump, and Idle circuit ( I drilled the orifices plugged the access holes then drilled and tapped the metering screw hole.
It does not have the idle circuit. It was running super rich through the whole range h til we epoxied a few of the holes in the spray bar. We have learned at lot since first getting it.
What size board is that and what's the thickness?
12” by 12” that is 3/16” ABS. Flexible enough to conform to slight curvature of firewall and not crack, but stiff enough not be flimsy.
Nice even got an old school predator carb!
Still working to tune it, but we like it!
You know it sounds good when it messes with me microphone
Kinda wish it didn’t, but it does make it seem mean 💪
It isn't even running. Doesn't move when he hits the throttle and the fan isn't turning. Bs
Look at the alternator, The fan is electronic.
It’s definitely running, even a little rich. Look at the right side when we rev it, it shoots fuel out exhaust. Fan is electric.
Sick set up 🤙
Thanks! Needs a little tuning still though.
I mean it sounds good. But best sound I will ever hear. I don't know man. I've heard monster trucks and alcohol dragsters and IHRA mountain motor promots so I don't know about the best. I can tell you whoever put a compression fitting in that brake line right there probably have suffered some sort of severe head injury
I agree that I love the sounds of those things. Alcohol funny cars are one of my favorites. Us being on a low budget, this is the best sound we will ever hear though, or at least for a while 😅
Sometimes (like with many temp sensors to trigger electric fans) you need to trigger sone relays with a ground trigger rather than a 12v switch. You should provide an explanation of this in your video as well as in your kit instructions. Otherwise really good video.
We have built lots of kits that are ground trigger for use with ECUs or ground switches. Most of the time if someone is needing something like that they will contact us. But yes, we should probably explain that on our website before people order.
Steering?
The steering shaft goes through the headers.
@@HowertonPerformance I've done the same. Nice truck man.
@@joethomas6457thanks! It’s still a work in progress 😅
I think the key to my bill at least was changing the motor mounts to shuffle the motor another inch further back to get a full size engine driven clutch fan then I never had a problem again with that
I had multiple engines in my S10 back in the day but one of the first ones was a high output 305 that ended up with a manifold on one side from a Pontiac and on the other side from a Oldsmobile or something all about getting around that steering linkage
looking good Montana, small issue, and your back in business. Thanks for the video
We think we have the alternator figured out, but we are working through some more small issues. Just trying to get it ready for the track 🤪
