    You played the best you ever have against him. Well done! In the beginning, you did so very well keeping the ball consistently deep. It gave him a lot of trouble because he was playing further back than he probably wanted to play. You were also much more patient this time, not trying too soon to pull the trigger on a shot that wasn't there to hit. When you were up 5-2, I can only guess that you started to think about the score? Because form that point on, your level started to drop. You were making a lot more errors, which he seemed to sense. So he just locked down and decided to play steady, high-percentage tennis and give you almost no errors himself. That's how he got back into the set. But overall, you did much better in execution for the first part of this set. BTW, what the hell are you doing wearing long sleeves?? It's JULY in Vegas!! 🤣. Nick

      He did play better and better and games got tight. I had enough opportunities but I didn’t adjust my game to close the set. About the weather, the sun is so intense in Vegas that the long sleeves protect my skin and actually keeps me cooler than if I was completely exposed…I think…haha

    Robert is a very tricky opponent. He has a large wingspan and is able to conserve his energy well by being in position on most shots. He can also slice short angles and pull you off the court while also being able to hit that forehand either deep down the line or short cross court and then come to net. What was your strategy Sandrato? From what I can guess you tried to rally and wait patiently for a ball to attack and close him off at the net.

    • @sandratoplaystennis
      @sandratoplaystennis 8 днів тому

      Yes I was rallying and got aggressive on higher balls. Next time I’ll probably keep rallying with him to the backhand until I get a floater and then go hard on the forehand and come in.

    Nice playing Sandrato! I enjoy this series of videos showing this continued match up and your thinking/development of it. I think some things are still true about this matchup, for example you don't want to be getting into BH slice battles with him (like at 12:21). I think you could see this match up as an opportunity to work on FH technique to generate some higher topspin shots to his BH which he will struggle with under pressure I imagine. Happens to all of us but you def got tentative in your shotmaking when you were trying to serve it out (like your dropshot at 9:54). He's a seasoned player and they are often great at taking the match by the horns once they see their opponent wavering. At 12:36 I'm not an expert on approaches but i think you probably want to split step on the approach here. I'm always surprised at how much topspin the 5.0 can generate with his FH grip. Good set, respect the grind!

    What a set! Your footwork and forehand have improved so much. You move very efficiently around the court. This was a wild set! You constructed points early on so well and then your opponent started settling down into his slice backhand getting the ball away from your forehand which made it harder for you to dictate points. Such a close one! You both played very well it was an enjoyable watch!

    Slice and touch players are tough to beat from the baseline because they force you to generate your own pace and you end up tired out. What you could do with your current skillset is hit heavy high spin crosscourt until he gives you a short ball. Then approach aggressively to his backhand. It's hard for slicers to pass you because they don't drive the ball fast. Just make sure you bend your knees and don't let the ball drop too low when volleying a slice. Other than that, you should be able to dictate the point this way.

    Hi Sandrato! From memory, it seems you played this match much better than the last few against him. The Serve Volley seemed to work well for you, so congratulations on trying new things against someone so consistent. It struck me watching him, as to what makes him so tough: his preparation is near perfect. Every time, he has his racquet back early and in position to execute the shot he wants to hit. He's really, really good! Again, you improved a lot against him this time. Congratulations for that!!😊

    I currently play with a Pro Staff 97 v13, wirh weight at 3, 9, 12 and in the butt cap. Not as heavy as the RF. I love it! Incredible precision and plow-through. Also fantastic for my OHBH. I've demo'd virtually every racquet, including the Vcore 95. Luv how whippy it is. Unfortunately, its not stable enough. It loses most collisions with the ball. Given that you also play with the same Pro Staff, I highly recommended that you try the 2023 Head Prestige Pro. Very comfortable, maneuverable, and stable. It has superb precision, and never loses ball collisions. Even in stock form. No lead tape required. It even offers good spin for a 18x20 string pattern. I hear theres a 16x19 version of that too, but i have yet to try that one.

    yes. you play short. possible reasons : you never practice against better opponents, so such speead is unusial for you and you is to late. and you play also not fast enough. try to play against your opponent so fast you can, but without misstackes. you is to brave, sometimes you can try to hit return winners, because his serve is not great.

  • @qtancourt371
    @qtancourt371 29 днів тому

    He was really good. You're right to work on depth. One of the biggest reasons any of us hit short is tension in the arm. I don't know if this applies to you specifically, but in general it does for a lot of us. The swing isn't loose and free, so the kinetic chain is stifled. When you say in this clip that you feel you need to "take more chances" and also "hit harder", I offer a cautionary note. A woman who used to be the teaching pro at Bally's hotel in Vegas for a long time - Annie Rockwell - explained the difference between a 4.0 player, and a 4.5 or 5.0 legit player: the 4.5 or 5.0 player doesn't necessarily hit the ball with more pace, but they DO hit the ball with more accuracy. They know exactly where they want to (or need to) put the ball, and they have the skill to put it there more often than not. The higher level players learn how to do both: accuracy with power. But accuracy has to come first. Rather than "take chances" or "hit harder", it might be better to muscle memory where exactly you want the ball to go. When that's set, then work on adding pace. Your opponent was all about that. He knew exactly where to put the ball. You can learn how to do that too. Just my two cents worth (and that's all it's worth 🤣). Nick.

You seemed to be on the defense which is not a bad thing but I would work on advancing your counter punching. it worked on him but if you play a more consistent player that hits like this and its gonna be trouble. glad to see you are back

      I was actually thinking about what is my “identity” as a tennis player. Counter punching seems to be my default tendency but I’m now working on a more aggressive game by playing closer to the baseline and moving in. He is a very aggressive player so he naturally puts me in a more defensive position. I don’t want to counter fire with more fire because I can defend well enough. The big key in this match was to return deeper. That would have neutralized his attack. A player who can attack like him with more consistency is simply a very high level player (UTR 10+)

      @@sandratoplaystennis that’s a good point that if a player like himself were more consistent he would just be above your level. Makes more sense to work on things to play your level and a bit better. Yeah for sure that’s a huge mistake people do is try to not play their “game” with playing someone else’s game. But yeah coming in the net after a good angle could apply even more pressure for him to miss

    A pleasure to watch. And congratulations! Early on I saw the same thing I saw in your other videos: your shots were landing mostly around the service line. I thought (at the beginning) "Uh oh...". I remember when I would hit with you on my trips to Vegas, your depth was so consistent. So I was puzzled. But at this match went on, he started making a lot more errors in the 2nd and 3rd sets. Which makes your strategy of hitting consistently a huge asset. With guys like him who hit so big, you're kind of at their mercy if you can't hit as big and as hard as they do. When those type of big hitters are "on", then it's really tough. But when they go "off", consistency wins the day. He started to go for big shots that weren't there to be hit as the match went on, so his errors piled up. That's the beauty of tennis. You don't always have to win your own points outright. Your opponent's errors are just as beneficial. You did very well here. You should be very proud!!

      Glad you enjoyed! You’re spot on regarding depth: he has a big first serve and a high percentage of serve in. Thus he got a lot of short return that he exploited with his forehand. As the match went on, I returned better and his serve speed dropped, and legs get slower. It got harder for him to run around and hit big forehands consistently. I started forcing a lot more errors

    I thought it was smart going more for depth and topspin on your backhand near the end. He could crush short balls but was too inpatient with high and deep ones, drawing a lot of errors.

    Dude was a good player and you managed to extend the points well with him. I noticed that you tend to hit your returns kind of short and your opponent took advantage of it. Consider using a slice return on your backhand periodically to get some depth. Entertaining match 👍🏾

      Absolutely. Returning with more depth was key. He has a big serve so it wasn’t easy to get deep returns in.

    Really like your serve. Assuming you are a fellow Federer fan. So tempting, been using BLX Tour 90 6.1 since it's release. Need a little bit more give, maybe this will be perfect with the a bit smaller swing weight and higher head size/better sweet spot. Would rather sport the 97A V13 over this but price wise this it 60%.

    What's so amazing watching pros is not just how hard they hit the ball, but they do so with such accuracy and precision. Michelsen is lterally a shock absorber. No matter how hard Fils would crush, the ball kept coming back to him over and over again, and he was usually on the run trying to deal with the Michelsen responses. Fascinating clip!

      If you are getting a pain then both racqueta will not help both are stiff, better check the Wilson clash line but before jumping to another racquet try switching to Multifilament Or synthetic gut with tension in high 40s try 48 pounds
