Great video, but honestly, this isn't unique to today's hip hop. Women have always been sexualized in hip hop. Most weren't artists, but every popular video had sexy women. Also, we can use artists like MC lyte, Queen Latifah and even Yo-Yo, but to be honest, no one puts female rappers in their all time top 10, let alone top 5. Female rappers in the 80's and 90's had to either roll with a male counterpart or mc crew. Or, they had to be extra "hard" or nasty. Honestly, most hip hop fans never gave a real lyrical mc a chance. The industry knows how to use female artists, they promote them by their sexiness. Look around, there's no female Biggies, hell no female Jay-Z's, they have to look a certain way to even last. Also, you've always had men using sex appeal without any issues. Artists like LL Cool J and Big Daddy Kane leaned into it and still got respect. You also had artists like MC Brains singing Oochie Coochie La La La, and we all know about the 2 Live Crew. I think the biggest difference today is its easier to make music or videos, so they're everywhere. The genre is saturated. There's more camera phones as well so videos of kids singing and dancing to adult themed songs are more prevalent. Bottom line, nothing is MORE sexualized today, it's always been here. Maybe it just hasn't been correctly addressed or countered enough.

Great points. I actually spent a day or two trying to remember the term “race hustler” which I had honestly forgotten after seeing Dr. Umar’s pandering, slanderous and lie filled speech at Albany that you ironically just referenced here. That was the last straw for me with him. He told so many lies I can’t take him seriously anymore. The problem with our community is the lack of leadership. And you hit the nail on the head when you said the difference between these new guys and the Martin’s, Malcom’s and Marcus’ is that they are 100% reactionary! And that goes for Jessie, Sharpton and especially this new fo ol made famous for losing cases landmark cases who can barely speak, Ben Crump. They end up doing the blk community a huge disservice by playing off of our emotional state after tragedies. We need new leadership in our community and we need to stop letting these clowns speak for us.
